Today over at WoW.com, I belatedly realized that I passed 50 Scattered Shots articles. So I thought it would be a good idea to run a series of polls to see where everyone stands. Please, if you can, hop over and take a minute to fill out the polls!
Here at Frostheim Industries Consolidated, we recently realized that some time ago we whizzed past the 50-article mark for Scattered Shots. Naturally, this revelation prompted a swift internal review by our quality assurance team, who are always eager for an excuse to hold meetings and enjoy a variety of jelly-filled pastries… Read More.

Sure thing Lord Frostheim! Your wish is my command.
I want to see more vids on hunter strategies on raids etc
Especially Lich King ^^
MOAR PET TANKING!
…hrm. I’d need to do more myself to warrant that, wouldn’t I? In that case, forget it. I’ve closed shop until Cat.
I’m also surprised “Uncommonly Good-looking” isn’t winning.
Difficult to choose one answer. If you poll again you could put each up twice to get two answers. I like your rambling but also learning how to use an ability in a way I hadn’t considered before. I do mostly 5 man heroics and an occasional pug vow on my hunter so that is what’s useful but what makes me dream and keep going is reading about extreme soloing and raiding. Any raiding. The raids I might conceivably get a pug for and the dizzying cutting edge stuff that to be honest I’ll probably never see outside of YouTube or the genersity of kingslayers. I like to know how to pvp better too but meat and potatoes has to be the five mans. And some Granpappy Frostheims tales to wash it all down with a big smile.
I like videos but the problem with those is they’re often taken at max distance and compressed down so that you end up with a bunch of ants with flashes of spells and unreadable dbm warnings popping up. Without subtitles Or audio I can’t make sense of what’s happening.
I think the hunter interviews are great on the podcast, peoples enthusiasm comes across more clearly than if they type back to you. An exception would be if you could sit in on their Vent during a world first and give usblow by blow, winor lose, as it unfolds, that could be pretty cool. The raiders wouldn’t have time being busy killing and running but maybe you could.
Poll completed. Hard to pick just one answer as I have been very pleased with the Scattered Shots articles. Keep up the great work!
Naturally, the most difficult poll question was the one concerning whether you, Frost, are uncommonly good-looking, uncommonly manly, uncannily witty or have strong beer-bearing wrists. Clearly a choice of “Gosh darn it, Frostheim is just so good-looking, witty, manly AND strong-wristed, I can’t choose just one!” was very needed here.
Hey Frost.
The usual – You’ve done wonders for my hunter, and when my guildies are starting to say that I’m almost ready to be a dps lead (shocked gasp) which is a hundred miles away from where I was this time last year, it’s clear that your articles are hitting their target here.
That being said – some ideas about what articles you may want to include/not include…
First up – as long as WHU blog continues to be whatever you want to post – there’s nothing worse than someone NOT posting the articles that interest him. Part of why your articles do attain such a following is that your enthusiasm and interest in the topics encourage the same in your readers. If your articles at WoW start to be things that you aren’t interested in, they will lose audience and become a chore. (I’m sure you know that – but it’s worth reiterating).
OK – more things I’d like to see:
I’ve been very interested in seeing the rotations on the dummys for Cata. Not so much from the Cata point of view, but in watching how a better than competent hunter does his rotation and thinks about it. I think there are some things that you do, that you take for granted that isn’t general knowledge for those of us who came up soloing, and were late to the whole dungeon/raid thing. I’d love to see some of this.
I’d also be interested in not-so-much what add-ons are ‘best’ but how much dps an add-on can give as added-value or not. That is, road testing some add-ons for dps value. Some people can’t use add-ons, so knowing how their lack of add-on will affect their dps will help them judge what they can and can’t expect from their hunter.
Also – part of what makes a good hunter is knowing their toolbox, and how to use some of their tools in unexpected ways. For example Jump-disengage, MD-ing to the pet, etc. Again this is stuff that you do and probably don’t think about anymore, but not necessarily to the rest of us. Every so often hearing a story about something like this would fire the imagination in the rest of us.
