I'm generally morally opposed to sunset pictures, but every now and then I take one anyway, and then I feel dirty.
Back from camping and sure enough, there was another beta build while I was gone. Hopefully this one will fix all the stuff that wasn’t working from the last build. Alas it appears that it also requires me to uninstall the beta client and download an entirely new client. So this’ll take some time.
Expect at least a couple more posts today as I get stuff working and sift through the info about the patch out there. Once I get in I’ll do a quick recheck on focus and (fingers crossed) hope they’re leaving it up at the new boosted base regen rate.
Also, damn did I get a lot of bug bites. They never bother me until I get back to civilization and suddenly they’re popping up all over the place.

Those pictures have an almost ‘elvish’ beauty to them
hehe, to bad you couldn’t get your “past” self that’s been blogging for you to re-install the beta while you were camping. And you have my envy, i haven’t been backpacking in almost 4 years now. -Note- if you go in late fall/early winter, there aren’t many bugs.
an entirely unrelated question. I understand that the Gnomes have got off their littles arses and retaken Gnomer. …so what’s in Tinkertown in Cata ? and does the tram still work ?
Beautiful pics ! I wish I was there ^^
FYI, this beta build should have deleted all of your pets.
And those are some mighty fine pictures.
Yeah, I thought the e-mail might have been bogus about the “delete and reinstall” e-mail, but it came from blizzard.com so I guess it’s legit.
As far as the starscape pictures, what settings do you use? (iso, apeture & well shutterspeed too I guess =-)
Hey frost a friend of mine does a lot of night photography. Check out her site. http://sites.google.com/site/stephabegg/home/photography/nightphotography
Not quite WoW related. But even though you said you had some problems with the second shot, It still turned out quite awesome, which I always find fun when I’m snapping away and I realize that my aperture/shutterspeed/something wasn’t quite right then look at them and see it gave them some unexpected effect.
Omogon I flew over gnomeragon a few days ago. Outside it looks exactly the same with even more pipes blowing sickly green smoke all over the place. Icouldve sworn the Forsaken bombed the place. The leper gnomes weren’t there that I recall but were replaced by something else small and fleshy to shoot at. I’ll try to get a picture next time I m in the area.
@vaga
That website is right up Frost’s alley! All mathy ‘n’ stuff:
“The maximum shutter speed you can use without the stars appearing to streak across the photo can be approximated by dividing 600 by the effective focal length of your lens. For an effective focal length of 20mm, this gives an exposure time of 30 seconds. (Some math: if you assume that 5 pixels – or 0.1% – of movement on a 5D’s 12.8 mp sensor (equivalent to 4 pixels of movement on a 30D’s 8.2 mp sensor) is the maximum without streaking and recall that the earth makes one full rotation in 86400 sec, shutter speed = [(180/pi)*(5 pixels x (35 mm / 4368 pixels)) / f] / (360 degrees / 86400 sec))”
My brain hurts…
@crapbag My goal is to get full streaks, so at ISO 100 I go for f11-f14 with about a 2 hour exposure.
I’m no photographer, but if you have a problem with bugs then you need to get yourself a thermacell.

I do a lot of hunting (hence the name and my favorite class) and down here in the NC swamps we call bug spray marinade. I think the bugs actually like it more with us wearing it then without. The thermacell is the ONLY thing that keeps them off of us in the blind. Glad you had fun on your outdoor adventures; now back to beta!
Oh, and thanks btw for posting as much as you do about the beta, it’s really fantastic. Now you can’t say it’s a thankless job.
