Over at WoW.com today, while we bask in the glory of the WHU BBQ all day today!
Arthas of Menethil, the Lich King, the ultimate boss of Wrath, is now within your sights. I don’t care that Ruby Sanctum is coming out; the Lich King is it. He’s been haunting you ever since you stepped foot in Northrend, popping up here and there to check on your progress, being amused by you, threatening you, chasing you down long hallways. Now after clawing your way up Icecrown Citadel, you finally stand before the Frozen Throne and Arthas himself. It all comes down to this.
It’s going to be a bad day for one of you… Read More

it is also extremely helpful to use Frost Traps on the valks.
we have two hunters in our raid group and i always drop mine in what we plan their flight path to be.
and our other hunter drops one directly on arthas just before they land.
this way they all start out slowed before anyone even attacks them and the first trap leaves another big pile of molasses for them to slog through.
it’s a great way to ensure that some slowing effects will happen, no matter who’s being carried through the air.
the only issue this has ever caused is if they trigger the trap after defile occurs, it visually covers up the defile.
but with good raid awareness it is rarely a problem.
i also use a hyena on this fight for his Tendon Rip slow effect on the valks.
and since i’m BM, Intimidation works nicely on them as well.
Frost Traps and Snake Traps work on the Vile Spirits as well, but it’s pretty hard to make sure they hit them, we just spread our traps around and try our best to kite the spirits through them.
Be very careful with frost traps on the valkyr — most groups don’t allow them, because the frost trap graphic actual conceals the defile graphic.
Can anybody confirm if the distracting shot also works to interrupt the Spirit Warden in the final phase? I do the Lichking fight in our 10-men group as SV to bring replenishment to the raid.
Best regards

PS: Awesome blog and uncommonly good-looking blogger
some people tell me the valkyries have diminishing returns on slows. so if u have 3 hunters dropping 3 frost traps that’s pretty much it for slows. any verifications on that?
With luck we’ll get Putricide down this week……Arthus is still a long way off for us
Great article though and, when we get to him…I’ll be looking at it again

Thanks for all the help over the past year, been very useful to me.
Questions on the valk disengage trick: I have tried this on two occassions, on the first time I did it, I was able to spin around and disengage backwards, I barely missed the platform. The second time I did this, I spun around, but I disengaged the opposite way.
1. When the Valk picks you up, are you always exactly facing back to the platform?
2. Are there any special tricks or macros that enable you to spin the opposite way instantaneously?
Are there any other special tricks that enable you to do this better? The slowfall and levitate trick should be awesome to try, but I was wondering if something like a swiiftness potion has any affect either. I’m not an engineer so I dont have the parachute thing.
Just got my Kingslayer last night!
A couple observations from our runs. These all apply to 10 man.
The Val’kyr do have standard diminishing returns so ideally you won’t have everyone blow their slows on it right away. We have it get stunned right away then I’ll concussive shot it just as the stun is about to wear off and if it isn’t dead by then a second stun will hit it.
I didn’t have any luck disengaging back to the platform with a levitate but it was very close. I could see with better timing that it might work. I only got dropped once though since they (and Necrotic Plague) seem to never want to target me.
The Frostmourne room really isn’t a big deal on 10. I’ve been in it 3 times. Once was before I removed my silencing shot macros I didn’t get an interrupt off but still managed to kill the spirit before he finished the channel. The second time I had silencing shot all ready to go but killed the spirit before he even cast the spell. Third time the channel started and I interrupted it just for the sake of it. My damage is higher MM but without the armor debuffs on the spirit I was hitting for noticeably less than normal so I don’t think I’d be too worried about not having the interrupt if I were playing SV.

I’m assigned to orb duty, so I spend most of my time in the transition phases shooting down the frozen orbs. What I usually do during this time is to use it for mana regen by going viper. Even under viper, I can kill the orbs pretty efficiently, and this allows me to enter Phase 2 and Phase 3 with a full mana bar.
I never knew there was a need to interupt the spirit in the Frostmourne room, all the times I’ve ended up in there, I’ve quickly burst down the spirit before the King died. One time, the King’s hp got reaaaaally low. Probably the spirit managed to cast the spell.
One thing I would love to see is a Lich King fight from a hutners view….
No need to explain as they do in Tankspot, but so we hunters that may have problem on LK can see how some of you hunters do it!
