Over on WoW.com today, I have a guided tour through the Cataclysm beta process, as well as some detours through my brain.

Today we’re going to go on a journey, not of distance and miles, but a journey of the mind. Today I shall take you with me on a stream of consciousness trip through the Cataclysm beta. You will vicariously experience the first moments of the beta and leveling through Mount Hyjal.

This, dear friends, is even better than a beta invite itself. Partially, yes, because you will get to skip over the grueling slogging through bugged quests, the endless searching for new pets to tame, the constant World Server Down messages — all this, you’ll experience in just a handful of words rather than living the hours of pain. Seriously though, as you’re reading, just imagine getting booted out every hour or so (sometimes a dozen times in an hour) and seeing World Server Down when you try to log back in… Read More.

Can I just say that not only are you one of the most refreshingly scientific people in all of WOW, you are easily the most entertaining blogger I have encountered in all of the internets. I thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that none of the “other” classes have their own Frostheim, you are ours to keep!

    @BumRuckus
I actually find myself thinking the opposite, I wish to god I had a frostheim for my durid and one for my resto shaman…

  3. Frost = good Frost trying to be BRK = bad says:

I like your writing and I like BRK. What I don’t like is Frost trying to be BRK. You have developed a style that really works for you stick with that. Please no more BRK like videos and posts. The fake GC interview I took more as you paying homage to BRK and I defended it. This continuing attempt to immitate BRK doesn’t work though.

  4. Frostheim says:

Hmm, all I can say is the goal was a big Ulysses reference, not a BRK reference. I must have missed the BRK posts that are stream of consciousness ones — the closest I’m familiar with is his big lists, and this was very different from one of his lists of things.

The GC interview was also written without any knowledge that BRK had done it years ago (and radically different in every way but concept) :)

Overall I have to say that just because someone else has done a concept or a written something in a certain way is *not* going to prevent me from doing it. I’m going to write what I’m going to write, regardless of what other people are doing.

Frost, I enjoy your posts. I’ve made regular visits to your website and podcast. Curious though… how long did it take you to go from 80 to 81. I realize Blizzard is still tweaking mob HP, quests, etc. but what appears to be the rough timeline?

“Frost = good Frost trying to be BRK = bad”
Any reason why to mention BRK actually?

I really enjoyed the article and all I know about BRK (besides that he was apparently a popular blogger in the past for some reason) is from one of his pet preview where he stylized into drunken lumberjack or something, and kept shouting loudly, till I turned off the sound off.

    NIce and actually informative article!

I don’t think frost is trying to be BRK I think they both have very similar writing styles in which they write with a lot of personal tidbits thrown in as well as very eccentric personalities, listen to them both in Episode 41 of the Hunter Party Podcasts both frostheim and BRK tend to dominate the podcast.

In my opinion we all respect what BRK has done without a doubt he is one of if not the greatest hunter to play WoW (even blizzard has paid there dues to BRK).

BUT I do think that BRK is as a #1 WoW blogger is done, he is still very respected and his site gets lots of hits but I think Frostheim is the “new BRK” not in a since that he is copying BRK but in the sense that he is at the level of blogging/writing that BRK was once at.

@ Frost – rereading with Ulysess in my mind I can see that in a way…abstract but creative. I think most people will think BRK though. If wanted to waste time and kill large quanities of brain cells I would look at the wow.com comments section it is probably flowing over with tween rage and trolls. Don’t know if you were talking to me or in general with the last section but for what it is worth I am for you putting a Frost twist on an exsting idea. I was referring more what makes up the “fist” or signature of both of your styles.

@ Nekomancer – No need to put people someone down. Any descent blogger deserves respect for his work and BRK, whether you like him or not, is a legend – Men are respectable only as they respect. In their time they both have contrubuted greatly to the community. I happen to enjoy both Frost’s and BRK’s sense of humor. My first reaction to Frost post was it seemed like Eddie Murphy doing Mitch Hedburg jokes which just wouldn’t feel right.

  9. Skarn says:

    Random question, Frost.

When you put up Scorpid Venom, do Steady Shots from another hunter refresh it?

  10. Lirithiel says:

I much preferred Frost’s style of writing paragraphs as apposed to BRK’s bullet points. Similar perhaps but entertaining nonetheless. It made me feel your frustrations in some way. Missed the Blackadder reference but was still funny as hell. Keep em coming Frost!
