If you’re anything like me you have long, long since passed any need for any kind of emblems of conquest. I bought all the conquest gear I could (much of it replaced now), I got heirloom sets for two alts (both of which I played for all of 2 hours), I bought 4 or 5 pieces of avoidance gear in hopes that those stats eventually transfer to pets, and a set of Runed Orbs. And I still have over 200 conquest emblems. I can’t describe how little use I have for emblems from heroic bosses.

But I still gotta do that pesky daily heroic to get my 14 extra triumph emblems each week. And boy do those get dull.

For a while we kept things interesting working on Glory of the Hero, but that’s done now and the dailies keep going on. Fortunately, there’s Hrist.

Hrist has always been big on moving things along quickly and strangely obsessed with how quickly we can kill Loken, but lately he’s just insane. And I, of course, love it. The crazy Hrist speed runs bring me back to the days of chain pulling MC (except, you know, Hrist won’t let me pull, probably because he’s insecure about my mad skills. And there was a couple of wipe incidents, one of which totally wasn’t my fault).

Hrist pulls like crazy and never stops for mana breaks. He usually pulls at least two groups of mobs at a time, sometimes more. He doesn’t care if one of those mob groups is a boss, either. Coming up to a boss he grabs the mobs in front of it and then charges the boss as well. Holy crap is it fun.

Of course you need a good healer to make it work, and often we only have 4 people which really slows us down. But I highly recommend it as a way of staying on your toes and keeping things entertaining.

So now I’m thinking I need to keep a running scoreboard of our best time for each instance — and then try to beat that time everon subsequent runs.

Current best is Nexus in 14 minutes. I haven’t been keeping track of time on Old Kingdom, but we skip every boss but two, and a good chunk of mobs as well, so I suspect our time is good there. ToC and VH suck because of the downtime of waiting around for more stuff to fight. HoS as well, I suppose.

Anyhow, current goal is to beat 14 mintues.

It was nice that Ony came around giving oppertunity for another 6 badges a week, do you keep track on the time to down Ony aswell or has she not entered the farm list yet?

  2. Prelious says:

I’ll take those Conquest Emblems. Box em up and send them my way..lol!

  3. Aurial says:

I know the feeling… Our core “five man group” (druid healer/tank, SV hunter, MM hunter [me], and FFB mage) is actually only four, and we often use a guildie or friend as a fifth to either tank or heal. Usually the four of us sit in vent, the fifth often not, and both the druid and I grow incredibly bored. This usually leads me to playing jokes on the tank, often misdirecting stray mobs on to him/her while fighting bosses. Sometimes the druid healer will go cat and kite back mobs or bosses. Usually in CoS, as the poor tank is trying to finish off the last of the mobs, the tank and I race (cat form versus Aspect of the Cheetah) to grab the second last boss, seeing who can pull first.

To be honest, even only doing one heroic a day, I am so bored with them I find fishing more interesting, and valuable. Every night I raid, I usually have 30 to 40 fish feasts on me. Still no turtle mount though. D: I could play one of my 8 alts who are all dressed head to toe in heirlooms, but… I like my hunter, because well.. he’s a hunter.

  4. Jehos says:

I wish more people had the attitude of “that was fun” instead of “you friggin’ idiot!” when it comes to crazy chain pulls. They’re a blast and they keep you sharp.

  5. Blargh says:

Yeh that really ticks me about my server…it’s relatively low pop so gettin into groups can be challenging if my guild isn’t on to play with….and BOY OH BOY r ya gunna hear about it if you cause a wipe, or if the dps isn’t high enough…or like my experiece yesterday in VH heroic….gettin a tank who really can’t hold the aggro, and yet yells that dps isn’t high enough…lol well doesn’t THAT make sense….if our dps was any higher he’d have just been an orc doormat inviting the boss to trample him on it’s way to get to us…which they were doing ANYWAYS…rofl…

hehhhehe…I always hafta make sure that whatever group I’m in the tank can hold ALOT of aggro…..if they can’t…well….let’s jus say that the rest of the party suffers for a lack of having feign death…and my excuse is ALWAYS the same…..

    “It was HIM!”

hmmmpff… idk.. i like mana. it helps me heal people.

  7. Armin says:

emblems -> buy a orb and sell it. Made good money in the beginning, but now they’re down to 100 gold per 18 emblems. Still OK I guess.

  8. Wiredude says:

My first experience with someone really chain-pulling was following a bear-tank through Shattered Halls. I gotta admit, I had a blast! Yeah, you gotta watch and keep your mana up, but Aspect of the Viper works great, especially when you can pop it right before using Volley on large packs.

  9. Arthemystia says:

Helps to be a JCer. I trade my badges down for gems, cut some epics, then sell those for far more than the orbs are going for these days. Also PvP gear, but it’s not much of a priority for me.

I go BM for such chain-pulling antics. Don’t want to wait for me to get mana? Cool, I’ll just send my pet in and go afk. MM without a mana battery in heroics is infuriating, though.

