Stat Transfer Looking Grim…

As many of you probably already know, patch 3.3 is now on the background downloader, with predictions for it to launch maybe around Dec 15, possibly even Dec 8th.

Unfortunately what we have not seen yet on the PTR is anything about the much talked about transfer of all stats (except armor pen) to our pets. We’ve heard about the idea of our other stats, like agility, haste, crit, transferring to our pets from blue posts on three separate occasions now. A stat transfer would have been a nice little dps boost for endgame hunters (and a needed one, I think) as well as something that could have changed the balance of BM hunters in a raid environment.

Now, all hope is not yet lost. They could still squeeze it in. It’s also possible that they stealth applied it to one of the recent PTR builds without putting it in the patch notes. I haven’t done any testing on the last couple of PTR builds, so that’s possible.

However, the news is definitely grim.

Hope they get the stat transfer in this patch. Fun too see BM on top again. Remember back in kara when we were spamming steady shot and arcane shot ;)

I can’t imagine they would stealth it in, or even try at this point. I would imagine a move this this would require a TON of testing to address balance… :( Grim indeed. Guess I don’t need to go getting all worried that I still haven’t gotten Ony’s head yet.

But what pet do you think benefit the moast from the stat transfer? I’m thinking about the devilsaur. Would be nice to lvl the “best” pet after the stat transfer before the patch.

I’m not too concerned about the best raid pet. But can you imagine how kickass it would be for Extreme soloing? Now THAT is something I’m waiting for. Transferring all stats to our pets would open up all sorts of doors for new challenges since It could possibly make our pets in BM spec even more beastly. :D

So no stat transfer and no elimination of consumable ammo (which has been promised to us for quite some time now). I’m detecting a distinct lack of hunter love on Blizz’s part.

  6. Vael

Sounds like everything aforementioned will probably get rolled in to Cataclysm, but hey, we do get some upgraded ammo this round. Glad for that!

And as much as I love my wolf for his buffage, it would be nice to spread the love around for some other pet families. Its so one-sided to be in a raid with 2 Vargul blighthounds and a Shattered Halls warhound…that to me screams BROKEN!

No hunter love? Culling The Herd alone is looking to be a 250dps or so upgrade, never mind the new ammo types coming in 3.3. While I want the stat transference as much as the next person, I’m perfectly fine with an incremental bump that isn’t followed by a series of “OMG yeah, we miscalculated the effect, here, have a nerf nao.”

  8. Valacia

I tend to be with Vael on this one. I suspect that Blizz has decided that with the total overhaul of the hunter class with cata, that it would be best to just incorporate all of the major changes like this one with it.

Honestly I’m not shocked. Hunters have been promised a lot over the last year and none of it has seen the light of day. It’s no secret that the blizz dev’s have hunter class changes at the very bottom of their priority list….unless it involves a nerf.

I think I Have to agree with Fluffy. I am very happy with the incremental increases and that way we also avoid the “your class is OP” crap in the trade channel and the subsequent oh shit nerfs :) But seriously, we are getting a great adjustment with Culling the Herd and the ammo is covered in awesomesauce. I will not have any complaints to a great combined dps buff and a lower gold budget to keep my arrows/bullets firing. But secretly it would be nice to see something other than just wolfs running around :)

regarding the ammo changes. Personally I’m not looking forward to it. While Using a non-consumable ammo would be a nice boulder off the bank account, the talk around making it a drop off raid bosses is quite unfair. I’m typically always one step behind on raid progression, therefore usually never acquiring the BiS gear at the time of the content. This will mean unless I kcik it up a cog or two and start downing the top content, I will always be significantly behind on dps than others.

Also, I don’t even want to think what the PvP hunters are going to think about it. I do some offhand PvP myself and I don’t like the idea of being screwed on damage in bg’s because I wasn’t able to pick up the top notch ammo from the latest raid. Not to mention the people who play strictly for PVP and barely raid at all. That kind of a change I find is unfair because it forces a person into raiding for the sake of having the top notch ammo for their arena team and whatnot. Unless they make the same ammo available for the cost of Arena points/team rating then I foresee a lot of disgruntled pvp hunters in the future.

Dps boosts are always nice, so alas. But with my primary “news” interest being tanking improvements, I was unconvinced that tanks could stack avoidance and such without sacrificing too much threat. So the few changes being implemented (90% AoE avoidance without spec’ing for it = drool) are just fine by me.

I think it would be nice to see stat transfer affect an exotic pet the most. Exotic pets are so deep in the tree, you’d think the BM hunters would get some sort of massive bonus to dps or survivability for being *able* to tame an exotic pet plus having to go out and find one to tame and level it. I’ve never used BM, but it seems like if they’re going to have a talent tree, they might as well make it viable.

Wow this is bad news for me. Im like the only BM hunter on my server who raids BM. Or so it seems. I have always held my own but lately I swear my DPS is falling off a bit. I thought some kind of ninja nerf hit but who knows.
Sad news indeed. I have been playing around with MM lately. I even built up a second set of gear and gemmed it all agility as my BM gear has all attack power gems. On the test dummy my DPS in MM is better with my BM gear than the gear gemmed for agility?? You figure that one out.
Very sad and thinking of working on my Warrior and DK as my hunter seems to be stuck in a rut.

Actually, I’m not surprised in anyway that the big two changes seem not to come. Alas, I really do not want to go back to the days of the two shot BM rotation monster dps.

Froist, I’m not saying this because of a ‘told you so’, but I mentioned earlier already there wasn’t so “much” talk at all about stats transfer. Other than some vage mentioning that they liked the idea it, pretty much all the talk on fora was actually a lot of coppying from one blue posting in the end of summer. And even that said they were thinking on doing that and would see how much they would get done. And that ArP was hard so probably would fall out. I feartoo many of us – including myself :-) – were hyping eachother up.

The only confirmation of actual transfers being done was for resillience. Which even for PvP hunters is pretty much useless as any sane player goes for the master.

So this leaves pets still becoming less and less importtant with each patch … ;-(

It seems that it is not too much a priority. Or it is harder, because they don’t do a fixed transfer (like eliminating pets agility crit in favor for ours) but some complex formular where they mix it. In that case it isn’t even certain a transfer is a dps boost …

  18. Bindura

Just a note: Kripparrian has uploaded a new vid of his top dps parse on Heroic Beasts. A couple things to watch for are the cycling through of stings etc on multiple mobs and at 5.42 he uses disengage to give himself space after being charged by Icehowl.
The disengage has me stumped… I’ll have to try strafing; jumping and hitting it to see where I go. Thought I’d give you the heads up

  19. Sylrus

Oh I’m not denying a dps increase is nice, but it smacks of a cheap band aid to appease hunters rather than a willingness to address the more serious problems of the class, namely ammo and pets (I spent 51 points in BM to get a devilsaur, only to be outdone by a wolf and have the lowest hunter raid dps? Seriously?) Now maybe Vael’s right and it just means they’ve decided to move all these changes to Cataclysm, but in my mind the more major changes they roll into the expansion, the higher the likelihood that they’ll get it wrong and screw up the class we love (replacing mana with energy = DO NOT WANT).

not sure if you check here but looks like the level 1 raids are done for in 3.3
    from patch notes.
Players below level 10 may not join raids.
