Quick little note from Ghostcrawler on the beta forums:

We’re going to take the damage off of Silencing Shot. It’s supposed to be a situational utility ability, not something you macro into every shot.

Honestly, this makes a lot of sense and is the right thing to do. Any ability that is just automatically macro’d into all your shots should probably be re-examined. And since it’s off the gcd and doesn’t cost focus, there’s no need to provide additional incentive to use it.

I like that a lot, actually. I’ve always felt a bit guilty using Silencing Shot for DPS rather than the utility for which it was actually designed, so having it clearly as an interrupt/silence and not “free” DPS will make it’s usage more appropriate.

  2. MitchPordon says:

I am actually really glad to see this. I feel Silencing Shot is just another ability that makes Hunters the ebst class out there and it was being underated as a minor dps boost. I remember one time on Lord Jarraxius our interupter died at the start of the fight so me and the warrior tnak took turns interupting. If i would have had that macroed into my shots it might have been difficult to do.

  3. DarkDragoon says:

i agree, personally i like to be able to just save and use it to silence, adds more depth to our class much like rogues have to watch to kick spells. i also agree with frost’s idea with all things that you normally just macro, no point in having it if you never have to think to use it. that’s what passives are for :P

  4. Skarn says:

Another voice that agrees here. I love Silencing Shot, but as a silence, not free-macro-damage.

  5. Mightymuffin007 says:

I agree in part because I hated having to macro all my shots in order to get this shot into place. Plus, I always felt like if I ever really needed it, I couldn’t use it because my shots automatically fired it. With Kill Command also being macrod right now, and it sounding like that won’t be something necessary to use in Cata, I’m going to be glad to be done with macro’d shots.

  6. Duckaholic says:

Good change. Glad to see the community feels the same way.

  7. Schmevan says:

Glad to see this change, I was wondering when this was going to happen. Warriors don’t get extra damage from shield bash, dks don’t get extra damage from mind freeze. And I HATE being told to be an interrupter for a certain pull and having to not use my macros. Like frost said, no point in having an ability that you don’t have to think to use and seeing as wild quiver is getting super buffed from mastery I think few will even notice the change

  8. Omogon of Lethon says:

I use silencing shot for what it was intended. I think this is a good change

  9. Armin says:

If it triggers the MM mastery, I’d still possibly consider macro it in for the proc bonus or at least use it as much as possible. Especially since ammo cost is going away …

  10. D_Otunga, "The A-List" says:

Not a bad idea. I’ve always felt some pressure to un-macro it from my shots and use it for the intended use anyway… But MM is getting kind of boring and some of us may try other specs come Cata. Too bad Silencing Shot isn’t baseline.
