This hunter combat rating and stat conversion guide is a simple reference for level 85 Cataclysm hunter stats, updated for patch 4.3. Convert that pesky hit rating and crit rating into hit and crit percentage. The following hunter conversions are only good for lvl 85. We also cover level 85 hunter pet scaling — how much your pet benefits from your stats.
We’re not going to bother with lower level conversions because, frankly, you should be busy leveling, not micro-managing your gear choices.
Hunter Stat Conversion at Level 85:
| Ratings 120.109 Hit Rating = 1% Hit 179.29 Crit Rating = 1% Crit 128.057 Haste Rating = 1% Haste 179.28 Mastery Rating = 1 MasteryAttack Power 14 AP (attack power) = 1 dps (auto-shot) Agility Global Cooldown Armor Penetration |
Hunter Stat Conversion to Pet
| Pets Gain:42.5% of hunter AP 70% of hunter armor 100% of hunter hit as both hit and expertise (so if you are hit capped, your pet is hit and exp capped) 100% of hunter haste 100% of hunter crit Ferocity Cunning Tenacity |

Thanks for keeping us up to date, Frost, I would have long lost track of all the changes long ago without the WHU
I might have missed this but: does anyone know what the new hit cap is going to be?
hit cap is 5.0 pvp and 8.0 pve. but i am wondering about spell pen in pvp, it is rarely mentioned, but 189 seems the number. confirm?
So with no hit talents, 1025 hit to cap then?
err 960.872. My eyes crossed and I looked at the wrong number.
Correct, the first tier raid hit cap will be 961 hit rating; however, remember that as we get to higher raid tiers we are supposed to need more hit (and crit).
oh are they actually increasing miss chances as raid tiers increase? that is awesome! i take it crit depression and dodge/parry/block for bosses with increase as well?
on a side note, i just got a beta key! woooooot!
Hi, I am wondering from the forums that I have read. I run BM and have noticed that you say the worst stat for BM is Mastery and I should reforge to crit, well would that not take damage from the pet ?
its looking like that we might actually benefit from haste quite a bit with not requiring so much for 1%. thanks for the official conversions frost
What about raid buffs like Windfury Totem, which do dot raise hunters’ combat rating?
So wait – all pets receive the same % AP? Didn’t the original announcement give different AP%s for each pet category?
Never mind – I just now read the article about GC’s post. Pretty neat.
Thanks, Frostheim, for continuing to bring us this info!
Do you mind posting the conversion for resilience? For both please
You forgot to mention that hunters get an addtional 4.2k bonus to awesome at level one, and put the “Inferiority Complex” debuff on all non hunters within 100 yards.
Hey Frost, can you confirm that the global cooldown can be reduced by haste or has been reduced to 1 second? If i stack haste at all, it feels like i’m not limited by the global cooldown. What experience have you done?
The global cooldown for hunters in cataclysm is 1 second. Haste does not reduce it.
Sorry if I’m wrong I thought that haste could affect all global cool downs until it hits 1sec not that all global cool downs are 1 sec. so the soft cap for hast is once you get your global cool down to 1 sec haste becomes less affective as a stat.
For hunters the *global* cooldown is 1 second. Some abilities have longer cooldowns, like Exposive Shot or Aimed Shot or Kill Command. The cooldowns of those abilities can be reduced by haste only to the GCD of 1 second.
Some abilities have no cooldown, like Arcane Shot — but you still have to wait for the GCD after using these abilities.
Haste would certainly be a little less effective after hitting the soft cap — reducing the cast time of steady/cobra shot to 1 second. However, as a practical consideration that is not possible anyway.
Question: Does Hunter’s Mark provide any benefit to the Pet’s attack power directly, or I’m assuming just the 42.5% of what it gives the hunter, or no benefit whatsoever to the pet?
Thanks so much for putting that into an easy-to-swallow guide.
How long did it take to check and confirm those numbers in hours of your time?
how much haste rating do we need for 1 additional focus per second?
Just over 24%, if the bast is still at 4.15/sec
Have the hunter pet scaling numbers been verified in game? I don’t have access to the beta but on the 4.0.1 PTR ferocity and cunning pets seem to get 68.25% stamina scaling and tennacity pets 73.5% stamina scaling.
Of course it’s been verified in game : ) Keep in mind that your pet has a base stamina, and then also the scaling from the hunter. That base stamina changes from level to level.
I sent you the spreadsheet with the data I used to determine the scaling values I came up with. I played with the math a few times but I keep coming up with the same answers. I’m guessing the scaling either changed in past week or so or perhaps the 4.0.3 beta and 4.0.1 scaling don’t match.
So what about at 80? If i reforge mastery, im hurting my pet by losing crit or haste?
Actually myself too as i also lose crit and haste to buff pet..
From the crit/hit conversion numbers the conclusion is that the best hunter race is now Worgen/Dwarf with gun and after that Draenei(taking into account reforging). This makes me sooo sad. No offence Frost, but female dwarfes look like shaved male dwarfes
and worgens may be confused with our pets.
I may be out of the loop. When I played, the AGI:RAP was 2:1 during Vanilla, and all of the the online resources state that AGI:RAP was changed back to 2:1 for Cataclysm, but after looking at the Armory and the info box when I highlight on my friend’s Agility it states that his AGI:RAP is 1:1. Can someone clarify this?
Melee AP is still 1:1. Ranged AP is 2:1 (the armory only shows the Melee AP, unfortunately).
Hunters get a base 8 mastery rating.
So i’ve been following your website since i started back on Cataclysm, followed your advices, and done so much here and there. Anyways, nowdays what does bother me is that i don’t really know at all which path i want to follow as MM hunter.
I’ve seeing posts of people doing over 20k with a lot less equipment as me. Actually im full epic Tier 1 geared except for head, neck and shoulders than come from ZA and using DragonHeart Piercer.
My question is… What i am doing wrong?
I’ve tested a couple rotations, altho i don’t see so many differences in the DPS.
1º rotation: AI-SrS-3xSS-CS-2xSS-AI (hardcast) and so on….
2º rotation: SrS-ASx2-CS-4xSS-ASx2-CS and so on…..
So what i am doing wrong? Do i need an specific amount of haste to increase my DPS? Do i need to trade off Mastery for Haste? What’s the best stat now?
Thanks in advance.

This is a link to my character just in case someone can help with this thank you!
Do pets inherit resistances? I’m thinking in terms of using tanking trinkets with defensive c/d’s, like Mirror of Broken Images.
Great post, Agility will always be king…
Hi…do hunters need attack power buffs f.e.k.s. mm hunter have a raid and party thing that ingreeses attack power will that effect the hunter himself with damage?and Bm hnters have a thing called “pet handler” it ingrecses your attack power by 25% but hunters need ranged attackpower right
Hi, do you need spell pen. also what is the cap for crit & hit in pvp
So if +1 Agi = ~.5 Crit, would it be better to go with a +40 Agi gem insted of a [+20 Agi +20 Crit] gem for the added attack power?
Yes — unless the 20 agil / 20 crit also gets you a socket bonus of another 10 agil, for example.
