Patch 3.2

In this guide we’re going to take a look at the essential hunter addons – the addons that every hunter should have.

I’ve used a lot of hunter addons over the years, and one thing I’ve found is that a big patch is best test of an addon there is. When a major patch breaks every one of my hunter addons and I just don’t have the time or patience to reinstall them all — the ones that I absolutely have to instal before the raid are the addons that you know you need.

Essential Hunter Addons:

Recount
w-recount(Download Recount from Curse)
“/recount show” to activate

Recount is the quintissential hunter tool — the damage meter. Recount will display your total damage done, your dps, number of deaths, healing done, healing received… basically graphs of all significant combat stats. Further it lets you get a closer look at your damage to see how much damage each shot is doing, your crit and hit chances, your pet damage, and on and on. You can learn a lot by analyzing recount results.

Some people have problems with damage meters, arguing that they put too much focus on dps. I disagree. Without question there are more important things in fights – don’t pull aggro, avoid void zones, tranq shot - whatever the special mechanics of the fight are. Certainly small minded and selfish people can be encouraged by damage meters to ignore everything other than damage. But honestly, in those cases it’s not the tool that’s the problem, it’s the person who’s the tool.

We have one role in combat, and that is to do damage. A hunter who has no idea how much damage he or she does and doesn’t know where he stands compared to other dpsers is frankly unlikely to improve much. I consider recount to be the most important tool for improving and understanding hunter dps.

Omen
w-omen(Download Omen from Curse)
“/omen show” to activate

Omen is your threat meter. Omen will display a graph of the top threat targets, and will also make a loud explody sound that warns you if your threat is getting too close to the tank’s.

All classes need to understand how threat and aggro work, and everyone who raids should have Omen installed. When I hear people tell me how they don’t need omen because they know what they’re doing I want to punch them in the neck — because they are always the ones that end up pulling aggro.

And even if you don’t think you need Omen because of your intuitive understanding of threat and psychic knowledge of exactly how much threat the tank has compared to yourself at any given instant, keep in mind that your neck is very exposed.

Wow does have a built-in threat meter now, but it’s pretty basic. The simple threat bars (with numerical values) makes it very easy to know when you need to FD, and when you can keep riding that red line.

Power Auras
w-powerauras(Download Power Auras from Curse)
“/powa” to activate

I’ve used a lot of different addons to warn when your shots are ready, or your Lock & Load procs, or whatnot. Some of them were even made specifically for the hunter class. However Power Auras is without question the most robust and flexible I’ve seen, and frankly just puts the others to shame.

You can set up Power Auras to notify you of just about anything — when a shot is ready, when your Lock & Load or Greatness procs. You can choose what kind of graphic notifies you (or text), the color and size of the warning, whether it moves or is stationary, where in the screen it appears, what kind of sound – if any – accompanies it.

Heck, you can even have it notify you if you’re missing crucial buffs — my Power Auras setup puts a big MIGHT text on the side of my screen if I don’t have the pally might buff. And it will only put it up if I’m in a raid.

So Power Auras is just across the board a useful tool that you can use to any extent you want. It also lets you export and import other people’s Power Auras settings – if you want to import any of my settings, you can find them at Frostheim’s Power Auras.

Deadly Boss Mods
(Download Deadly Boss Mods from Curse)
“/dbm” to activate

Deadly Boss Mods gives you warnings of crucial moments in boss fights in raids. It lets you know when Sartharions lava waves are incoming, when the Twin Valkyrs are casting which ability, etc.

Deadly Boss Mods is essential for raiding; however, you only really need one person in the raid to have it since it announces over raid warning so everyone can see it.

PAWN
w-pawn2(Download PAWN from Curse)
“/pawn” to activate

PAWN is the best addon I’ve seen to compare gear. With PAWN installed, anytime you scroll over gear, you can see a numerical value of the gear that you can compare with your current gear’s numerical value, to see which is better.

The best part of PAWN is that it lets you enter your own EAP values for your spec, and it also lets you save different specs. So you could have MM and SV values, for example. The only thing that PAWN will not do is detect whether or not your are hit capped and adjust accordingly. However, I just make a second PAWN setup with hit rating valued at zero, as you can see in the screenshot.

I use all of the addons listed apart from the Power Aura one, which I might get, looks very useful. Thanks for this guide frost. :)

  2. Indy says:

Omen no longer reports only threat of people with Omen. It reports threat of EVERYBODY, regardless… and it gets the raw threat directly from the game, it doesn’t have to calculate it anymore. As a matter of fact, without Omen, the basic UI **can** display basic threat data, and if a person understands what they’re seeing, they really don’t need Omen anymore.

