Hunter strats for the Plagueworks bosses are now up over at WoW.com.
It is well known that hideous undead monstrosities concocted by the deranged minions of the Lich King make for excellent target practice. Having rained death throughout the ICC Lower Spire and gathered up all of our rightful hunter loot, our next stop on the way to the Lich King is the Plagueworks. We are given more trash to shower us with Ashen Verdict rep, including the much sought-after Precious’s Ribbon (clearly hunter loot) before stepping into the chamber of the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous undead of yore… Read More.

I think your putricide tips are rather incomplete. It’s very helpful (especially on 25 man) to be in range of the green ooze and shoot it as soon as it spawns. If it targets you, you can let it get most of the way there, and then use FD to cause it to just run around for 10 sec before it chooses a new target.
Also, putting your pet on the green ooze is very important, as it counts as a target to split the explosion damage (this isn’t a big deal in 10s, but very helpful on 25s).
I would like to submit a point for discussion about Putricide. We found that in the transition from p2 to p3 to be very aware of how close he is to 35% and plan the push to p3 before he gets off another ooze. Sometimes you have to stop dps NOW to kill an ooze, and our dots pushed us into the transition before the ooze was down. It’s not a raid wipe, but it does make things very difficult, especially if it’s the gaseous cloud. We try to stop dots before the transition just in case this happens so we can enter p3 clean and on our terms.
I totally agree that you want to control the transition, but that felt like more of an overall strategy to me rather than a hunter-specific tip. But yes, you definitely want to control when you go into p3
Regarding Rotface, and assuming you have a BM off-spec, would it be worth it to use that spec for kiting rather than MM or Survival, and leave the pet on the boss? I’m just thinking about using big red to remove movement-impairing effects when forced to run through the floods and while maintaining a larger DoT (the pet) on the boss.
Even as pure DPS, I’m still working on managing my movement in this fight; I feel like I’m strafing a lot between Slime Spray and Ooze Explosion.
Fun Putricide tip: Disc priests can cast Rapture on the off-tank Abomination.

…and the Abom will gain 16 energy when the shield breaks. Excellent, excellent way to help out your off tank if you happen to have a Disc. Priest.
Boz: no, you definitely do not want to be BM for kiting. BM has the worse instant shot selection there is. I never had difficulty the ooze slowing me — disengage is a short enough cooldown that I’d just jump-disengage whenever I needed a bit more space.
With A Grain of Salt:
Frost…6k dps….. You have either completely mastered the scoot & shoot to such an extent that you can kite while running through movement impairing ooze AND pull that 6k dps while holding agro on a crazy AoE’ing one-shotting Ooze of doom….or I should just watch the fraps vid
.. I rarely question your great info but that my good sir, I have to see to beleive.
Not to overtake the importance of my last post:
I can see where your raging need to tank everything possible could force you to scream ” LET ME KITE THE OOZE RHIST!!”. Although this must be a great change of pace for a hunter, the fact is a kiter that can dispel is ideal for this fight…also one that can eat a shot from the ooze just incase something goes wrong. Further down the gear road I could see this maybe being a fun way to do this but as of now, best leave it to those it was intended for. I rather push content than the envelope at the moment.
Tlord: you gotta keep in mind that any time there is no big ooze, I’m popping cooldowns and going all out on Rotface. While kiting I’m getting a good quantity of my auto shots off. The movement impairing isn’t a big deal since you can disengage through about half of it, and I have my nitro boosts when needed too
Kiting turned out to be a bit over a 1k overall dps loss for me in 10-man.
Also, kiting the big ooze is just not hard. Never gettting hit is not hard. It moves *really* slowly. If your OT can has a high dps offspec, this method is better for your raid team. It’s not like pet tanking for fun and shenanigans, this is about a *better* way to do it. Also has the advantage that the hunter can more easily pick up loose oozes (a big problem for tanks). Now if your ooze tank has shitty dps in offspec, then you’re better off leaving him on the ooze, since the net rotface dps will be better with you on rotface full time.
Finish ‘er off:
Now you make me want to do it… damn charisma and logic. The issue of dispels I can see a call out in vent handling it ..although still better with someone that is standing right there and can pinpoint the time of the dispel. Second, I was under the impression that small ooze were un-tauntable??
“It’s not like pet tanking for fun and shenanigans”

hi frost, what do u think of just hugging the left wall for putricide in phases 1& 2? so you hav plenty of time to kill green slimes but the brown slimes just get kited out. i hav done that method on my tank in 10 man and some hunters reckon it gives them mor dps time because there is less movement needed.
Only From Personal Expirience:
Last night my 10m went back to ICC after our 25m didn’t go according to plan. The way we downed Prof P was similar to dd’s post ^^^^ but I’ll go into a touch more detail. Tank started his pull from under the Orange tank and pulled back about 10yards.. Everyone pops CD’s and this got Prof P to phase 2 with only 1 green spawning, entering P2, everyone should b aroudn the door you enter into the room. after a while an Orange ooze spawns and the targeted person runs toward the green tank, giving more time to down the ooze…now back to standing near the orange tank, rinse repeat til pushed into P3 where we hold position by Orange tank anbd begin to slowly kite along the wall..(ONLY HALF THE OOZE IS SPEADING SINCE THE OTHER HALF IS GOING “INTO” THE WALL) kite all the way around and then to the center if needed… if Prof P is not dead by now.. you are. “Soft enrage timer”. Hope a little insight to how Prof P was dealt with rather easily once this strategy was executed properly.
I think I’m in love with you. More articles like this please.
Shouldn’t this post be cataloged under boss strats? I had some problem finding it even if I remembered seeing it. Thx for the post anyway
It might be useful to share the macro I am using at Professor to quickly target and announce Volatile Ooze and Gas Cloud.
This macro is no IWIN button, you will still have to watch the Volatile Ooze/Gas Cloud spawn, but it can make targetting somewhat easier which should lead to faster dps on these targets.
/target Volatile Ooze
/target Gas Cloud
/attack
/petattack
/cast Dash
/cast Hunter’s Mark
/yell %t up, nuke!!!
/rw %t up, nuke!!!
This macro targets either Volatile Ooze or Gas Cloud depending which one is spawned, puts a Hunter’s Mark on the target, sends pet rushing to the target with Dash to attack, starts autoattack and announces the target in a yell emote and raidwarning.
The reason I send my pet to the target is not just the extra damage but more so for it to soak up part of the damage of the explosion from the Volatile Oooze since this damage is split amongst all targets in range.
The passive Avoidance talent every pet has (excluding DK pets) reduces aoe damage by 90% so pets are excellent for this.
It’s probably not a good idea if every hunter in your raid uses the announce in the macro
You can leave out the last 3 lines so the macro won’t put up Hunter’s Mark and do the announce in chat in which case you likely want to alter the /attack command to /cast Serpent Sting or some other shot.
