I was excited when they upped the ammo stacking and made it so we no longer needed an ammo pouch eating up one of our bag slots. Really, I was.
But, well, you see:
Is it just me not only hanging on to my old 28 slot ammo pouch, but actually keeping it full at all times?
In fact, I even go a step further into crazy — as you can see I have that one stack of slacker ammo in addition to the Mammoth Cutters. That’s so if I’m not paying attention and run out of ammo mid-fight (you know, if I go through all 27,000 bullets) I won’t actually be completely unable to shoot – I can equip the slacker bullets to get me through the fight.
And I’m pretty regular about replenishing my bullet supply too. At least before every raid I make sure it’s topped off. It’s like some kind of compulsive disorder, like CDO.
Or maybe it’s just that I can’t think of anything that would justify being called a noob and a huntard more than running out of ammo.
i actually just switched from the 20 slotter to the 28 slotter, because i was worried about running out. i try to tell myself i will never ever run through that many bullet, now that i have the 28 slotter, but i still find myself getting nervous when that first row gets low.

I am glad I am not alone! I thought my account got hacked and I was looking at my character… I even go as far as to have a Frostweave bag in my bank that is full of Mammoth Cutters so that when that first slot goes dry I can run to the bank and refill it. I know in my case it is very reassuring to open my ammo pouch and see all those little bits of DPS looking back at me.
I’m a LW and I’m still getting requests for the big ammo bag/quiver, some want them just out habit, some are terrified of running out of ammo, and even some for the convenience of having their ammo go straight to their pouch upon purchase/creation. It took a leap of faith for me to throw away my quiver, but in the end i found that 8000 Saronite Razorheads and 4000 vendor arrows (for farming and emergencies) gets me through a raid night. The extra bag space actually makes a difference when farming. Thats just my opinion though

I still carry my nerubian reinforced quiver (and keep it full). The “bag space” is irrelevant, as well as unnecessary. My quiver means something to me; I grew up with it and it’s part of who I am.
My hunter is my farmer so I got rid of that bag faster than you can say ammo pouch. I have yet to run out of ammo, I keep 2 stacks of cutters and 4 stacks of crappy ammo, because who wants to waste good ammo on farming
I always repair at the hunter gear shop so I always go next store and restock on cheapo bullets everytime I’m in Dal. Haven’t had a problem yet. Of course, if I ever get her to 80, maybe I will care more since I might actually end up in a raid with her.

I use a regular 20 slots bag, and only carrie 8000 arrows. Thats more than enough for a full night of progressing or just killing farming boss’.

I worked hard for my Dragonscale ammo pouch. It’s always full of Mammoth Cutters. I mine and there are a couple of engineers in the guild so, for me, Mammoth Cutters are basically free. Keep ammo in a regular bag??? NEVER

