Today’s WoW.com post is going to be one that a lot of you will be very interested in, if my email is any judge. Today I compare all of the top hunter trinkets and rank them by spec.
Trinkets fill a very special slot in our gear selection. Rather than just a collection of stats, trinkets are the one gear slot we can pretty much count on doing something special, be it crazy procs or on-use abilities. Of course because they aren’t just piles of stats, trying to compare one trinket to another can sometimes be difficult. Worse yet, they are some of the most difficult slots to fill, and we don’t want to waste our time (or DKP) with a subpar trinket… Read More.

Also a reminder that this is the penultimate article of the hunter bet. Today and Thursday are the last two articles before the bet is over — and we’re sliding behind, losing to the druids! So hop over, tell your friends to hop over, and leave a comment!

That’s right guys! Prove that the masses here are not lazy huntards and can support their community.
Hrist the motivational speaker….-ade.
I think the one time I actually ‘won’ Deaths Verdict, I forgot I had already won something from that lockout the day before (the 245 chestpiece) and was all “oh my bad, but…aww….”
I’m not sure I get the emoticon. Is that supposed to mean you are unimpressed? I sure hope that guy in Grizzly Hills will give me another knife so I can cut myself now!
Here’s hoping the trend of 11 comments an hour goes up when people get out of work/school/prison/wherever.
Three comments:
1) Needle-Encrusted Scorpion has the same 45 second internal cooldown as Mjolnir!? It is prety much accepted that it is a 50 sec cooldown. Don’t get me wrong, please show me the logs if you have data that proves me wrong, as I gladly be corrected here. But I’ve seen tons of test showing that the minimum time between procs is 50 secs. This makes the proc even worse. If it wasn’t for the 110 crit I’d not even try to get this puppy.
2) I’d place greatness above NES. The spreadsheet also comforms that, but also the fact the proc is indeed like clockwork. Unless you are of course a MM going the ArP way of course.
3) If you include Mark of Supremacy – that is if you need hit – you should also include Pyrite Infuser. Higher AP, but of course a proc, not a manual spawn. But very easy to get. A 20 sec MoS however is often partially wasted making the difference with a higher twice a 2 minute 10 sec proc perhaps beter than a longer manual 20 sec once a 2 min.
(I have both in the bank however as I don’t need the hit …)
I still don’t get it… My NES seems to proc constantly. As often or even moreso than my ashen band procs. It is very often that I have my 2t10, ashen band and my NES all procced at the same time (such sweet sweet numbers)
I’ve decided to start collecting my combat parses so maybe I will see that I am wrong. I did replace a Titan Forged Rune with NES, though, so it was a solid upgrade either way for me. Now I just have to hope and pray and rely on the gods of RNG to provide a DBW and WFS and I can finally replace the trusty old DMC:G I’ve used for ohhh so long.
BTW: Dilemma.
Right now I’m sporting head/shoulders T10 and gloves/legs T9 245. I have the t10 gloves, but I’m not switching them with my t9, because i don’t want to break the set bonus which is awesome, and i won’t be getting the 4set, and it’s not *that* much of an upgrade. Am I following the proper course? Because I’m trying to get a trophy from ToC 25 so i can exchange my 245 non-tier piece for a 245 t9 chestpiece, so I can keep the t9 set bonus, while still getting that bit of an upgrade from the gloves. is it worth waiting? or should i not bother getting the 245 chestpiece and wait til i get a 4th piece of t10, because i’m not sure how much of an upgrade the 245 t9 piece is from my 245 non-set piece.

Hrist – didn’t mean to imply I was unimpressed. Your comment made me smile, and I honestly just typed in some random smilie-looking characters, not even knowing it would turn into an actual emoticon.
Loved the post Frost on the Trinkets I personally think this is one of the harder ones to figure out due to the fact of so many different procs, stats , hit etc thanks for your excellent work .
Love the article, and of course you always strive for the best of the best, but is there somewhere or someone who puts together best in slot lists for people who can only do 5 mans or 10 mans?
while i have gotten into 1 or 2 25 mans, i am mostly held to doing 5-10 mans and a lot of the items you suggested are from 25 mans so i will never get them. it makes me wonder what would be best in slot then for someone who isnt able to be all they can be?
well i mean not just trinkets but on all items, still i can strive for whispering fang and mjolnir and the emblems ones.
silent best in slots are hard to do , the main reason being is most specs require different gear and depending on your play style the items will change but the basics go BM – Attack power , SV + MM go for agility until you can get about 900 armour pen rating however you movement must be good for armour pen builds. If your MM or SV i would try to keep my 2 piece tier 9 legs and gloves for the serpent sting crits especially if you sting multi tagets then work on frost emblems for head and shoulders coz the tier 10/ 2 peice rocks then go for a non tier chest as the tier only has 2 gem sockets compare 3 on the rest infact if your doing icc the sack quest my drop a nice chest peice.
I’m like the post on trinkets, but you’ve left out one that is better than the Mark of Supremacy, one that I still hold onto and use while rebuilding my armor set, Blood of the Old God. It has 20 less hit points, but 200 more attack power. It also is a proc, not a use trinket, and from my experience with it almost always proced with my Death’s Verdict/Choice trinket. Like The Mark trinket though, only equip it when you need all the hit. Just adding that, don’t know if you had a reason to leave it out though Frost.
Hey Quadilious , yeah I checked it out, seem to me very simular to the pyrite infuser trinket but i notice your trinket Blood of the old god only has only a 10 sec operating time compared to 20 secs with the mark of supremacy which i would say is the main difference its 10 secs of 1284 Attack power or 20 secs of 1056 attack power so it looks like the 20 second is the winner thats why i traded my pyrite infuser in.
Hey cheers for the post on the trinkets this is something i been thinking about myself for some weeks, i got lucky the other night after 11 weeks of going to toc 25 Deaths choice finaly dropped and most guildies where kind enough to pass for me knowing that i been in TOC every week for that trinket i also got Greatness with this trinket and tbh when i am in MM spec i am lucky to have every thing proc with in first 4-5 sec of fight so greatness and deaths choice stacking with First piece T10 bonus and culling my serpent sting is awsome and just a nice refresh from Chimera shot works a treat. I will say though i have lost the roll to Deathbringers Will 4 times now hopefully this week it will be mine as this is clear hunter loot so keep of DK`s you know who you are.
One tip about Greatness. It also triggers on healing… so if you tap Mend Pet prior to the tank pulling, there is a good change that it will pop just prior to your opening shots or almost certainly within a few shots. This is extremely handy for opening Misdirections as it means you can go longer without needing to Feign Death to drop aggro.
I am of SV spec.
I actually tested my Greatness Card against following trinkets:
Whispering Fanged Skull
Herkuml War Token
Needle-Encrusted Scorpion
Test method is as how Frostheim recommended in WHU, ie pop all CDs and use shot cycles recommended here until mana runs out.
Repeat the test for 3 times on same trinket.
My test result showed that Greatness card gives me better dps than all 3 trinkets above.
I was a bit surprise seeing it ranked lower than those 3 in the trinket ranking.