Two things to look at…. at the targetted mob health bar, a small box showing your threat percentage — as a hunter, obviously don’t push 100%. On *your* health bar, or rather around it, if you see a yellow glow, you’re getting high on some mobs threat list… and if there’s a red glow, you’ve pulled aggro on *something*.

Frankly, that bit of the blizzard UI is actually MORE useful than Omen in some ways… for AoE situations, for example. It would also probably be helpful for healers.

You’re a couple patches behind on your Omen evaluation. Once Blizzard put the actual threat data in the UI and api, it became both more reliable and less neccessary. I’ll note that I use both… I always run Omen, so I can see *where* people are on the threat list, and I pay attention to the Blizzard provided default UI threat, as well, as that tells me what Omen can’t.

  3. heddamazra says:

i haven’t tried power aura’s, but with mikscrollingbattletext i like the fact it tells me everything (lnl, etc) as well as wtf is going on. personal preference i guess, i prefer the text look :D

  4. Bozanimal says:

I’ve been using EventAlert as a kind of “PowerAuras for Dummies.” It’s not a versatile, but it requires zero effort and provides notifications for Lock ‘n Load procs, Kill Shot, and a couple MM shots in the center of the screen using the respective icon. Not pretty, but it makes up for it in simplicity if you’re time-strapped (or lazy).

  5. MrJackdaw says:

I use Skada Damage Meter instead of Recount as it also acts as a threat meter – and so no Omen is required. Everything in one neat package!

Can I also recommend OmniCC and Inline Aura? The first marks the cooldown of the ability on it’s button, and the second tracks the current targets buff/debuff countdown (or pets for mend pet). I find that really useful for all of my characters – not just my hunter.

My greatest worry with all this though is that I will become “cooldown” obsessed and let the rest of my game go to hang. I do find when I play my tank a lot when I come back to my Hunter I struggle to juggle all the myriad things in my head.

My solution, recently, was to STOP WORRYING ABOUT IT! I still pay attention, but no longer berate myself.

If I’m one second late casting Black Arrow does it make a huge difference? I was obsessed with hitting it just right. And now? I still come in the top three of any raid I have joined even though I am up against people with better gear.

  6. MrJackdaw says:

Oh and that “top 3″ is thanks to the advice from your friendly local Hunters Union!

  7. Omogon says:

I dropped omen when Blizz put threat on the health bars…..but I certainly agree with Recount and DBM and I will check out Power Auras.

I also second MrJackdaw’s comment…….I am hitting the top of dps charts ( but never close to Frostheim’s numbers ) and getting invited to pugs more and more because of great info on this site :)

  8. Eidotrope says:

I agree with Indy. I would not call Omen essential. I have it, but I rarely look at it since the threat detection built into Blizzard’s UI seems to be more useful. There’s a couple other addons I’d recommend, though:

If you want to avoid the self-loathing that comes any time you accidentally leave Aspect of the Viper up at full mana, ViperNotify is a good addon.

For debuffs and Lock ‘n Load I use NeedtoKnow. It takes up few resources and will track the durations of BA, SrS, LnL, etc. as screen-clamped receding bars. It is very useful if you want to track the effects rather than the cooldowns of abilities. Of course, maybe Power Auras does that too.

  9. Koonazz says:

I have one called Autotrack, it changes my tracking to whatever I am targeting. With this, I don’t have to manually change my tracking at each boss, just target the boss. The only downside is that if I change targets, and the new target uses a different tracker, the change tracking will take precedence over a shot if you are trying to shoot at the same time.

  10. Hrist says:

I don’t necessarily agree with your statement on DBM that not everyone needs it. Yes, you can announce to the raid the major things if 1 person has it but you miss out on a really nice feature that I use a lot; the Timer Bars. It really helps to be able to see when an ability is about to happen so you can be ready for it in advance when you need to and not just be notified when it’s happening. That extra 2-3 seconds is pretty useful at times.

I know that some bosses give you a “Boss about to do THIS SOON!” warning but, much like Blizzard’s usage, Soon™ is pretty relative each boss.

  11. Jehos says:

Instead of Power Auras, I use a tool called Watcher. It is *the* tool to use if you use priorities instead of a rotation. What it does is let you set up the priority of up to 8 abilities, and each of them can be hidden unless you are fighting a raid boss.

When you enter combat, you get a bar on your screen with the icons for however many abilities you set up stacked in priority order. When you fire a shot, the icon moves to the right of the bar, and starts working its way to the left as that ability cools down. When it gets to the left again, it’s ready to go.