4 stacks of real ammo, 4 stacks of farming ammo, 4 boxes of ammo, all nestled happily in a bag made from Onyxia’s hide.
usually about 8 stacks with me and a stack each of saronite and triggers just in case, no need for anvil anymore. if those plans fail, i always have repair bots for crapammo and jeeves to get more mats from bank.
Last night my guild did an impulse-run of 10-man Obsidian Sanctum. I know it’s easysauce and should be no biggie, but raids still stress me out. While we were buffing I opened my bag to get out a fish feast and saw I was down to only two stacks of mammoth cutters. I nearly had a panic attack … even though 2,000 rounds is enough for two quarters of Naxxramas or a whole day of heroics.
And yet, as ridiculous as it is, I’m really going to be disappointed if the rumors come true of consumable ammo being removed from the game. Somehow I like the satisfaction of looking in my bag, seeing four or five stacks of ammunition and going, “Yup. Whatever else might go wrong, at least I won’t run out of bullets.”
I guess ammunition in my bags is my security blanket. Kind of like always keeping my relics of Ulduar on me instead of in my bank. Cause you just never know when I MIGHT accidently find myself in Dun Niffelm. Or something.
Okay, I’m just weird.
With the advent of cheaper ammo, I’m transitioning to having only the best ammo, which had heretofore been saved only for raids. Dues paying and whatnot. Having too much ammo isn’t difficult these days, since a measly stack of saronite will net me 10K arrows.
And I still have my ammo pouch out of laziness. I’m never in need of bag space, and haven’t felt like switching it out.
So at least SOME of us are normal.
was definitely in the same boat, took me a while to just “let go” – but now the extra bag space is well worth it. I carry 8 stacks at all times, with a full stack of Saronite Bars and Triggers
I think a full Naxx, or full UD (let’s toss in some wipes too) I dont think i’ve ever used more then 5000 in a raid night – and you know there is the odd time that a fellow hunter needs some help too….its rare, but also kinda cool to be prepared and able to help, and the Raid leader never needs to now that hunter #2 arrived with a short stack
after that it is all “routine” for me, as soon as I log in for the day its mail, repair, check auctions, check ammo, check buff eats for me and the stables – then pointy end towards the mob
had a gun break once forgetting to repair, but can’t say i’ve ever run out of ammo
the other hunter in our raid party always seems to keep ender 4k with her. and i always panic and make sure i have saronite with me in case she runs out. she still hasnt
i should actually expand on this a little. currently in my bank there is over 500 bars of saronite and at least 5 stacks of triggers ‘just in case’ lol
Dropped my ammo bag the day patch hit. I now carry six stacks of ammo. I also use this macro button on my action bar:

This not only shows me number of ammo remaining (something the bag slot wont do over 999), and allows me to one button craft a stack should i run out. Since it no longer requires an anvil, a stack of saronite and a stack of blasting triggers is much more space efficient than the arrows themselves.
I have over 40000 Mammoth Cutters right now. I keep at least 16000 on me at all times.
I have no idea why. OCD I guess. :p

Freaking hilarious…. Same bag… completey packed as well. I’ve never drained more than about 5,000 in a day. I always promptly top them off though with my 20 cases in the bank. I agree though. That stack of 411 needs to be in a corner or right after the crap bullets.

No way I would do that anymore, I love my newfound bag space. 3 or 4 stacks of good ammo, one unused crate (2 more stacks) as my ‘reserve tank’ if I run out accidentally, and a couple stacks of vendor ammo is enough to keep me happy. If I was really really worried about it I could get the AT squire kitted up to give access to the bank and keep a bunch in there.. but losing a whole bag slot? I don’t miss that in the least.
I have the same bag, but I only keep about 2 rows of Mammoth Cutters and just use the highest vendor ammo in the first 3 rows for farming. I don’t worry about running out of ammo.
But I agree with Hrist, that 411 in the middle really bugs me.
I’m like that too… although I take it one step further due to a huntard moment. Not only do I keep a full ammo bag, I also have a spare gun for emergencies.
I once spent the better part of a day running some guild alts through SM and then ZF repeatedly. Basically just pet on Aggressive and volley/multishot, while I watched DVDs on the other monitor.
Of course, Volley does horrendous damage to the durability of your weapon. Since I wasn’t paying attention, I didn’t notice the red paperdoll icon on my screen from my gun getting down to single digits durability.
Then I went to do the daily heroic (VH) that evening, went to work volley’ing down the trash waves… and had my gun hit ZERO durability during the 3rd or 4th wave.
Being a hunter who can’t shoot is kinda embarassing.
I had to run out of the instance and around the corner to the ranged weapon/ammo shop. Luckily it was VH and not something out in the middle of no where, so I was back in time for the 1st boss fight. (No one in the group was an engineer, so no repair bots)
So from now one, I keep a spare gun in my bag, gemmed and scoped… just in case.
when they took away the bonus from the bag, i got rid of mine and went out to buy haris pilton’s gigantic sack to commemorate the occasion of me getting a bag slot back. i havent quite forgiven myself for that (tho, in theory, i still hold to it being something worth celebrating, just wish i had chosen a cheaper way).
i keep a stack of about 4000 on me at pretty much all times, and since im an eng, i keep a stack of saronite so i can craft more on the spot if needed. i never blow through more than 4k a night (rarely even come close), and i always refill before raiding. an ammo pouch really wouldnt fit me. i dont need anymore than 4k at a time, and i use the extra slots for all sorts of other things.
I have yet to get rid of my 28 slot either in fact i keep it stock full as well. I stock with with frostbite bullets for every day use ie dailies, ganking etc. then my mammoth cutters i use only for instances. They are expensive so i would rather they go towards something that means something other than wasting them on everyday junk. I so cant wait for the no ammo tho oh thats going to be a blessing
I’m right there with you. I was all pumped about freeing up a bag slot, but now i just keep the 20-slotter full of ammo. I’ve been wanting to switch back to my ammo pouch for more slots, just haven’t gotten around to it.

