Pets scaling in Patch 3.3
We’re still working on it. One stat that will almost certainly not get scaled to the pet is armor pen. It is technically (for obscure reasons) challenging to convert the armor pen rating from the hunter to the pet. Given armor pen’s not so rosy future (as a stat on gear anyway), this one probably won’t get resolved.
At last — word that we will indeed be getting stat transfered to pets!
Not armor pen, which will be painful to MM hunters who still gem for armor pen post 3.2.2 (this will likely be the death of any armor pen over agility builds) but fantastic news still. Again, my theory remains that they’ll probably lower pet base damage. I mean, otherwise even if stats like crit and haste only transfer at 10%, that’s still a substantial buff for hunters, and my hunch is that blizz likes where hunter dps is at now.
Either way, this will equate to a much larger benefit for BM hunters, letting them further close that gap between MM/SV and BM. Will it be enough to bring them back as a viable raid spec? Frostheim guesses no – they still won’t be a top spec, but will be damn close.
What I still haven’t heard, and what my dark little heart is secretly hoping, is whether they’ll actually have defensive stats transfer to the pet as well. I’m talking dodge, parry, and defense. Because I’ve been quietly squirrling away an avoidance set ever since I heard the “all stats transfer” thing in hopes of making an uber pet tank for extreme soloing (and, tanking).
i wonder just how crappy they’ll make pets in that case. if it turns out that you need super gear to have a good pet and unless you do you have a crappy pet i mean. i hope that’s not the case.
Certainly should be interesting, I can’t speak for all Servers but on A-N ranged DPS seems to be in somewhat short supply, perhaps this will encourage people to pick up their Hunters again.
I think I did too. Not only because of that great news, but also because my guildie (a tank) just called me and asked me to log on to wow (it’s 6am) cause he’s looking at Loque, and he knows I’ve spend way to many hours camping him. I’ve NEVER got up so fast, my heart raced as I flew from Dalaran. Called my trash stabled pet, switched specs, remana-ed – tamed. I think I peed – I got a new pet, and it’s a Spirit Beast, gonna have to sleep in Depends just in case he finds Skoll.

Frost, you’ve convinced me. I need to start building an avoidance set as well.
I hope its the defense skills, as with the 2 trinkets from the brewmaster drops I would be laughing the stamina boost and the dodge rating trinket would really increase my pet tanking abilitys that would be awesome.
Being a die hard BM hunter this seems like a big deal. Im wondering though if the scaling pet damage will push us to re gem for agillity once more instead of attack power?

I too hope they aren’t about to nerf pets, as being a BM that would kill us even more than the orther trees. I love being a BM, and won’t change, but if the do nerf pets, it’ll certainly kill my enthusiasm for playing Kaz.
If Blizzard is trying to bring BM up close to the standards of MM and SV, or as close as they can. Then I seriously doubt that pets themselves will get nerfed. Unless, Blizzard makes it so where the Common Tamable Pets get nerfed or the Exotic Pets get a boost in stats and abilities so BM’s will almost always be using those Exotic Pets because right now, really a BM can do the same or more with some of the Common Tamable Pets. In other words whats the point in taming Exotic Pets if there is no significant increase in something besides the Trophy Value.
Of course that is just a thought, I’m hoping that Exotic Pets become more BM useful. I love my BM spec and want to be able to tank with Lightfoot, Sharptooth, or Gustav.
