WHU Raids Thunder Bluff

The WHU baby hunter guild finally targeted a horde city with the last raid of Wrath. On orders from the king we went to Thunder Bluff to kill Cairne.

My big strategy for dealing with level 80 players defending was that our greatest weapon was our lag. So I told everyone to charge in with pets and vanity pets out, figuring that we’d pass most defenders before they could even attack.

This strategy proved faulty — or perhaps it worked too well. As soon as we got to the top of the lifts we crashed the world server under the weight of hundreds of hunters and pets, and killed all of Kalimdor. Fortunately the servers came back online a few frantic minutes later (all the while I was thinking “Oh god! Did I just destroy our last raid!?”) And we made it to Cairne.

Afterward we had our giant Goodbye Wrath party in Loch Modan. I decided that I’m going to cut the party together separately, so this video is just the Cairne raid. As a side note, I usually don’t cut the videos in high def because it’s monumentally more time consuming for me, but I figured I would for this one. The end result is YouTube is displaying black bars on the sides ’cause the dimensions were slightly different. Ah well.

I think that the shot around timestamp 1:05 is probably the single best WHU event shot ever, by the way. Also, we did indeed have to face a handful of horde players, but far fewer than were initially there. Apparently the server crash scared some of them away.

I hope to have the Wrath party cut together for tomorrow.

An extra special thanks are due to the WHU officers and Department of Transportation. WHU DOT worked overtime getting everyone summoned to the dwarven camp in Mulgore, and the core of officers were all gathered on vent coordinating how to handle raids, directions, summons, and distribution of fireworks hours before the event. These guys are the magic behind the scenes that make everything work.
