So the wow armory now has the Lich King loot in it. Basically all he’s dropping is weapons and the Mark of Sanctification.
And he does drop a ranged weapon… a crossbow. Fal’inrush, Defender of Quel’thalas.
Words cannot express my sorrow. My best ranged weapon until cataclysm will be a 10-man gun. It’s just… life is just so bleak. I was going to tell you about the wow.com bet today, but I don’t have the heart to be excited about anything. I’ll talk about that tomorrow. Today is a day for mourning.

The 10 and 25-man versions of the Xbow look crap imho. Why oh why Blizz must feel the need to make everything look the same but give it slightly different skins and think its ok. No originality if you ask me. As a bow tottering Blood Elf I can’t say I’m happy about the fact that the Lich King drops a Xbow altho I’ll probably never see that encounter anyways. Having said that, I haven’t got my hands on either of the ICC bows yet – I’m still stuck with ToC 25 Death’s Head Xbow altho I have the hc version of Widebarrel Flintlock and the Ony 25 gun in my bank coz why? Elves don’t use guns ^^ But Frost in some way I feel your pain…

Frost, you should have seen it coming as an act of balance. Guns would have given edge to dwarves (i know it is perfectly fine with you
), bows would give edge to trolls so they decided for x-bows. And there is one more reason: there was no x-bow so far dropping in ICC
I understand where you’re probably coming from not liking bows. I’d be upset too if I had stubby, beer-laden fingers that easily slipped off the string or such a short arm span that I couldn’t pull far enough back to cause real damage. But give the cross bow a chance. It’s got a trigger and you can make your own pew pew noises (over vent) if it’s too quiet for you.
Take it from your elven brethren, (x)bows aren’t tha bad.

There is a 255dps gun, the down side is you need 1800 arena rating, there is also another one available for a 2200 rating in 3v3 or 5v5 teams with 288 (I think feel free to correct me on this)
I know it’s not PvE content but I know I’m looking at getting this since I’m not a big fan of proc shot on Zods, but until then….
I don’t understand how you can make a blog about how to become the best hunter and not use the best weapons in the game(if you should get them).. It just doesnt make sense to me.

I raided in a guild that fielded 2 other Hunters aside from myself, and they were both gun-otin’ dwarves. I got right sick of hearing stereo gunfire in my freakin’ ears for hours on end.
That said, I’m a Draenei Hunter. I much prefer crossbows anyways. =)
No freckin gun! Plus Hunters have gotten the shaft having the only real melee weps in (in 10 andd 25!!) on Lich King. Meaning we don’t get a chance at a decent stat stick until we down LK in some fashion. I guess when we do get a chance the weps are better, but cmon. My guild has yet to see a Zod’s (cleared every week), no Heroic Talonstrikes, no Archon glaives, like 2 crappy Lupine Longstaffs (And they suck). Heroic Justicebringers we’re getting DE’d and still no ranged wep better than 245.

I’m a Dwarf and I use Zod’s. I was really hoping for a gun also. I miss raids where it sounds like east LA with all the gunshots going off. Instead it sounds like some hippy retreat where we love the boss to death.
The racial is huge. Wish we could take advantage of it. Maybe race change?

@ Code: the thing is, each player has the right to choose whatever weapon/pet he/she wants to even if it means sacrificing dps. Take Pike for example – she knows that by playing as BM and running with anything but a wolf that she will not be pumping out max dps but she does it anyway because she enjoys it and takes pride in making her character unique to her. As I pointed out earlier, I just can’t bare to use guns because it doesn’t feel right to me even if the weapon is better than what I currently have. So Frost being rather saddened about the gun scenario is perfectly understandable.
I miss the thunder fire and power of my guns now. I believe engineers should be able to learn a profitable skill in RANGED WEAPON CONVERSION! I believe this makes perfect sense in game and would give engineers a potentially repeatable moneymaking skill. Repeatable as in much like enchants players will wish to convert their upgrade weapons to match their preference.

I believe you mentioned during one the Hunting Party Podcasts with regards to hunters who elect to raid with the BM spec that they are gimping their own DPS based on irrational emotional reasons. And it is unacceptable and deserves to be ridiculed, namely by you.
Well, isn’t it ironic that you have just found yourself in the exact same position for the entirety of the ICC content? The best ranged weapons in any tier of progression will always be either a bow or a crossbow. If you continue to make the choice of using a gun and passing on bows/crossbows, how are you different than BM hunters who choose to play a spec that they most identify with and just find to “fit” their play style? Just wondering…..

Oh, for the chance… I guess since I will probably not see the fall of the Lich King personally until Jael and I can solo him at the final level cap, I don’t have much to say on the matter. I think that the only time Frost should even consider taking the weapon is when another hunter beats him using that crossbow. If he can still be a better hunter than everyone without degrading himself to use a bow, than there is no reason to have it. Until then, unless you can put up better numbers (while still paying your dues) then you have no reason to talk down to Frost.

More realistic scenario is Frostheim letting Zod being DE´ed (for the fourth time in a row :p )

Frost, I totally feel your pain here. All I can say is the Lich King doesn’t have a daughter, for if he did then he’d surely have a shotgun somewhere in his citadel. Too bad he and Jaina didn’t have more time together.
I am so sick of crossbows. I know that crossbows are race-neutral and so make the most balanced BIS ranged weapons, but lord, I can’t escape the things.
I won’t be too upset if I don’t get the crossbow from 25 Arthas, I love my Zod’s far too much and as a Troll it’s wonderful to have. The 25 Arthas crossbow is a nice upgrade but, eh, can’t get excited about it.
One disadvantage this weapon has is that the firing sound is harder to pick out from the raid noise, and that means I’m going to have to keep running a swing timer so I don’t miss autoshots while running
I use an add-on called Silencer – makes guns sound like they are silenced! So, I don’t have to listen to the BANG! BANG! for 2 hours straight. I’m glad I got the bow from 10 man ICC…to me, guns aren’t really a D&D type of weapon(along with siege engines, motorcycles, and helicopters).

What I meant was any tier in ICC content (normal or hard mode), the bows/xbows will always out DPS the guns.
So now the question is…
Will Frostheim, bastion of all rational thought, be a stubborn dwarf, stick with his Gun and do less DPS, or will he suck it up, pay his dues, and go with the Crossbow?

Personally, as an engineer, I’d like to see a better engineer gun than the current top.. the Nesingwary 4000. But I can’t see that happening.

Yeah it total sucks Blizzard show realease equals of both types at the same time, i dont get to do many 25 mans so the chances for a gun for me is even less than most , Personally i think its stupid releasing a crossbow Eck already drops one in POS , then lady deathwisper with her bow were is our Dwarven Boomsticks i tell you they need to think about the loot alot more. On a off chance maybe there working on our dual weilding pistols and forgot about the rifles for now one can only hope.
Just have a couple of dwarfen stouts blur out your vision, make some new folders in your wow directory and put in the necessary sound files to make your crossbow sound just like your favorite gun and start pretending that the crossbow is a mighty hard hitting gun. Deep down you will probably be aware of the missing gun smoke and the lack of gun powder smell, but it might work anyway if you just want it badly enough.

I sympathise you Frost… I am a huge fan of Boomsticks and they are the sole reason for picking my beloved dwarf toon. This and my bear mate hunting together for endless nights. But time passed and i got another great pet, my (Den Mother) wolf. But always a greedy stubborn dwarf and always gun-equipped. i used to pass on any weapon other than 2H axes and guns. Alas, now i feel degraded with Zod’s and a lousy polearm…
