Clearly after yesterday’s post, everyone has their discussion hats on – so let’s have some discussion on another topic!
The Jump Shot video guide was pretty popular (and exposed a lot of keyboard turners!) and I was thinking about putting together some more video guides.
So of course my question is — what would you like to see video guides for?
Is there any other element of huntering that you think is better explained in video format where you can actually see what’s happening? Addon guides? Recount tutorials? Theorycraft datagathering tutorials?
Some videos about how to setup and use different addons that you find valuable would be great.
I know there are tons of things I could be doing with Recount that I’m not because I just haven’t taken the time to learn how to do it yet. A video with any tips and suggestions for this, Power Auras, etc would be wonderful.
I second Kent’s request. Maybe a whole UI customization video. I’m just beginning to gear up in Heroics and the default UI is really holding me back. I have trouble seeing the action and watching cool downs and not standing in damage-zones, etc. I’ve played around with Bartender, Dominos, etc. but they’re always too intimidating for me. With a video guide about how to get the most out of them, I think I’d feel a lot more comfortable trying to mess with things and produce a UI that works for me rather than makes me work for it.
Add-ons are always a fun topic. You had a great post a little while back about what addons you use and some screens, I would suggest those asking about your addons check it out. I am in love with Power Auras currently. I have been using it on my hunter lately and its nice, works great with D-hud so my and my pets HP/Mana/Focus and targets are all centered around my hunter. When the different Auras show I can see everything without moving my eyes away from where I need to be focusing. I copied your Aspect of the Viper aura, and it works, but if I am in combat it shows the aura even if I am OOM.
Any thoughts?
Frost, do you give much heed to your put buffs? I am running around as BM(still leveling this horde hunter since I didn’t want to drop $60 to just transfer/faction change) so pet dps is more important than MM or SV. With the default UI, you can only see them if your pet is your target or is your focus (I think). How would you keep track of the pet buffs?
Hunter addons, some useful ones that people might now know about! That would help many hunter raiders.
Before BRK took his step down for good he had a ‘Baby Hunter’ series going where he took you through the basics of being a hunter from the very beginning. He showed us that you dont have to melee until level 10, instead using it as a good training ground for Jump-Shotting. As each new ability became available, he described it’s usefulness. What was great was that when you first start levelling a character you really dont know or care much about the end-game uses of it, you just want to do damage. But knowing that, say, Arcane Shot was magical damage and ignored armor, was a good way to keep us informed as each skill was added to our repertoire. I’d love to see a similar series that re-inforces good hunter habits as you level from 1-80, bringing both new and returning hunters up to par and ready to go as soon as they hit 80.
Myself and a lot of other hunters I know could use a video on how to setup PAWN and how to determine your own custom setting that you put in PAWN to help with gear selection.
This would be the most helping for thing for me as a new 80.
I would love to see some vids / guides on hunter theorycrafting.
Been trying to do some for a while, but most guides are out of date (by a lot) or arent really percise about what im doing
I’m down with a video about addons. I always find it interesting to see different peoples setup because you can learn a lot from them. You don’t have to copy them exactly, but just by viewing you can learn a couple small things that might help you improve your game.
I learnt a lot from my buddy and have adapted things from this site like Power Auras.
I’ll also agree with a PAWN video. Earlier today I went through Sandara’s (spelling) spreadsheet and got a PAWN value from there, but being new I have no clue if it’s proper.

Hey Frost, how about boss fight videos for ToC, Ulduar, Naxx, etc… from a hunters viewpoint. ooooh and a video showing how to kite enemies, i know a lot of hunters
out there that could use that one.
and some pvp(arenas) videos LOL, just kidding.

