Blizzard had another developer twitter that gave us a wee bit of hunter new. Nothing big here, and most of it can be summed up with “Good things in Cataclysm.”
Q. Can you please explain why Feign Death is still on the Spell Hit metric, especially in raids?
A. It’s a known issue, but just has to do with the way the spell is set up. Melee and ranged attacks mean a very specific thing to the game engine. We’re hoping to be able to clean up some of this with the Cataclysm overhaul.Q. You mentioned pet scaling being added for patch 3.3 but due to time constraints, was delayed. Will this be in the next patch?
A. We’ll try to do what we can. Technically it’s just more challenging than you might think. For Cataclysm, we have on our list that 100% of stats scale. If they don’t then certain stats just won’t be as valuable for pet classes. At the very least, we can do stuff like convert your X into damage for the pet so every stat is valuable. Getting everyone to scale with every stat better is a major goal for the class team for Cataclysm.Q. Will rogues/hunters ever be able to dual wield hand-crossbows or pistols?
A. The pistol idea for hunters gets suggested a lot. It could either be an alternate to the gun / bow / crosssbow or something they use for short-range attacks. Rogues probably have plenty of weapons at this point.

Scaling is pretty universally good news. For my own endeavors, it means more pet stats for tanking. But it also means that pets will stay relevant to hunters in general. Their dps contribution becomes smaller and smaller as our gear improves right now, and I’d much rather see pets stay a central part of our class.
I should clarify, their percentage of our dps becomes smaller and smaller. Their total dps goes up.
Dual wielding Pistols? Maybe that eliminates the minimum distance issue with our ranged weapons. Would be fun if they were faster but less accurate than bows / rifles on long range, maybe carry a -Hit penalty?
Is there any news on the different ammo types people talked about? Like fire dmg, poison etc?
” We’ll try to do what we can. Technically it’s just more challenging than you might think”
means probably
“Don’t count on it” (again)
;-(
As for the “don’t count on it” Personally I would rather see them do it right than do it fast. As someone who works in the software development field, I know what kinds of problems can happen when you try to push something out the door before it is ready.
Frost, where did you pull this from? I would like to see what they have for Mages.
I’ve always wondered why pistols weren’t in the game and why there was no accuracy stat for ranged weapons. The fact that the “Dwarven Handcannon” is a rifle just seems stupid.