I’d have only kept it if Bliz had given my 28000 rounds of ammo a animation to go with my Xbow. Ala Rambo would be fine: a belt feed of ammo fed into my weapon whilst casings shed chaotically at my feet? For the Bow version check out the old school movie “Archer, Enemy of the Empire”. Legolas, eat your heart out.
What? Its a fantasy game afterall, if Frost gets his guild idea, we gotta have something other than pet collars to daydream about.
Since I’m both OCD and a virtual “hoarder,” I don’t have enough bank space to keep all of my ammo in…so, I just use the pet engineer that I keep on a leash to send me arrows thru the mail. That way, if I happen to run low-ish (aka “less than an entire bag of arrows”) during a raid, I just have him pop up a mailbox and I select with pleasure.
And dear Elune, move that half-used stack of bullets to your first slot, silly dwarf!

Seems alot of hunters are engineers also. I keep 8K bullets, but I have 10K bullets and 10K arrows in my mail(send to bank alt and have him return them every 28 days or so).
So if we(lots of hunter in guild) every need some in a raid, I just pop up the Moll-E(second best thing after jeeves) and ammo for all. I dumped the ammo bag, for the main reason, i carry my full pvp set, and buff food, and pet food, plus flasks and whatever else, no reason to lose bag space.
I still carry the ammo bag. But is is never more than half full. Runs out to fast and I’m too cheap to keep in stacked like Frost
I mean I never blow out more than 5k at a night. I do use the same trick as Frost keeping one stack of slakker-ammo…
So I could use a normal bag, but i’m sentimental and don’t need the bagspace. Got one bag for hersb and flasks, one for food and fishing and that leaves two to pick up all the garbage you can pick up during a raid/quest/etc. The days like Blackrock Depts/Mountain where your bags would fill up with tons of trash is gone anyway …
Pretty eerie that you posted this as my bro who is a LW just sent me that bag yesterday as I was devouring ammo like crazy. Luckily he has another toon that is an engineer so he keeps me stacked with lotsa boom boom. I stuck the ammo bag (totally full) in my guild bank and generally keep around 5k rounds in my bags. There is no more pensive feeling than being a couple bosses away from a Nax 25 clear and seeing 7-800 rounds left.
I start chanting L.Ron Hubbard, L. Ron Hubbard hoping I make it before having to announce to 24 other people that I need a Lock summon back cause I have blanks on board. i try to ignore the (generally) overbearing tank RL telling me to single target as I keep the AOE up constantly on trash to conserve my bullets.
In my first ever naxx (also my first ever raid) I ran out of ammo halfway through KT and had to raptor strike/immolation trap him to death for 900 dps or whatever. So I feel justified in carrying absurd amounts now.
1x stack of actual ammo (800-1000) ? … 1 bag slot
2x boxes ?… 2 bag slots
1 automatic warning for ammo <800 ? … an Addon and a few minutes programming
More bag space to carry your vendor trash? … priceless
I scrapped my quivers and ammo pouches immediately. I carry 4-5 stacks of Saronite Razorheads on me and stock up whenever I remember. I have my stack of arrows on my toolbar so I always have a visible counter of how many I have left, but just in case I always have a mail message with full Razorhead stacks attached that I keep sitting in my mailbox, which I can pull out in emergencies with MOLL-E.