I like this better than something like Power Auras, because instead of just seeing that a shot is off cooldown, you can see *when* something is coming off cooldown. You can also see what order your shots are coming off cooldown for the next few seconds, so if you need to fire while moving you can see what to shoot at a glance, then spend the next 5 seconds in motion watching your screen instead of your cooldowns.

I like it because it handles DoTs correctly. For example serpent sting counts down based on how long it is effective on your target, not how long until the cooldown is finished. It handles Lock n’ Load automagically because you’ll fire an explosive shot and see the explosive shot icon a GCD away on the bar.

  12. Arthemystia says:

Nice basic add-ons guide. Most of the comments that are in disagreement seem just a matter of preference (Scrolling battle text instead of Power Auras, Blizzard UI instead of Omen), but the point that you need something to monitor threat, or to inform you of various aspects of hunter-ing, remains the same. How you do that is, yes, a matter of personal choice, but Frost’s recommendations are good ones.

Koonazz, with the way they changed Improved Tracking, it’s no longer necessary to switch your tracking type to get the 5% damage increase. If you’re tracking *any* of the IT types, you get the damage buff against all of them. So tracking-switch add-ons can still be useful, but aren’t as necessary as they once were.

Jehos, most or all of what you described is also possible in Power Auras. I have mine, for example, set up to handle Serpent and LnL similarly to yours (or at least I did back when I was SV). Also, priority is just another way of saying rotation, since rotation doesn’t mean a set formula that doesn’t change. If you know what you’re doing, you’re casting the same shots in the same sequence, regardless of what word you use to describe it. But Watcher sounds similarly powerful to Power Auras, and both can likely achieve the same ends.

I may try ViperNotify. By now my entire raid knows the unique way I exclaim “F***” over vent chat when I’ve accidentally spent an entire fight in Viper.

    :-)

  13. Yorigrim says:

One thing about power auras. Instead of having the technicolor dream coat for your HUD, you can instead have it show you the icon for the item you are having it keep track of. HOWEVER, there is a small trick to this. After you turn it on to tell it to use it’s own texture, you have to actually go fight something. Once you use the ability once, it remembers from there after what the icon is. Until that time, it will just show blank even if you try to turn on the testing. It does work, it’s just a little flaky.

I figure I’d just throw this out there, because with multiple characters, remember what swirly is what thing is a bit of a PITA. What I find I need is something to tell me to refresh sunder before it falls off :) I’ve been getting better but this is by far the biggest loss of dps I have.

  14. Frostheim says:

I think there’s no comparison between Omen and the built-in threat meter. Omen is wildly better.

Also – while Omen tries to calculate threat of people without Omen – it does not do a terribly good job of it. The numbers will be wrong (lower) for anyone without Omen.

  15. Kazador says:

Frost, thanks so much for finally posting the Addon Guide, and thanks to everyone else for your suggestions here.
I know Power Auras can do many of the functions others are doing with a diversity of addons. Frost, would you consider making your Powerauras settings available to download? BRK did this in early 2009, but I suspect your power auras are more refined and up to date at this point.

  16. Omogon says:

Viper Notify ! More great info :) I am infamous for forgetting to take down viper and forgetting to loot the last boss on the daily :D

  17. Indy says:

Frost, you didn’t read what I said carefully. Omen doesn’t calculate anything anymore. It gets all threat data straight from a game API, and it’s accurate for everyone, whether they’re using it or not.

If you want to see what kind of threat everyone has on the mob, then sure, Omen is ‘wildly better.’ The basic UI threat is sufficient, however — if it’s paid attention to. Perhaps Omen is more likely to be watched by some people? As I said, I use both.

BTW, for viper watching purposes I like cAoV.

    • Dourne says:

One thing I like about Omen is being able to move it where you want so I don’t have to look all the way at the top of the screen. Also, you can tell how your pet is doing compared to other people (especially the tank), and you can use it to toggle abilities intelligently when needed. I don’t get that kind of feedback from the basic WoW info. I think they did a good job with it, I just like having the extra information available.

