Over at WoW.com, a deeper look at the state of focus regeneration and the MM rotation right now in beta, as well as some of the most recent blue posts on the subjects.
The Cataclysm beta is in full swing and with hunters looking like the most changed class in Cataclysm, the new hunter info is coming fast and furious. We are continuously pelted with more and more information, not just from the beta but of what’s going to be coming next and changing next but isn’t yet implemented.
It’s hard to keep track. Just when you think they’re going to zig, they zag, and when you think they’re going to zag, they do zag, just to throw you off for the next zig. And the rumor mill is going at five times the speed of the actual information, filled with the typical predictions of doom and horror and dozens of reports from people in the beta, all conflicting…. Why not have all three venoms works the same way? Three stacks and extra stacks or refreshed by Cobra/Steady Shot. Having Scorpid Venom stack and being the only one possible to refresh just seems odd and feels wrong. If you’re going to make three Venoms, have them behave the same.
Edit: For PvP I’m going to assume they’d make them all physical debuffs so they can’t be dispelled.
Viper Venom and Widow Venom are not going to be allowed on raid bosses anyway (I strong dare to predict). So that leaves them …. eh useless or extremely situational for PvE just like viper sting and scorpid sting are now.
For PvP arena I see some uses, but I’d have to see how it works out. Probably not if they don’t reduce the focus cost, perhaps if it gets to lower. And noiros has a good point, that if it is dispellable you’d probably thing 3 times before spending/wasting you’re already scare (as running all the time) focus on it. I wouldn’t put my money on it being not dispellable …
But perhaps Blizzard surprises me in a positive way.
Oh, Frost, I know you got tons to try out, but what I missed sofar in pretty much all reviews on all sites were glyphs. I’m shocked by the 12 sec sting. Is that with or without glyph (if there is still one). Any target switcing and it is gone, and if you don’t get the CS bonus, I wonder if it is worth the focus cost. Or perhaps we should go into the SV tree and pick that bonus up …
So much brain overload
Does not sound to good for the hunter class now. It looks like they are making us more PVP oriented and less PVE(I dont PVP). All the venom’s and new skills are basically only PVP useful. I will never use any of these while leveling, and they are useless in raids. Might be useful in 5 mans. They would be fun to use if we were’nt on such a limited resource system.
Here’s hoping this new energy system does not cripple us.
I just recently picked up wow again after a 4 year break (going nuts in Iraq and needed something to occupy my down time). I have been having a great time, and all I’ve been able to do is a couple of pugs on the raids. I am extremely disappointed for what the changes are going to bring as far as I understand them. In my mind our burst damage is going to get crushed on. It looks like we’re going to be an auto attack ranged class. I mean 8 seconds inbetween the cheapest shots if you’re not using steady to regain focus is horrible. PVE it doesn’t seem that big of a deal but in PVP I never use steady shot. I think its going to hurt and I am doubtful that I’m going to continue to play if the game play is going to be as I see it currently, seeing as I have no desire to be any other class but a hunter.
Great post though Frost, Thanks for keeping us informed.
how can we refresh the venoms in pvp? since we hardly use any steady / cobra shots.
and i think they will be confusing, because we need to have 2 venoms in most conditions.
especially in arenas, if you MM and against u is a war / healer combo, what to use? widow or scorpid? and with the new chimera shot proccing the venoms it would be even more confusing
