Here the Warcraft Hunters Union benefits kick in with with some tips and tricks and how-to hunter guides for WoW. These hunter guides are fully updated for Cataclysm, level 85 and patch 4.3, and we continue to update these hunter guides as Cataclysm patches come out and hunter abilities get tweaked. Just another benefit for hunters who pay their dues.

WHU WoW Hunter Guides Notes
All of the WoW hunter guides for the WHU have been theorycrafted and, where possible, extensively tested in-game or in the PTRs to be as useful as possible to the largest number of hunters. We put in a lot of time on our hunter guides, a ridiculous amount of hours in front of the target dummy and on spreadsheets, and we also talk with some of the top theorycrafters in the community; and then we spend a lot more time rechecking everything after every patch, or investigating new theories or comments on new ways of doing things.
But, as always, there’s a but.
WoW is a very customizable game, and what is the right answer for the majority of hunters might not be the best way for you to optimize. Optimization changes not just by hunter spec, but also based on literally every piece of your gear, different bosses, different trash, and even your play style. The WoW hunter guides we present are generally going to be good advice for every hunter, and generally be the best advice for the majority of hunters — but it’s impossible for any guide or BiS list to always be the absolute best DPS option for you.
That said, even if you’re in the category where our gem suggestion or stat weight isn’t the absolute ideal option, our suggestions will be good, and the amount worse than the best will be incredibly tiny. But as always, if you want the absolute best to the fraction of a DPS, you need to be doing your own theorycrafting, and your own FemaleDwarf/Simulationcraft testing, and your own in-game testing.
If there are additional guides that you would like to see, feel free to let us know. We’ve had some requests for hardware guides (though I’m not sure what we’d say other than we love Razer mice and that in soviet russia, keyboard binds you!) but if there are enough hunters interested we could consider doing a runndown of the top computer peripherals we like, including what to kook for in keyboard, mouse, and headset options.
The one kind of guide that we have stopped doing is hunter tips for boss guides: there just isn’t enough interest to justify the work. When we did these (and we though they were pretty good too) they were the least popular things we posted. The great generic boss guides out there seem to satisfy the needs in this category.

Heh. Pet Tanking Heroics guides “coming soon.” I like the optimism. I’ll try to live up to the promise. My most recent article can probably be included here though, as it deals with tanking with the Cata changes, just not at 85.
Hi all this is my first ever post and is probably totally the wrong thing to ask , but here goes as the name suggests i love Bears have been playing now for nearly a year and love it , will never be the best gamer however i have used a black lioness to get me through dungeons etc , but would still like to use my bears can you help and what is the best talent build for a bear in cataclysm regards Exbear P.s I do have a couple of other characters but will always be a Hunter.
Hi Frost. I’ve been using the site for a while now and it’s exceptionally helpful and has put me on the top of the dps charts in any dungeon that I do now. While I’m at the top of dps charts though, I also am always at the bottom of any PvP orientated thing. I know your very busy providing the best hunter tips on the internet, but if you could make a PvP guide, many other hunters and I would greatly appreciate it.

Anyways, great info. I’m not sure if I missed something, but do you have a section dedicated to Cata Hunter PVP? For example, Bloodthirsty Gladiator’s Chain Leggings (red & blue slots): I know agi reds in blue slots, but if I get the slot bonus, it’s an additional 20 res; what does a hunter do?

I think if you’re 5% hit with your pvp gear you want to go for spell penetration (stormy ocean sapphire) gems for blues.
I`d like to say that spellflash is a great addon, for those who cant get their rotation right. I ´ve used it a long time and i really recommend it, /over and out.

Only one request…maybe a page of simple list of things different between LK and CATA.. IE…NO MO ARROWS… TY again
I’m still hoping to see a guide (that I can redirect new Hunters in my guild to). I’m spending way too much time helping new hunters with macros and rotations. Not to mention what pet is best for what level, where to level, strategies, etc.
For instance, IMHO, a spider is the best low level pet. It does as much damage as the others do, plus it has a web, to hold a mob still, and off you. Meanwhile, you can burn the mob down. That’s the closest thing to a tanking pet you will get at lower levels, as the tenacity pets dont get Stomp until level 44(?) I think.

I saw Frost that you were saying that you were having difficulty on golemag in MC? I use your guides exclusively and I have found for MC that spirit beasts work wonders in there! I send all my guildies here to see the best information on hunters on the web, ty always for your guides and information!
Heh, that was in Naxx gear, before runescrolls and other goodies came in. By the end of Wrath it was pretty easy — now in Cataclysm it’s a cakewalk :)
Is there a macro that will shoot multiple traps at once? In BWL i found i needed two or three traps to help with maggot and ooze control/death and it would make it much easier if i could do it with 1 button rather than 6.
That should say BWD, not BWL and i know it won’t shoot them all at once without the GCD in between, just want a single button to launch multiple traps.
And also, thanks for all the hard work. I check the site daily for news and updates and have sent multiple guildies as well as random hunters here for general info and to ensure the term “huntard” is never again uttered.

Just wanted to say this is a phenomenal site, I had visited prior to Cata, but now that I have just now recently switched back to my hunter post 4.0 this site has answered a majority of my questions. I have been playing a different class towards the end of Wrath, but inevitably I still care more about dps= bad tank. Are there any hunter specific add-ons you guys could recommend for endgame use in Cata, I noticed many of hunters prefer the hud’s does this play a larger impact with focus?
hunterfocusbar is very good for tracking your focus amount. i have it just under the cast bar. simple threat bar is very good too i have that just under the cast bar too.
Frost wanted to give ya a big thumbs up and a thank you for your time and effort you put into the union. As the gm of my guild and a epic hunter i get questioned by guildies and other players in the realm on how to do whatever to their hunter, without the union and every ones input I would probably would be lost and would not be the hunter i am today.Thx again and keep on keepin on!!!

great information, but i do have a question. For survival, which would you choose? Crit rating or mastery ratings..that i’m pondering about.
Love the site, I’ve been reading it for a long time and now I have a question. I’ve been raiding with my guild and so far have had no luck getting the staff from Halfus, but I have gotten my hands on 2 of the 1 handed swords dropped by Valiona/Theralion and I have no idea what enchant to use. Any suggestions?

I would just like to thank Frost for a great site , i know this may be a daft question but can i do Cata dungeon in BM with a Spirit Bear without letting the class down . I currently use a cat in SV as this seams good for me as i do sometimes struggle with rotations . P.s. thanks again for the site i have found your guides very helpful and i am sure make me a better Hunter. THNX
hi i was wondering if this rotation was good for raiding, i also want to state i followed this guide along with it: hunter’s mark, Rapid Fire, Arcane shot, Serpent sting, Chimera shot, Kill shot (if available of course), Aimed shot, Steady shot, then finally kill command
so what do you think? pretty good? i also want to state that i haven’t gotten nay raid guild yet..so what do you think?
also i would only use Arcane shot, and Serpent sting unless i was moving