  18. Umbra says:

I have to disagree with everyone’s reliance on DBM. Theres 1 thing that people dont realize after they’ve used DBM for a long while. Those large raid warnings that flash in the middle of your screen? That’s actually WoW doing that or DBM just does the same thing. It is nice when it puts a mark on someone’s head if they get a certain ability, but this can actually hurt on fights like Yogg where theres at least a half dozen marks getting thrown around. And Blizzard has started putting their own marks on people for certain abilities. Like Anub’barak in ToC when he chases you underground. WoW puts a hunter’s mark on your head.
The only thing that’s really useful about DBM is the timers. And since a lot of the time those timers can be off by sometimes a little or even a lot, relying on them too much reduces your ability to react. At least that’s my opinion

  19. Hrist says:

In my entire history of using DBM I have seen it be off on only two bosses: Gruul for his Ground Slams and Anub’Rekhan in Naxx for his Locust Swarms. Every other boss has always been spot on for me.

  20. Frostheim says:

Indy – ah! I didn’t realize that! That’s fantastic news — knowing that Omen will be correct even for people that don’t have it installed is fantastic.

  21. quivering says:

i may give power auras another try, i use miks scrolling battle text for text alerts and such. i use coolline to monitor cool downs. recount and omen certainly a must. i switched back to DBM, i used to use bigwigs though. i scrubbed ratingbuster when i installed pawn.

  22. Valacia says:

Having finally installed Omen (at the behest of the threat guide here, TYVM) I just don’t care for the built in threat meter at all for anything other than AOE type stuff. I use Lunarsphere, so I can see all of my CDs down there and as such I am looking there already. I put omen down there with it and can easily tell at a glance when that pretty green bar steadily creeps up on the tank without having to think about percentages.

I have to say that the only add-on I don’t use in this list would be PAWN. How does it compare to Rating Buster? I like that Rating Buster shows both direct stat differences, as well as calculated values like RAP.

  23. Lum says:

DBM is the mod that allows you to set up a range window isn’t it (quite handy for some fights)? Don’t always expect a Might in raids even if you have a Paladin. If a spec doesn’t allow for Improved Might and your raid has a DPS Warrior, their improved shout will overwrite and remove Might, making it pointless to buff it as it will drop off if you ever are in range of the shout.

  24. Ancu says:

I am happy to see this post. I was excited when I heard it was coming. And I am glad to see that I was not disappointed. I am currently rebuilding my entire UI, and I think I will include all of these!

  25. Kaizen says:

It would be great if you could share your settings for Power Auras

  26. Vuliatis(Moon Guard) says:

I have very limited memory space for addons, so I actually only use one of the addons you have listed, and that’s Recount. Mostly it’s to help me know I’m having an off night and should really pick up the pace, or if I’m doing great. It also lets me know how fumbly I’m being against similarly geared Hunters, or if I’m at that magic gear level where I should hop over to MM yet.

Other than that… Everything else is either in game, or fairly unneccesary. Lock and Load procs? The game makes a noise for it, no need for big, flashy, distracty symbols. DBM? Everything it says, the game says. I ran it for awhile because my guild rabidly insisted it is the be-all end-all raiding addon that everyone needs… Again. Big, flashy, distracty. I stopped using it… Nobody noticed. Omen? Again, the game tells you. Get to 75% threat? You get a little yellow aura around your name. Finish what you’re doing and Feign Death. 100%? Red. Feign Death right this second. Omen’s big, flashy, distracty screen moving and noises might help some, but… Distracty. Maybe I’m just strange, but I find addons that make the screen flash/shake/wiggle/move oddly and make loud, intrusive noises/sound bytes(DBM is -horrible- for this with its “RUN AWAY LITTLE GIRL” crap) extremely distracting and they make me screw up in raiding situations… That and the oh so loved ‘timers’ are often off. Those few seconds count, when you’re waiting to do something important and it’snot right. So I have trouble understanding why everyone seems to think they’re neccesary for raiding ’cause I know I’m not the only one who does perfectly fine without them… I think the only thing about DBM I truly liked was the /rangecheck, but that isn’t too difficult to eyeball for the most common value of 10.

Other than these, I use one more tiny addon called ViperNotify, which puts up a system message(like a non-DBM boss emote or raid warning) in the middle of the screen in blue, and makes a nice, soft, unintrusive ‘ding’ if I have AotV on when I’m at more than 95% mana.

  27. Zidor says:

Awesome blog. Extremely informative and helpful.
I just have some noob-sauce question on Power Auras. Got it installed and working, but I can’t seem to get any of the auras to work – i.e., timer-based aura for SS, Lock and Load proc, even a reminder for being in Viper. If you could possibly share some basic info on how to get it to work it’d be great.

I’ve read several forums (some of them seem quite advanced because it’s mod designers discussing code), and the mouse-over tooltips aren’t helping me.

Any help or info from anyone would be awesome. Thanks

  28. Frostheim says:

Okay, hopefully today’s post with the Power Aura strings for most of my auras will get you started. Just import then and then modify as you like. Let me know if you still have questions.

