ThinkGeek Cool Spy stuff

The new Hunting Party Podcast is up. I have not yet listened to this (driving home from ICON — got enough internets in the car to post, but not download the podcast) but Euripides and Darkbrew apparently talk about some stuff and then Darkbrew and I go over all of the WHU questions, and I rant about pvp for a little while. As I recall we also talked about the worst WoW sites on the web.

I shall try to make a little player link to listen here:

Here is The Hunting Party Podcast Feed – and here is the itunes Store Link.

Or you can click to Download the Podcast direct to your computer.

  3. Hrist says:

Please! Someone of Frost’s stature has a chauffeur!

  4. Fradin says:

I thought that was you riding in the limo hey the podcast stopped before Frost got on ? and the link does not seem to work for me.

  5. Fradin says:

I even went to outdps website and the same thing happens do i need to purchase or install something so i can hear it all ? it stops before Frost gets on :( can someone please help

  6. Purp says:

Eh really? I’m dling it right nwo so I can listen to it away from the comp I hope it’s intact :x

  7. Satsok says:

Really fun to listen to while doing my dailies. I hope Frost does more podcasts with those guys.

  8. nheco says:

I really liked to hear this but it seems that ends in the middle of the conversation, Frost is talking and it suddenly ends and i would like it to hear it until the end. Are we getting the rest of it Frost?

  9. Zat says:

Yeah, Frost. It cuts out in the middle of your hunter PVP rant about getting slaughtered by a warrior with less than 20% health because you have no resilience gear.

  10. Sorry about the cut-ups: I’m looking for an alternate hosting solution. And yeah, Frost told us in no uncertain terms that he would be making appearances regularly.

  11. Zat says:

That’s fine, Euripides. Keep the podcasts coming, though.

  12. Bozanimal says:

Only one thing regarding the podcast; the stickies in the official Hunter forums are often very useful for fledgling hunters, and WoWWiki can be useful for learning to make macros.

Some very interesting commentary on Hunters in PvP that really made me think, especially after being globaled by a Rogue stacked to the gills with Tenacity in Wintergrasp this morning.

By the way, I was surprised you never mentioned how you are specced for PvP?

  13. Vael says:

Great listen, Frost! Thanks so much for addressing the T8.5/T9 set bonus issue…you’ve inspired me to save those Triumph badges and *not* break up the 8.5 goodness!

(And hey, was that a bit of emotion expressed when you considered solo-ing BC instances? *grin*)

  14. Fradin says:

Nope it still stops still when there talking dummy dps and raid instances dps dam do i need to make a itunes account to hear it all ? it stops at 22.45 before Frost gets on .

  15. Arthemystia says:

That thing was long. Who really has time to spend hours devoted to some silly game…oh wait.

    ;-)

    Gj all 3.

  16. Bossk says:

I just wanted to say something about hunters being broken in pvp. I didn’t hear Frost say anything in his bg story about using scattershot or the pin/web pet abilities. If you aren’t using a pvp spec or pvp pet, it’s obviously going to make things much more difficult in pvp. It’s the same as wondering why I do less damage in totc when I’m using my 0/56/15 arena spec. You have to use everything thats available to you, the same way that we break down every little thing for maximizing damage in raids.
Kiting and killing any dk/ warrior (and most ret pallys) is really pretty simple if you are throwing the right cc’s at the right time, and if you have readiness and your movement trinket rdy to go, there really isn’t any excuse to get beat one on one if you use all the tools available.
Furthermore, I think it’s pretty brash to say hunters have no place in 2v2s. Frost, go to arenajunkies and see where we stand, you might be impressed. There are a few great vids of 2v2 hunters cleaning up that will inspire you. Earlier in the season I think 5 of the top 10 teams in the world were hunter and priest/druid/pally. Arena is all about perfecting your cc cycles and if you can learn to play with your teammate well, you can take almost anyone.
Overall my point is that hunters are not, by any means, broken in pvp. You just have to do your research. How do you think warriors feel when they are pinned, scattershotted, trapped, concussive shotted, wingclipped, all while taking massive damage and unable to unload their cooldowns through your deterrence and intervene? Probably like a newb pvp hunter.

  17. Sanctos says:

Hunters are fine in PvP and they’ll be that much stronger next patch with pet scaling and Warlock nerfs.

  18. Blunt says:

    Nice podcast.

It would be a great addition to your hunter guides to include your ideas on definitive armor combinations for higher level armor as discussed in the podcast.
    For MM, SV, BM etc.
Backed up of course with your reasoning.
You do a great job for pre-raid gear, enchants and gems.

Of course at higher levels you are going for gear dropping off bosses and I wouldn’ t expect you to include all that, but at medium level what would Frost spend his badges on?

  19. Frostheim says:

Bossk: I think you missed the point. I’m not saying that hunters are bad in pvp, I’m saying that the mechanics are broken and unbalancable because it’s virtually impossible to perfectly balance the melee/ranged factor. Either the hunter is going to be screwed and unable to do anything because the melee has more closing ability or the melee is going to be screwed and unable to do anything because the hunter has more escapes.

As long as melee are ineffective at range and ranged is ineffective in melee, one or the other will be screwed and essentially unable to play — whoever has the most close/escape per minute will be the winner, assuming equal skill.

  20. Bossk says:

I agree its impossible to perfectly balance escape ability and closing ability for hunters and melee, but I don’t really see why thats a problem. The fun part is learning to earn yourself one or two more seconds of dps than they get.
I wouldn’t say that the hunter is ‘screwed and unable to do anything’ or the melee is ‘screwed and unable to do anything’, because there is really much more too it. It’s really an on going process of give and take, and it’s never over till it’s over. There is always something you can be doing or a cooldown you need to be saving, and whoever is more skillfully applying their cc is going to win.
If I trinket out of sap instead of waiting for the kidney shot, shame on me. If I leave myself open for a whirlwind without a deterrence or disengage, shame on me. And if they have already popped their movement trinket, I can put the pet on passive, drop a trap, and sit to eat and drink through that bleed while they sit frozen for 20 seconds.
I am not sure why you would call the mechanics broken, because there are no 2 specs of any class that are going to have the exact countering necessary when facing each other. Thats kind of the whole point, everyone gets a wide range of pvp abilities and the order of operation you use depends on you learning what works and what doesn’t for each class.
In 2v2 my priest and I have had many long fights against a plate dps/healer. It can begin to feel like a stalemate, but that first kill is going to come down whoever used the right cc, on the right target, at the right time, the most often.
It is impossible to create perfect balance, but most classes are close enough (hunters included) that the win goes to the more experienced and skilled player. What more can you really hope for?

  21. Frostheim says:

Currently in pvp with hunters, the win usually goes to the melee, assuming a decent skill level (with beginners/unskilled who knows what’ll happen).

  22. Bossk says:

I used to think that before I starting putting effort into arena and arena gear, but I have to disagree now. Rogues have edge for cc, ret pallys for longevity, kittys lean toward rogue(minus scare beast). But dks and warriors are easy kills unless I mess up. How can you die to a dk one on one? They cant touch you.

  23. Fradin says:

Nope i can only listen to the one here which cuts off before Frost gets on and when i try to get it fromI tunes it comes up with ( err = 9006 ) which apparently nobody knows how to fix i hate missing out too !!!!. Infact i can not even download the early hunting party ones either wow apple suxs .

  24. Fradin says:

or maybe they are just jealous of us Aussies lol

  25. colthepyro says:
