New one over at WoW.com about commonly misunderstood hunter abilities. Most of this you guys already know — cover Aimed Shot, Noxious Stings, and Chimera Shot. But, since I am still getting emails and comments on these, I have to assume many people have not read through the guides.

Join me after the cut as we take a look at the three abilities most commonly misunderstood by hunters and explain how they really work. Not a week goes by that I don’t get at least one email or comment about every one of these abilities… Read More

I always wondered about Aimed Shot! A great entry.

  2. Melenaus says:

I posted this comment in response to people saying noone ever notices when they Misdirect, now that only the hunter knows who he’s misdirecting to (if at all):

EASY SOLUTION FOR NOT GETTING YELLED AT WHEN MD-ING THREAT AND THEN GOING BALLS TO THE WALL:

    Download the addon: ThatJustHappened

On some forum about it, there’s a premade ‘rule’ for MDing – It will automatically put in party/raid chat who you’re misdirecting to EVERY time you actually cast the spell. (spam your MD as much as you want – the addon is like powerauras in that it will only show up when the spell is actually cast/the buff actually received)

If someone QQs about your lack of MDs, or your supposed overeagerness on killing mobs, remind them about your special hunter skill and tell them to read the chat logs, and gtfo of the way of your non-religiously-denominated holy hunter fury.

Here it is, just copy and paste it into your chat after you’ve activated the addon (/tjh on)

    /tjh rule SPELL_CAST_SUCCESS;;;Misdirection;self;AUTO;Misdirecting to *target!

The comments from that “potatoboy” about how there is some sort of malicious subtext in your article are comedy-gold.

Woot, Melenaus, I think you just allowed me to totally annoy everyone I ever raid with on my shaman…. I have been searching for an addin that sounds like ThatJust Happened is… every time I proc earthliving on a target I want to whisper them “yo dawg,, I heard you like heals to I put a heal on your heal so you can heal while you heal” :D yay!

…. er… hunter forum…. yay! info is good. I shall read up and see if there is anything I have missed :)

  5. Omogon says:

ya …”potatoboy” has some issues…..but you would be surprised about how many players know NOTHING about game lore.

  6. Silvertoe says:

Reading about Aimed Shot got me to thinking… would the 50% healing reduction work on something like Saurfang? If we pop Aimed Shot right before we know someone with the Mark is going to die, will he only heal for 2.5% instead of 5%?

  7. Melenaus says:

Silver, I personally wouldn’t worry about getting it off “right before we know someone with the mark is going to die.” Chances are that Aimed Shot is already in your rotation as MM, so it should be constantly up on the boss, IMHO

And Valacia, I definitely wouldn’t be annoyed by that! I love shamans in my raids :)

I mean come on, heroism, getting my mana back… I always stay near an ele or resto shaman if there is one so I can get the benefit of their riptide if they decide to drop it.

I visit and post on 5 different hunter sites and this is all you see constantly. People are just too bloody lazy to read guides let alone search for them. The classic line of ‘ i haz searched every where but could not find such and such heres armory halp plz’. Yet the guides with said answers are directly above their post.
These people want the hand held individual answer and shown what to do.
It will never stop, but such is the player base we’re stuck with.

  9. Odi says:

This comment may belong on the more recent post, but oh well:
In my personal experiences, the people who need/want to be hand held through their rotation, spec, gear choices, gem, enchants, etc, are the ones who will keep coming back with more questions when they get a new item or any change has occurred in any patch. I made the mistake of spoon feedin’ a new 80 hunter with rotation and gear choices, and every day, nearly, I’d get a whisper, “should I replace (this) with (this)?” I even tried explaining to her stat priorities, didn’t matter. . .useless, and I’d end up bashin’ my head into the keyboard, sometimes, literally. Thank the Lord I finally transferred servers. My point is, hand holdin’ people is simply going to be enabling them to continue to look for people to hold their hand. They neither have nor want the understanding, they simply want the results. I have, long ago, stopped trying to help most hunters, most don’t want the help that I’m trying to offer anyway. I’m a teacher, I try to teach them . . . they just want the answers to the test so they can get the A.

While that post was pretty much old news to me, and I was rather baffled why people would be under the impression keeping Aimed Shot fired off every 10 seconds would be a permanent +400 damage buff [I mean seriously? If it was something that major rather than the subtleties of where Chim-Serp takes its reference from, Blizz would tooltip it. Anywho...], the details of serpent sting AP scaling behind held after every refresh to the hunter’s AP when it was cast, that was news to me. Useful to know.
