Today over at WoW.com, I go over in a lot of detail exactly what the MM PvE rotation looks like in Cataclysm. We’re far enough along in the beta that I think we have a pretty good feel now for what the rotation will be, barring any curve balls that may come our way.
As the Cataclysm beta continues, the different hunter specs are finally beginning to settle into place. There are still a lot of bugs, a lot of things not working or working oddly, and some talents that clearly need tweaking — and of course, focus regen is being tuned weekly at this point — but the overall PvE feel of each spec is becoming increasingly solid.
Today we’re going to start by looking at the MM spec in Cataclysm, which seems to be the most polished spec at the moment. We are not forgetting SV or BM, which we’ll hit up next week (though BM, as the most changed spec, is also the least finished, with big stuff not working right now). Join me after the cut for rotations, key abilities, how those talents really work and to bask in the awesomeness of the Cataclysm hunter… Read More.
Have you experimented with adding trap launcher with Explosive/Immolation Trap into the MM rotation at all? I originally thought this would add a bit of extra dps to MM and BM but have seen no mention of it anywhere.
I am fearful that I just won’t have the ability to keep all of the timing and focus stuff working …but we shall see. I expect that my dps may be abysmal for a while
No… no trap launcher. Not only does it use a global cooldown, but you have a bunch of other clicking that will likely add a touch more time, and the damage of the traps is pretty low — not worth the focus or the gcd.
Great info Frost. I’ve been looking forward to a more “challenging” play with the hunters. I think complex = skill>gear. Even more so than it is now.
I’d wager a bet that in Cataclysm live it will be possible to refresh the improved steady buff while it is still on. It may not be the plan today, but Blizzard will change its mind about it.
Just to be clear: the instant-cast Aimed Shot that you get with tegh ‘Fire!” bug, even though it is instant and costs no focus, still triggers GCD right? So it is not like e.g. silencing shot, right?
Yes, it triggers the gcd. Um, and it’s not a bug.
Seems the more I read, the less I’m liking the changes to hunters. I play WoW to have fun and forget about my workday, not as a second job I have to work at. Not saying hunters should be easy, but some of these changes (focus) are just a bit much in my opinion.
I’m still looking forward most to Camouflage…… Hiding near a flag in Alterac Valley or Arathi Basin…… Stealthed Cat pet…… ready to snipe and send the cat to shred mwaahahahaha >:-D
It looks like in Cat we will have to pay alot more attention to our buff bars then with free aimed shot, twin steady shot procs , Serpent sting etc is anyone using addons to manage theses ? I might get one now and start to get use to it cause at the moment the only time i look at my buff bar is normally at the beginning before the pull just to make sure everything is up and ready to go . PS thanks for the awesome sauce info Frost .
I’m sure we will be using addons to manage them. For the time being though, addons are turned off in beta, so we don’t have that option atm : )
from what i gather the steady shot is now hugely important
