What’s that?

UPDATE: We have indeed seen a small BM dps boost. I’m running out to get some data to speculate on it now.

An interesting blue post today:

Death knights, druids, hunters, mages, rogues, warlocks, warriors, oh my! For those participating in our public testing of the upcoming minor content patch 3.3.3, look out this week for a host of fascinating new adjustments to these classes. Chains of Ice innately does what? Nature’s Grasp has how many charges? Vitalit…y boosts stamina by how much? Stay tuned to find out the answer to these and more questions!

Merciless teasing, I tell ya.

So far the only thing that hunters have seen on the PTR is a range buff to our single most redudant raid buff — Ferocious Inspiration. The FI buff is also provided by arcane mages and ret pallies — except those classes provide it while also in their top dps spec, whereas we have to be in our worst…. and worst by far.

So nothing on the PTR has really been a relevant change for hunters. But now… we have hints that they’ll be doing something to our class. And I’m sure at the front of every list is some kind of BM PVE dps buff.

We know a buff like that won’t be in the form of increased pet damage, and Ghostcrawler suggested that it could be something that ramps up over time (to prevent a PVP buff to BM). Perhaps some kind of new shot like Black Arrow? Perhaps FI includes an effect with a stacking buff to arcane shot every time it’s fired on the same target?

I don’t mean to get your hopes up. We don’t know that we’re going to see a BM dps boost. We don’t even have the slightest hint of it, other than they’ll be doing something to hunters. But frankly, BM seems the most logical target for a change.

Sounds like fun! 8D Whatever it is I’m sure it’ll be fun. Hopefully they mean good adjustments and not… nerfs. D:

    :(
    “…and worst by far”.
Did you have to do that, Frost? Anyone who’s read any of your articles about Beast Mastery lately understands your position there. Possibly it’s time to stop rubbing the salt in… we get it. Honest.

Blizz breaks out the nerf bat….(instead of buffing BM, they will just nerf MM and Surv and call it a day)

Don’t know if you’ve been on the PTR lately, but apparently hunters have a base aura of 1% Ferocious Inspiration… with any pet, and any spec. Heard about it from the Wow.com comments, then went to check it out, on my retail-copied hunter. My MM-specced hunter with a wolf pet had an 1% Ferocious inspiration aura, which was weird as hell. I’m assuming this is a bug?

I’m not trying to rub anything in for BM hunters — just reporting the facts as they stand. Heck, I’m even saying they should be buffed. I’m there for my BM buddies, I’m just not delusional about where they currently stand.

Update: looks like we are seeing a small BM dps boost. Gathering some data now, new post soon.

That sounds interesting about the small BM dps increase but if it’s anything like their ‘buff’ for Frost Mage’s it will be hardly noticeable.

3.3.3 is a nerf to PvP Hunters running BM; we’re losing 9% damage on Arcane Shot fully pointed into Ferocious Inspiration. That’s a lot of damage I’m losing on my primary instant-cast shot.

I’m just saying you could have made your point just as well if you had left it simply at “worst”. I’m not delusional about where BM stands either. I added a second MM spec recently, and I could see the difference right off the bat. I’m not arguing anything, it just felt like adding the “worst by far” part was an unnecessary little dig on the spec. It got under my skin a little bit. Sorry.
