WHU Guild vs The Outlands

Posted: by Frostheim

On Saturday the WHU Hunter Guild traveled to the Outlands to wreak some havoc. We started off by slaying a Fel Reaver — it took about 15 seconds. I really expected that one to be more challenging. We then headed over to the Dark Portal and took down wave after wave of demons, culminating in the Pit Boss (we also killed a handful of 80 horde griefers here and there).

I was really excited to get to the Outlands — something Arust and I talked about after the very first WHU in-game event over a year ago. I was finally able to get the camera off ground level and experiment with aerial footage. One of the things I learned really quickly was that our massive numbers look much smaller from way up high.

I was really happy with the in-game event though. After a bunch of holiday shenanigans — which were fun, don’t get me wrong — but we finally got back to the old epic swarm of dwarven hunters killing tough things that hunters of our level have no business killing.

This was the penultimate WHU event of Wrath. We have just one more event planned before Cataclysm, and then the WHU in-game events will go on hiatus for several months while everyone gets to work on leveling and gearing their mains in Catalcysm.

Wow ! I missed this one (family issues) but it looks truly fantastic and right up there with the original lvl 1 raid. Congrats to all who were there and another thanks to Frost and Bella and ll those who organize and run these events.

I was able to get on yesterday and saw a bunch of “WHU ers” at level 50 already :)

  2. Taira says:

    It was epic!

  3. quivering says:

it has been a while since i have been able to join these. whats the level cap at now? next event?

  4. Joolsy says:

Bwaahahahaha – I love watching these WHU Events, never less than awesome.

Your camera work gets better all the time too Frost, you certainly have an eye for it.

  5. The Cheerleader says:

    Very coool!! Well done Frost:D

Great job to everyone:D and Thank yous all around to the ones that helped get the WHUers around outland to get buckets, HH, hearthstones… the list goes on and on!! You guys rock hardcore:D Thank you Thank you thank you!!

  6. Alisaunder says:

Cap is 50. Next event is “soon”, and not the Blizzard soon. With only 5 weeks left in Wrath it feels very soon.

I love how intrepid we are. Not so baby hunters anymore charging in is the most fantastic thing I’ve ever seen. Did anyone look and see how many we had? Also a big thank you to WHUDOT for transporting dwarves all week right up to the last minute. Please please hunters, try to get in place before the last minute.

We have at least two healers in the 50 range who can group hunters into dungeon finder and our current guild mat needs include hearts of fire and essence of fire. Donate to senody if you find any. Essences drop frequently in ungoro volcano and Silithis NW corner especially during the Elemental Invasion. Don’t kill the boss as that ends the Invasion

    • Brumm says:

I checked the numbers every 10 minutes or so. The highest I saw was 218

  7. The Cheerleader says:

    Level cap is 50:D

  8. Eidelweiss says:

That was pretty freaking awesome. The little guy I made there is still lvl 4. Talk about not keeping up!

    You guys are amazing.

  9. Dianth says:

    I’m a STAR!

    *two thumbs up*

Awesome video Mr. Frostheim. It gave me goose bumps!

Plus, many many accolades of appreciation to all of those who work so hard to make all of this fun happen :)

  10. Kuanita says:

So I thought level cap was 40. Isn’t the dark portal only open to level 50?

    • Cinterclaus says:

People were summoned to Dalaran, I believe, and ported to Shattrath.

    • Flintlok says:

Kuanita, I walked a level 5 through the portal not three weeks ago. Went down the steps, and hopped a ride to Shatt. Nothing stopped me. (Dying several times going through the Swamp of Sorrows and the Blasted Lands slowed me down a lot, but didn’t stop me! :D )

  11. Polyxena says:

It’s so awesome being a part of that – spilling over the landscape and mowing down everything in our path like a massive Zerg invasion! :) Frost, you do a great job of filming it, the camera angles just make it look that much more epic! Everyone who has a part in organizing these things, it’s just amazing. If there was a cat herding achievement, you would have gotten it many times over. XD And thank you to all the members for listening and cooperating to the best of your ability. Where else can you find such a *large* group of people in game who will unite and do their best to follow orders? It’s just plain cool!

  12. Comadrona says:

I am so sad to have missed this one! It looked amazing!

I will definitely be at the next :-)

  13. Cinterclaus says:

What an epic! That was so awesome to watch, I only wish I could’ve been there for it! Seeing all those hunters and pets running along the paths was great! Looks like I missed a lot of fun :)

    • Cinterclaus says:

Oh, and watching everyone on the taxi’s was hilarious!

      • thornir says:

killing the lich king might do it. hehe :)

  14. Harthur says:

Was the most epic event I’ve been able to attend! Missed the level 1 raid and Pirate’s Day but have made the rest… Well Done Frostheim, Bella and all the WHU officers!!! I can’t think of anything off hand in Northrend that would compare to killing the Pit Commander 3 times =)

  15. Taggart says:

That was awesome, i wish we had something like this on my EU server, love my 80 dwarf hunter, but think im loving my 72 orc hunter even more :-D

  16. gzr says:

Thanks for a truly great event.
I was surprised at how quickly the Fel Demon went down but the battles at the gate were epic (any battle where I die twice is epic).

  17. Reshtarc says:

Level cap was changed to 50 after the event. Great job on the video, and the music selection(s) went very well with it. It was a blast being there, and we actually took down the Pit Commander at least three times, not just the once seen in the video.

  18. Flybeats says:

Wouldve been cool to do a collaborative killing of every son of Gruul, I know he has a lot.

  19. Mightymuffin says:

I really wish I could get on with this group and do this stuff. Always loved the hunter raid videos, but sadly my school schedule seems to make it so that attending events, even my normal raid schedule, are few and far between. I guess that is the consequence of choosing a science major and being pre-med…overworked and being in study sessions nearly every week.

My one question, and I tried looking on the youtube link, was about the music. What are the titles and artists for the music? I really enjoy the music you use and wish I could have the music anytime I want. If this is off-topic, then i’m sorry. I just am very curious. :D

    • Brumm says:

The 2 songs are Final Command and Dethroned. Both by X-Ray Dog.

They are listed at the end of the video but so close to the end it’s easy to miss.

      • Mightymuffin says:

I knew I should’ve waited for the very end. Thanks Brumm.

  20. lawman30 says:

This was my first WHU event and it was everything I hoped it would be and more!!!!! What was the best, though, was how quickly Frost and the crew decided on “Plan B” once the Fel Reaver got OWNED! The fight at the Dark Portal was, in every sense of the word, EPIC! I look forward to the next event!

THANK YOU FROST AND CREW FOR GREAT FUN!!!!!!!

  21. Flintlok says:

Of all the event’s to have to miss… sweet mary… I had already seen Halldrim’s video, but I didn’t know you guys took on the Pit Commander, too! Agh! I wish I could’ve been there!

Here’s to the few. Here’s to the true. Here’s to the WHU!

  22. Lupsur says:

Epic isn’t enough… True “bestial” movie.
Makes me proud i am a hunter. Cheers from Europe, Frostheim.

    • Bu says:

So true… Epic is not enough :O)
      They r the best ever

  23. Razorax says:

I really like to follow the progress on the WHU guild. But alas, I’m in Europe. And thus cannot join the Icecrown server.
Do you know of any plans to have a “sister-guild” on the EU version of the game?

  24. Bu says:

Aye, once again you did it :O)
    Great, simply great.
