Wyrmfoe headed into ICC for the second time last weekend. Well, first we went to Patchwerk to measure everyone’s single target dps, which we’ll be doing again next week. Understanding people’s maximum output is necessary in understanding their performace on other boss fights, and it’s useful for estimating if we can beat various dps check bosses. We’ll be doing patchwerk again next week with the rest of the applicants. It’s legitimately hard to keep that fight long enough to be a valid test (we have several dps just sitting on their thumbs, and it’s still crazy short).
Oh, and Hrist was hateful strike taking on Patchwerk. He took 11k damage the whole fight. I wonder if we went all out on dps if we could do that without a healer….
So anyhow we did patch and we did the new VoA boss — who is pleasantly easy by the way, and gave me some pvp pants. Then we hopped into ICC and one-shot our way through all of Lower Spire, including a one-shot on our very first Saurfang 25 attempt, which was really nice to see!
Alas we were short on time and so only had time to clear the plagueworks trash before calling it. Not sure if we’ll we’ll be hitting Festergut this weekend or not, but I’m really looking forward to it!
It’s just continually nice to see a team of raiders who can follow directions and work together. Even though many have never done the fights (and a huge number who had never done Saurfang) and many are still undergeared, by just doing what the fight requires we still get the bosses down.

Saurfang meter. I was a kiter and was #2 for blood beast damage done... damn arcane mages. I hate them.

If you think that your guild is burning through Mr. Patch to quickly in Naxx. then why dont you do 2 instances of Naxx. 25 and split the group your doing ICC 25 with in half and do it that way. Hopefully 12 or 13 of you guys won’t do Patch to fast to get a good reading on DPS and such?
@Spang: that is very good point. Seing the DPS from melee on Saurfang – which is basically Patchwerk with a bit more armor (?) for them – they would kill him somewhere around 3.5 minutes which gives a bit more sense than 70 seconds to kill him with 22 DPS, 2 tanks an 1 healer

impressive dps, not just for you, but for all in the raid. In your skill vs gear article you mention the huge impact of raid buffs – I’m curious to see if you took some of the same people and did the same boss on 10 man what the matching dps would be with a 10 man raid buff set as opposed to a 25 man raid buff

My life currently allows me very little raiding opportunity. The only thing I managed this week end was getting invited by a lvl 74 guildie to a Black Temple PUG. It was a fiasco 
11 80s and 14 others between 70 and 78. I switched to BM at the start and still topped recount. zero coordination zero plan several wipes ….much bitching abouts NOOBS and “fail xxxx” and not enough dps. Hearthed , paid repair bills and did dailies

I found Koralon to also offer an excellent dps check with a bit longer time on the clock. I got lucky this week and never found myself stuck in a cinder so I button mashed as fast as I could. I figure even with a small amount of movement to dodge a flame here or there he is a great single target test.

We were missing a couple of raid buffs on this run (most notably no 4% physical damage ’cause no combat rogue). I don’t have a screenshot of any of the patchwerk runs. We wouldn’t split into two raids, because we want people to be able to measure their dps with as close to max raid buffs as possible (make it as fair a measurement as we can).

i love this site and their guild is run . I’d love to get into their raids and kick it with these fellas. however there are a few things standing in my way 1. i am a hunter and 2. i am a ret paladin. 3. I am on Darkspear.

Ha! Beating out melee who are on Saurfang full-time is always a treat. I end up on Kinetic Ball duty on the Council, though, and it’s rarely a one-shot. So my overall meter never ends up being as impressive. I doubt it would be anyway (Frost’s numbers are always a bit out of reach for me), but I would at least be closer. I always enjoy the meters though…gives me something to “shoot” for (pun intended).
But a one-shot on 25M is indeed impressive for Saurfang. It’s not an easy encounter. Sounds like Wyrmfoe is progressing nicely.
I like the Patchwerk test idea. What do ya reckon would be an acceptable DPS number would be? I suspect the best way to go about it would be to split the 25 man raid in half.

Congrats Frost we had a noob weekend in my guild where 3 people of our 10 man just could not get the idea of staying out of the fire on the 1st boss in ICC after about 8 wipes we decided to move on its frustrating when other people cause the raid to wipe. The core 7 players made it all the way to the enrage timer as the 3 mainly dieing were dps which left us short to kill the boss in time. Glad your new team is working out so well and so quickly.

That was a very fun night. I must say I have been having a lot of good times in Wyrmfoe. Glad to feel like I am contributing as well.
Remind me not to stand anywhere near Lady D during the phase transition though. I tend to be highest on the threat list for melee people, which means that she wants to slap me as soon as the barrier drops, and she slaps hard. Makes me feel like a total noob. That fight seems to bring out the bad in me for some reason.
Funny you should mention Lady D aggro. I was listening Hunting party podcast 19 and pet tanking an ICC boss. If you left your pet with growl on all through phase 1 it would be able to tank the first phase of phase 2. It should be able to build up a massive lead on threat. The backend of phase 2 could be hairy though.
Wonder if he could build up enough threat to tank all of phase 2?
