Bloodlord Mandokir in Zul’ Gurub drops the rare Raptor mount. He’s entirely soloable for a hunter, but has a couple tricks up his sleeve that you should be aware of.

First of all, let me just say I made about every mistake in the book while recording this (was my first solo of him). I ended up fighting a pack of mobs and the Bloodlord and his raptor all at once. It was pretty funny and surprisingly survivable, so there’s a good margin of error. Also I never used cower or shell shield; however, my pet had 30k health. Turtle is probably still a good choice is you have lower health pools to work with.
As you likely know, ZG is way too big; however, you can just mount up and run past all the mobs on your way to the Bloodlord. Their aggro radius against a level 80 is very small and you shouldn’t have to fight anything on your way in.
Once you get to Mandokir’s area, clear out all the mobs. The Bloodlord will fear you around a bunch and you don’t want to risk aggroing them. That said, I certainly didn’t clear anything.
At the base of the pyramid is the Speaker. Once you kill him, Mandokir and the raptor will engage. Start off by killing the raptor. This will power up the Bloodlord, but it’s not a big deal. Then it’s just you, your pet, and the Bloodlord himself.
The Bloodlord has a few abilities you should be aware of:
- Whirlwind: not a big deal for your pet, but you want to be out of it.
- Charge: he’ll occasionally charge you and wipe his threat table. FD or just run to your pet so it can regain aggro.
- Focusing his Eye on You: when you see the message that he’s focusing his eye on you, you need to stop all attacks instantly for a brief while. If you attack him, he’ll charge you for several thousand damage. That said, I just ignored this most of the time.
And that’s all there is to it. The raptor should go down really fast. Bloodlord Mandokir will take a while. If your health gets low, just bandage. Be sure to wait for a charge and bandage right after the charge so that you won’t be interrupted.
The raptor mount has a 1% chance of dropping nowadays. Good luck!

I have a slightly different tactic on the Bloodlord, it’s a little fiddly but you won’t be feared around.
I get my turtle into a good position at the bottom of the stairs in range of the ledge, put it on stay and passive (Eye of the Beast can be useful for this part but not necessary). I try to skip the troll at the bottom and run to the top, if I aggro him, Feign halfway up the stairs.
At the top of the stairs you won’t aggro the Bloodlord until the other troll is dead so put walk on, because I have been known to keep jumping off when run is on, and turn left at the top, jumping onto the ledge. Position yourself at the edge of the ledge, Misdirect the troll at the bottom onto your turtle, Mend Pet, and Feign. If you don’t feign the Bloodlord can teleport you down to him and fear you about, which is a nuisance.
Once on the ledge and controlled, if you have to you can Eye of the Beast the turtle again to pick up the Bloodlord, or Misdirect or anything, just keep Mend Petting and nuke them down. I used to kill the raptor first before I had a lot of soloing gear+2pc T5 because he does a stacking debuff which the first few times killed my turtle, so without the gear, kill the raptor first, then the Bloodlord. You may have to spam MD + FD during the fight, but killing him from this ledge eliminates the annoying fears and RNG from the fight and makes it a lot easier to solo.
Oh yeah and remember to take the turtle off stay when you want him to attack the boss.
This was the first boss i did with solo
still think he is the most easy 1 because he won’t hit you hard when you make mistakes.
another nice 1 is the tiger boss.
but make sure you keep your mana drain on the healer.
otherwise you have a long fight (I drained the wrong one the first time and ended up with a 1 hour fight :S). when they are all down to around 10 % start volly. When the real boss appears he is piss easy.
Nice video, Frost. Think you could throw one up of the tiger boss as well? I planned on bear soloing that one (because of swipe). Pulled a solo on Heroic Nexus and Heroic VH a few days ago. Thanks for the help and thanks for giving me something fun to do!

how much HP does your pet have? i know this isnt the max hp build, but im curious.
i use the max HP build for about everything i solo and with my buffs (well fed for me and my pet, runescroll of fortitude, drums of kings and wild) my pet has 36-37k and i swear silverback gives him 1k every time he growls.
even with the max hp build, i do about ~1.7k (excluding my pet which t5 doesnt count). theres a lot of mobs my pet could live through if i staggered my shell shield, cower, and intimidation (if mob is stunnable).
Strike my last comment…it’s up on your YT account. Thanks, Frost!

oh i guess it is the max hp build ><
A guildie of mine told me of “the pyramid strat”, which is what Jaedia wrote. I kill the speaker before running up, which allows me to MD the boss and raptor to my pet immediately. The strat is buggy: about half the time, Mandokir and my pet teleport to my ledge and we spend the next 10 minutes running around ala Benny Hill. But when it works, the fight is cakesauce.
Do you have to do as BM?
Take the fight up the stairs and you dont have to kill the mobs downstairs.
I would think so Alakai, since it uses one of the extreme solo builds
this is my 1st boss for Extreme solo… PIECE OF CAKE!!!
