Euripides was out last weekend, so this Hunting Party Podcast is just Darkbrew and I rambling a bit about the WHU raid recap, some Ghostcrawler quotes about melee in Cataclysm, and of course tons of live chat Q&A and listener email.
As always, here is the iTunes store link, the Hunting Party Podcast feed, and the direct XML feed. If you email us comments or questions, we’ll read them on the next show. Send an email to [email protected] Also, we love iTunes reviews. So please drop by iTunes and mention what you thought of the show.

No scattered shots today?
Is the host server down? Can’t seem to connect or download the podcast
Is anyone else having trouble listening to this? Ep34 I can listen to but 35-37 don’t work and their download links are http format rather than a sound file.

“I made you a podcast, but I eated it.” lol

Says Badia doesn’t exist… might wanna look into that.
Note: Explosive Shot is not technically a DoT, so it’s entirely possible it won’t be affected by haste.
Regarding the continued discussion over Pistols and the use of ranged abilities in melee range.
The range mechanic is a valid trade-off for having instants.
I for one would _not_ prefer the 1.5s cast time alternative for all shots to compensate.
I for one would not like the ability to have my shots interrupted mid ‘aim’ (a.k.a. cast).
A point that is being forgotten, or ignored completely in these discussions, is the fact that there are no other classes with as many instants in their rotation/priority list other than melee classes. The hunter mechanic is identical of the melee combat mechanic (Range requirement, physical autoattacks backed by instants, tools to close distances and keep people in range), with the range requirement inverted and the tools to keep distance and keep people out of melee range.
Thus the argument for using guns and shots in melee, could be made for the inverse classes.
Why can’t a Warrior Heroic Strike people at 40 yards for half damage?
Maybe we could give Rogues chain swords (a la Ivy of SC fame) so they could keep using their ‘strikes’ out of melee range?
The class is not broken.
There is no class flaw.
It is not lazy coding or design.
In the immortal words of trolls everywhere. L2P.
I like the idea of determining spec based on the fight. In other words if you are in a raid struggling on Putricide, that fight, and the gear you are likely to have at that point should be enough to establish the most beneficial spec (even to the point of individual talents). Yes there would be some people out of order, but it might still be useful to them.
Anyone willing to take that on?
@grae I disagree with many of your points. While the average hunter does have 2 instant shots, that still represents maybe 1/3 of our rotation…. and in *addition* to that we have maybe another 25% or so or our dps from auto-shots, which also don’t work while moving.
There are ranged classes that are worse than us on the move, and ranged classes that are better than us on the move. So we’re not getting a big “dpsing on the move” advantage over the other ranged classes (and, by the way, melee have it much better, since their auto-attacks work on the move — which is a huge portion of rogues dps, for example).
I disagree that having lower dps in melee range — and having to use an entire different set of abilities to do that dps — is a compensation for greater strengths at range. Because we know from data that we are not stronger than other ranged classes at ranged.