I’m planning on doing a series on raiding UI configuration, and I suck at video making, so if I could just refer people here if they need to see how to configure powerauras to show them whether they’re missing dalaran intellect or blessing of kings, that’d be epic.
Hunter PvP videos would be of most interest to me. Dropping traps, jump-shots, kiting, taking advantage of cc abilities, and especially videos of PvPing comparing the various trees (BM, MM, and SV) would really help me improve my game.
In fact, one-on-one scenarios countering the various classes would be especially helpful. Darn Paladins.
I’d like to see a “How To” on killing each class in a 1v1 situation. or at least the difficult ones that involve kitting

I would like some add ons guides, like PAWN and other hunter really handy add ons. The idea of bosses in hunter pov is really good too. and i bet theres a lot more for it, hunter is the best class of wow 8D
Personally I found this blog through the elite/dungeon soloing stuff you do, so any more in that vein is good for me
after reading the comments of your jump shot guide, your next guide should be a camera pointed at your hands so they can see what your fingers and hands do.
do a side by side with a video of you jump shotting and kiting so they can get the visual.

Yup, did Thyrm – simple tank & spank. I was disappointed to see that he was chained to his path — I wanted to kite him throughout Northrend – like taking photos of a lawn gnome around the world.
Sv vs mm I think was the most interesting post I’ve read from here…but for me,I follow evrything what frost says. He’s just that good, I think even better than that of ensindias hunter.but then again,its just me.frostheim ftw ;D

add-ons. plain and simple
Yeah i am still a keyboard turner trying to convert but its not easy when i have been playing games for over 8 years like that on my keyboard lol. Maybe i could get a faster keyboard or paint it red as red is always faster lol But seriously yeah a Pawn set up guide would be good i set mine up with the stats from here but I am not certain I have got it all ruuning correctly would love to see how you set yours up and what it can offer as i only tend to use it for the gear rating.
I can’t think of anything in particular, tbh. And I don’t really have issues with add-ons, fun as it is to see the interface of others. Still haven’t learned jump shotting yet, but I’ll be using that guide soon.
Video guides are great, but don’t reach for topics just to post them. More soloing exploits is always a welcome, however.
on the PTR’s their is some discussion going on about hunter ‘s AoE pulling with misdirect and explosive trap, I tried it out, and it works, great…..if the mobs dun stay in your explosive trap area, if they do togheter with volley you’ll rip the agro of anything that’s not a Bear tank, so what are you tought’s about it and could you make a MD video (on PTR)? cause I know allot of guilds are going to ask us hunters to do such pulls.
I would add to the others asking for PvP guides (i suck at it) and how to deal with the different classes in BGs.
also the Addon spotlight videos would be usefull PAWN in particular as its quite confusing.
Perhaps a review on how you have your Recount set up Frost.
I have been having issues with Recount not reporting even close to others in my guild. I’m usually 1 – 1.5K below others. I have tried comparing my settings with others and even re-installed the addon. I’m hoping you may show me something the others haven’t.
I am down with the PVP guides, but uh…that kind of a difficult thing to ask. To do it effectively, he would have to be communicating with the other player, kind of a big time commitment. It would be pretty cool though.
General rules of PVP Kill them before they can pop cooldowns or make them use their cooldowns before you use yours, then burn them down.
Just for all you pvp players Frost has admitted that hes not that way inclined and does not play that style infact a month or so ago he put up a post for a pvp hunter to blog on the site however i do not know if anybody answered the request i guess not because i have not seen any posts about pvp. Evey type of game play is different from , tanking, extreme soloing, pvp or just leveling and without having a background in those fields makes it extremely hard to post the facts and the what to dos.
I do pvp; however, I do not consider myself an expert. When I put out the call for a pvp writer, I got a handful of responses but alas was not able to find someone who could both A) write well enough and B) had a decent arena ranking (ie: credentials).
I’d like to see a video that address crucial points hunters should know on all the current fights.
I would really love to see a vid (possibly a slow-mo?) showing exactly how you are maximising your dps, how you time your shots etc.
It’d be awesome to have Hunter How-to on certain boss fights because while I use your tips for them there are bosses where I get my ass kicked, and clearly you don’t.
Instead of taking the more advanced add-on route.. why not do a basic’s done right series.
Jump shot was a great start… and a good segue into kiting.
Traps. When and how and what trap. Videos of all traps the working in appropriate situations. Maybe focus on Freezing.
Also it would be nice to see clear video of shot priority for the different specs with descriptions (like.. “I’m now waiting for explosive to tick fully before shooting the other free one I get from Lock n’ Load”).
