Apparently Blizzard was concerned that the already kickass Falinrush, Defender of Quel’thalas wasn’t good enough, so they’re replacing the haste on the weapon with armor pen, making this ranged weapon even better and more desirable.

It’s still not a gun though, so really, I think we’ll call that a half-hearted attempt at improvement.

Some of the weapons from the Lich King are not as good as we had hoped. To encourage you to want these new weapons, we have decided to change some of the old combat ratings over to better ones. We have obtained a preview of these changes, for your perusal, on behalf of the Beijing development team.

25-Man

10-Man

  • Stormfury, Black Blade of the Betrayer: Armor Penetration replaced with Expertise
  • In addition, for those of you not already aware — the limited attempts have been removed from all normal mode ICC bosses. You are now free to spend all evening wiping over and over again until you get it right :)

I’m a litttle surprised that they did this so soon, but I’m very happy about it :)

The thing is, even removing them the difficulty of normal mode being as high(even in 10 man, pugs aren’t really clearing too much more than the first four wings) I’m perfectly content with them removing attempts; the encounters will still be tough, and honestly, people aren’t going to get too much further without the limited attempts, It will only serve to benefit the lower skilled/ geared guild runs (how many pugs will sit through wipe after wipe on putricide?) And they’re leaving the limited attempts on heroic mode. I’ve never been a fan of the limited attempts anyway, Its adding a level of stress without making the encounter any more challenging, I kind of think it’s a cop out on Blizzard’s part; a way of serving top guilds who can learn quickly and not use all their attempts to stay ahead in content, instead of actually making encounters *really* challenging.

That said, I’m very excited about the prospect of some of the hard modes of some of the more difficult encounters, hopefully it will be more ‘skill checks’ and less ‘does your tank have enough health/do your healers have enough mana/do your dps do big enough number?’ checks.

eep, typo, “pugs aren’t clearing much more than the first four *bosses* not wings >.<

While Falinrush isn’t a gun, you can comfort yourself with the reminder that you are uncommonly good looking. =p

Richard, you CAN just copy and paste. Don’t make Frost do everything for you.

    6. Omogon says:

So I guess that Frostheim will be using a crossbow?? Can I have ur gun ;)

    7. Hulksnipe says:

To be honest I am glad it is neither a gun or a bow. I think having the best endgame range weapon be equally good for all races of hunters was a good call on Blizzards part. But then again this is all coming from a big green orc :P

    8. Catrie says:

Omogon, he’s said that he will never use a crossbow or bow, only guns.

On my NE hunter, I’ve only used bows and crossbows. I have the gun skill, but it’s level 1. =p I just can’t make myself use a gun.

    9. Snoggi says:

Blizzard could’ve easily made two ranged weapon drops, both a bow and a gun, with equal stats. I mean, what’s the use of racials skills if in the end, you’re not allowed to make use of them ‘due to balance reasons’. It’s not like the oher races don’t have other abilities to compensate right?

    10. Ganuke says:

      Frost with a bow!?
      No way!

Agree with Snoggi. Why not make an equal stats gun drop?

    11. Hatchetman says:

@Polarity: While I am glad to see the limited tries go away on normal mode, I disagree that on heroic mode the are a cop out. Blizz I suppose could have ramped up the difficulty factor instead, but then you would have been left with a set of dungeons that the mid-range guilds would have found impossible. The fact is that there is a large gulf between the casual and hard core players, which Blizz is trying to bridge. The effectiveness remains to be seen.
Having raided with guilds through out the spectrum from casual to top 5 on the server, it looks to me like there are still a lot of people that will be coming back at level 85 for their first crack at the Lich King.

    12. Hatchetman says:

Oh, and I agree with Snoggi as well… Gief Gun!