I kept using my 28 slot quiver until I got Rune Edge. Seems like the new two-handers and the old graphic for a quiver on your back didn’t play nice.

Ur not alone, but then again i do manage to go thru about 20 stacks of ammo fairly quickly.
I take 4 stacks in a normal bag bug cart around enough mats to make another 20 stacks…. and I have jeeves just incase I run low on those mats…..
I used 1600 arrows on the first boss in 25M ToC tonight (the 3 beasts). 1600! Let’s say we had wiped twice on the final beast before clearing. That’s nearly 5 stacks of ammo on 1 boss.
Suddenly the paranoid ammo-collectors don’t seem so crazy.

Well it must be a hunter thing !!!! i tossed my ammo pouch to the bank and kept it for old times sack and used a frostweave bag instead however i keep this full just like my ammo bag instead except my enginner hunter as he can make ammo on the fly only 4 stacks at 1 time dam mining bag takes up one slot and the amount i mine takes up 3 bags space lol.
Easiest thing i do is keep a stack of 20 saronite bars and volatile’s there 20k worth of ammo in 2 slots plus i keep a 20slot bag full, as Fuka-nub says Eng FTW!!
Thank you for the post. I thought I had mental problems always keeping my 14 slot ammo pouch full of Mammoth Cutters and 5 stacks in my Frostweave so I can keep the ammo pouch topped off at all times. Now I know that it truely is a Hunter thang, lol.
Nope, dropped my ammo pouch ASAP. Now I run with 4 stacks of Frostbites and 4 stacks of Mammoth Cutters. The only thing that irritates me now is when I forget to switch from my cutters and end up burning a couple stacks running dailies.
Same thing here. I run with 28K ammos most of the time. And 20 flasks of Endless Rage elixir. And 20 fish feasts. Compulsive hunters FTW.

I can relate to the volley=broke gun scenario, happened to me in the middle of 2nd boss in Nexus, had to throw down a bot right away, only lost maybe 10 seconds fortunately. I got rid of my Dragonscale right away as well, keeping 3-8 stacks on hand is all that’s necessary when you can have Jeeves, Mole-E, or your Argent Gruntling all go fetch you ammo between pulls if you start to get low. Min/Max be damned, engineering=utility and convenience that keeps the dps rolling whatever the situation.
I have my 28 slot ammo pouch still. around 20K mammoth cutters for raiding and 8K Timeless Shells for heroics and general questing/grinding. No point in getting an extra bewag since i’d just fill it with ammo anyway and I wouldn’t be able to hold so much.
I have a question, you know how you have back up “slacker bullets” well why are the slacker? why dont you fill that slot with mammoth cutters? then you have 28000, and no crap bullets.
The reason is to keep me from running out mid-fight. If for some reason I completely forget to restock my ammo, I’ll eventually run out. Having another set of Mammoth Cutters in any back will only delay that — if I’m not paying attention I can still run out.
By having a stack of slacker bullets, my character will suddenly be unable to shoot when I run out of real ammo and I’ll get the “You must have ammo equipped” message. Then I can open my bag and equip the slacker bullets — and then I know I need more ammo pronto!
I can make ammo on the fly. I can retrieve it from the bank mid-raid (being engineer) but this is the only protection against running out in the middle of a fight, and still be able to shoot.
I still carry a quiver, but I don’t keep it completely full. I keep about 12 stacks of Sarontite Razorheads and another 8 or so stacks of cheap arrows just in case.
P.S. The stack of 411 is bugging me too. It should be moved.
Why aren’t you guys carrying dispensers? They carry 10 charges, which is essentially 2k bullets per 1 space.