  10. Chimy says:

Yeah, hopefully that will change a little when they make hunters a non-mana based entity.

It’s kind-of annoying to be hopping back and forth between viper and hawk and then bitched at when your (and the other dpsers) damage is low. Fortunately you guys are friends, so there’s no miscommunication. I ignored a chain-pulling pug-failtank for this, and other reasons.

  11. Malania says:

Well for a laugh me and a mate Toumari decided to do Utgarde Pinnacle as fast as possible. Finished it in 16 minutes.

  12. Panzer says:

A couple of weeks ago some guildies noticed that we haven’t yet managed to get the daily done.. looking at the clock 2:35 AM. The daily resets at 3 AM. (Yes we usually are around that late).
2:39 i was picking up the daily which was UK. 2:55 we were all turning in the quest.
Our estimates put it at around 11 minutes to do UK.

  13. Fradin says:

Yeah nothing like those massive paly tank pulls i think they are one of the best for drawing mass mobs , we are always doing heroics in mobs these days as its no fun otherwise and no challenge its nice to be kepted on your toes.

  14. Darkwenna says:

With the arriva lof my DK to 80 I have not been playing my hunter nearly as much.. Mostly tanking and insane chain pulling is the only way to keep the heroics entertaining. I too keep track of how fast we get thru, we are usually between 15-20 minutes. but we always kill all the bossses because those runed orbs sell pretty well on the AH.

  15. Rhinochaser says:

I know this is a Hunter forum and I love my hunter. But my 1st 80 is a tauren Warrior and I DPS and Tank a bit on him and HRIST interests me. I have difficulty holding agro on large groups with my warrior so I would LOVE to know how Hrist is holding agro on all these targets durring these chain pulls? Im super serial too. Any chance Hrist can answer this?? thanks

  16. UniQ says:

I havent done the daily in 3 days or so, sitting on 200 triumph with nothing to buy really.

Time record for gundrak is 8 min for me on my alt paladin as tank, fastest instance I have done.

  17. Orcha of Bloodscalp (eu) says:

200 Triumph’s!!! omg **GREED*** that would take me like 10 weeks not missing a daily and doing both VoA 10/25 and Ony 10/25 and I promise you that I easily could spend those badges…

  18. Hrist says:

    Rhino,

First, you need to know that Warriors are the weakest AE threat class (although some would argue that druids are) so it’s not easy to do and, if I am being completely honest, I’d tell you I don’t keep full aggro at all times. Although I think most of my issue is that our DPSers all seem to pick different mobs to single target down. It never fails and if I didn’t know better I’d say they secretly plot which MOBs they are going to attack to drive me insane. Sure I could use the damn charms but I am an old school player and I got used to tanking and such long before they were introduced. Also, I keep dreaming that one day people will just remember what the priority MOBs are instead of me having to constantly remind them.

Anyway, this is what I do, and it works pretty well when everyone is AEing and not just randomly single target burning.

Charge the pull I am going for. My charge target priority is caster > hunter > furthest away target. If there is a caster AND a hunter mob or 2 casters I will charge the hunter (or 1 of the caster) mob and toss my Heroic Throw at the (other) caster to silence him and make him run to me. Then I Thunderclap and reposition so they are all in front of me and hit them with a Shockwave and a Demo Shout for good measure. Then I just spam Cleave and tab target for individual slams and revenges. They die pretty quick so no time for any real contribution from Devastate.

After that it’s just using the AE abilities as they come up and getting a feel for when you can move on to the next group.

As Frost said, this relies heavily on a competent healer to be able to keep the tank up and also quick to toss something at the DPS who can’t assist properly but the tank does need to be geared really well to handle all the adds effectively.

  19. Rhinochaser says:

Wow thanks for the quick reply. I Am one on my guilds main tanks on my DK but to be honest I have had AOE tanking issues with my warrior from time to time. I have tweaked my spec to be more AOE friendly and have tried all manner of glyphs. I usually always use the glyph of blocking and then 2 others but recently I dropped the blocking glyph to use ALL the AOE glyphs together so right now I have for major glyphs; cleve, devestate, and sunder armor. I know that dropping the blocking glyph is like prot warrior blasphemy but again Im trying different things to see how it works.

Your pulling and positioning methods sound similar to mine. HTOC for example lets say I have rogue, warrior, mage for the 1st three bosses. Using the skull, X, square marking I heroic throw X then charge skull and get a shield block and slam on him then t/clap and step back to funnel them all in for a shock wave, then I stack a few sunders on skull and cleve, and t clap, and then tab to X to get shiled block and some sunders there but I always seem to loose agro on at least 1 of them due to a AOE attack from a mage, or a bladestorm by a warrior. I will try the spaming cleve and tab target & shield slams & revenge rather than trying to get sunders stacked and see how it goes. Thanks so much for your time Hrist. Here is my warriors armory link below. I would welcome any further advice.
