Marksman 101 article up over at WoW.com.
The MM spec comes with the most versatile toolbox, the most controllable DPS cooldowns, two optimal raid specs, and the strongest AOE of the hunter specs. However, MM is also one of the trickiest hunter specs, relying more than other specs on proper use of cooldowns and good movement management… Read More.

On a couple of the glyph explanations, you mentioned BM instead of MM.
Yikes — I thought I had caught all of those. Dangers of cut and paste, I tell ya. Thanks for the heads up.
Great writeup, can’t wait for the armor pen addition. I feel I have a good general understanding of it, but you always have a way that makes me see things a little bit clearer.
I would really like it if somebody could clarify the relationship between casting Steady Shot and Auto-Shot.
Does the Steady Shot cast interrupt the rhythm of you Auto-Shot, if so, is this to be avoided?
Do you need to work your Steady Shot around your Auto-Shot, if so, in what way is best achieved?
Also – During a heavy movement phase of a fight do you ignore Steady Shot or do I stop to cast when it is safe to do so?
Thanks

Steady Shot does not interrupt auto shot — your auto shot will fire off when it’s supposed to as long as you aren’t moving, even in the middle of a steady shot cast. Auto shot clipping was something that happened in BC and no longer happens.
During movement phases of course you want to cast every shot that you can when it’s safe to do so. Do NOT stand in a void zone to fire steady shot, but also don’t move and lose shots if you don’t have to.
hmmm.. i cannot post on the article:( maybe some latency issues. if only i knew of a way to get a better convo with my computer and wow.com:P But i will try later:D great article btw:D very easy to follow:D
Thank you very much Frosty.
I have been looking for an answer to that question for weeks. All of the sources I found that pertained to this – Auto-Shot interruption – were out dated and I could not tell if it was still relevant.
I hope this has helped other Hunters who were looking for the same answer.
Thank you again.

Good post dude!
Im gonna recpec my little troll tonight.
So my question is this:
If you are in a fight were heroism is not used at the start and instead is used 2 mins in lets say. Will you get a bigger boost from waiting on heroism then popping rapid/readiness (meaning you would most likely only get 2 rapid) or should you still pop it at the beginning and get 4 total.
Thanks
Thanks for the article, Frost.
I’m a survival hunter, reluctant to hop onto the MM bandwagon until my gear gets to the magical ArP number. it’s good to know I’ll have some kind of guidance when that happens.
Great work Frost
I’ve been MM for a long time and there’s nothing “new” here for me personally. But it’s still great to read and know you are on the right path.
I’m just about to drop Arcane shot. I had been spec’d the “noob” way until now as I like the extra instant shot in my standard rotation. But this weekend I am dropping KS Glyph and moving over to SS glyph and lose Arcane Shot(along with talents change). However I only have 396 ArPen BUT the DPS is the same for me but time to OOM is +40seconds…so at the very least it’s a mana gain.
IHM Build Questions:
When does it make sense? We run 3-4 hunters (including myself) in 25 man, and I’ve been specced IHM since Ulduar/ToC. I was glyphed for it as well, but recently swapped that glyph for the Steady glyph, with the fix to Marked for Death (Steady/Serpent/KS as major glyphs). With that many hunters, it would make sense, since you are, in effect, giving each hunter ~650 additional AP (500+(500*.3)) on top of their already high AP from their gear. The personal DPS difference is fairly minimal (~500 dps, maybe) but I guess I’m looking for a secondary opinion on whether or not its worth it, with our particular raid comp.
HM Glyph – Is it better/worse than Steady? I’m of a mind to set my secondary spec identical to my primary, and just change the glyphs, and see what happens, but not 100% sure if that will really show anything.
I have been having trouble getting 4 rapid fires in. Usually I only get 2. Do I hit readiness/rapid fire as soon as my first R F is up?
Hi! What about MM 102, the armor pen thing? Eager to read it! Should have been posted weeks ago…
Thanx for your help!
I have a question about the hunters mark.. I have specd 3/3 for hunters mark now;if some 1 else uses there hunters mark and they are not specd into it.. do i have to put my on again or do i get the effect of 3/3 hunters mark regardless of who has it up?????