As always, I am your devoted follower. (I chose uncommonly good-looking, but agree with Caelinar)
I know were all disciple’s of frost but……….I am amazed too see I voted with the pack, It’s so unusual for me.
Hey Frostheim. My hunter is the first character I rolled and is my main. I started playing about a year ago and found WHU soon after hitting 80 (at which point my 10 man guild started taking me into raids and told me that big red kitty isn’t the way to go for raiding). So through WHU I learned how to play survival — everything from talents to rotation to gemming. I learned about stacking trinket procs with my damage cooldowns, I learned to jump shot and jump disengage. I soon become one of my guild’s top dps because I knew how to play my class. I acquired better gear and switched to marksman. I still tend to be top dps or near top dps (depending on fight mechanics) almost all of the time, and it’s not just because of my gear. I loved all your guides about how to play my class, starting with the basic rotations and moving on to advanced techniques and encounter-specific strategies. Personally those are my favorite, and I’m not so interested in Cataclysm (not until it’s very close to release, at least).
I just wanted to say thanks again, Frostheim. I have not found another site for hunters or any other class that’s as in-depth or comprehensive as WHU.
This site and over there does cover pretty much everything. I only said maybe PvP hunter interviews for more in-depth strats and a cunning pet talent build. Other than that, you’ve pretty much got it covered.
As Arthemystia said, it’s kind of shocking that uncommonly good-looking isn’t winning. What the heck with the strong beer-bearing wrists?
As my phone isn’t doing the poll properly(stupid smart phone or its a PEBKAC) I’ll put my answers here..
As I’m what my realm likes to call a “pvp hunter” I’d love to see more articles and interviews with succesful pvp hunters(ie Brang, Loincloth, Kripparrian)
This part is probably going to piss some people off, but I’ll get over it(oh wait, I already have). I can’t stand BM, reminds me too much of the cheesy 80′s movie Beastmaster. I know i won’t get my wish there, but it is an opinion poll(which by the way are like the 4th point of contact) .
As for what you are, I might play a night elf, but being that I like to kill hordies(my apologies to the nearly 90k I’ve killed in the year since I started pvping). I really don’t count as a typical sissy NE. I will say that you have helped countless hunters better themselves(myself included) and any hunter I see that needs the help I point here.
You are doing a great job, keep up the great work and to all the WHU community: Keep your mark up, ur pet happy and bodies in your wake.
i noticed a complete lack of questions regarding all things PvP with the exception of one question. while PvP scored relatively low in that particular poll, i think you should be doing some more PvP oriented articles. i have recently begun to roll through arenas with my boomkin partner and oh man oh man what an amazing class we have for PvP. now if only those lock/mage teams would disappear…
@bakes, there is a video series on youube by a hunter named jacktrapper which is a pretty good resource for hunter arena. I look at a lot of the videos for tips on how and more importantly how not to pvp as a hunter. There’s one in particular which shows a key turning, backpedalling hunter with a really good shammy healer that I watch a lot. He might suck at movement, but his positioning is really good and he’s got a couple tricks like jump disengaging and scatter trapping down pat. Always remember, no matter how stupid, bad or ignorant someone is, if you can learn one thing from them they served a purpose. I include myself in that group, I still have a lot to learn
MORE raids strategy…please prioritize them when the new 5 mans and raids come out. I know your group is big on prgression but come on I know you have taken down Halion but no strat yet.
You are a victim of your own success here. I was fine reading your blog through Naxx, Ulduar, and TotC. When I had them for most of ICC and then went into LK on generic strats – I went into to withdraw. They really pinpoint our role and clear up all the clutter of the more general strats.
Don’t cut us off again come Cata. We need the good stuff mannn!
I meant – Your group is NOT trying to push progression
You really need an edit button