  29. Zidor says:

Frost, you are awesome sauce. Thanks a bunch.

BTW, I was running through Durotar the other day and ran across two low-level troll hunters on the pathway. One named himself “AweseomeSauce”, and his companion was “FailSauce”. The influence of the WHU goes far and everywhere hehe

  30. Fradin says:

Dam i have all of these add ons except power auras and i find that with MM theres so many different shots coming off cooldown the auras would be constantly up . I use my mouse to shoot and my keyboard to move so even if the aura came up i would still need to look and my action bars to fire that shot off so i can not see this been a bonus for me maybe it would be different if i used the number keys to shoot hmmmm ?

  31. Frostheim says:

Um…. okay, forget power aruas — move with your mouse! No keyboard turning! (I’m serious – #1 skill should be mouse moving and finger shooting).

  32. Eidotrope says:

I think that would make for a good mini-guide, explaining the pros and cons of keyboard/mouse movement, good keybinding arrangements, etc. (I apologize if this has already been written on it and I missed it).

  33. Goar says:

    Hey Frost,
I like this post a lot, and I agree with your choices on essential hunter addons. I am currently running DBM, Omen, and Recount. I was not surprised to see these on your list. I have yet to try Power Auras but probably will in the future. I find that MiksScrollingBattleText does a pretty good job of telling me when something is ready. It does a pretty good job of keeping track of all my cooldowns, even telling me when my trinks proc. The only thing im not a fan of is where it pops up on my screen. I know this is easy to change, I guess I’m a bit lazy too.
One thing I would like to recommend, is an addon that I used when i first switched to SV and then again when I dual spec’d to MM. BackseatDriver is an addon that lets you know what shot priority to use based on what does the most dps and what is ready at that time. The only fault that I have noticed is that it won’t indicate the need for a Steady Shot in between Explosive Shots when Lock and Load procs. Other than that though, I think that it is a great help. You can find it like all addons on Curse. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.
    Goar of Truthiness, Misha Realm.

  34. Goshawk says:

power auras wont work? any suggestions? it says it out of date but i uploaded the newest version off curse

  35. Frostheim says:

Make sure your “Load Out of Date Addons” box is checked, and you should be fine.

  36. Dinos says:

Kharthus’s Hunter Timers is a must have as well :)

  37. cecchina says:

Great site, I am playing hunter on my alt and thanks to you I am learning loads of stuff…

Thank you for this guide, I am going to try Power Auras, which is new for me.

I found helpful using as well:
    - Kharthus’s Hunter Timers
    - Nudge (displays out of range, ranged or melee) or RangeDisplay
    - ZHunterMod
    - GFW HuntersHelper
    - GFW FeedOMatic
    - Scroll Combat Text
    - Announce It (send messages on events)

  38. Nightcrane says:

I have been playing a hunter for a hunter for a while now and thought i was progreessing quite nicely until i read came to this website. Damn i think i really need to catch up lol.

Never thought of recount as a calculator for dps and more of a “bragging rights tool”. will def get hold of it now :)

i use Omen, DBM (standard raid addons), to help keep an eye on my threat/watch for certain aspects of fights. will look at Power Aura and PAWN as they will help me in the long run to be a better hunter :)

    http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Nordrassil&n=Nightcrane

i know this may not be the best place to put it but any advice from my fellow hunters would be appreciative.

    Thanks again, Great Website

  39. Nightcrane says:

lol, sorry for the errors and spelling mistakes, but im at work and i would be slaughtered by the boss :)

  40. K says:

I love recount, but it uses so much of my computer resources that I get huge amount of lag in a raid. I stopped using it because of that reason. I try to get a combat log and then use WWS. Pretty much the same info, just not instant.

  41. I’m surprised something like NeedtoKnow or Fortexorsist isn’t up there. Those mods track DoT’s, particularly serpent sting. For all us survival hunters out there who don’t have some magic fangled chimera shot to refresh the sting, those mods are really handy to let us know when to refresh serpent sting.

I think fortexorsist is better in a way since it shows us how many ticks are left and when those ticks are going to land. Have fun setting it up though. Took me a few hours :) .

  42. Consort says:

    Hey all,

Is there an addon that depicts available shots on screen AND prioritises them for you?

I’m aware of the cooldown addon that flashes shots as they come off cooldown but is there something that works in conjunction with that and shows available shots (in order of customised priority) for you to mash?

Yes, I’m lazy…isn’t that what a lot of addons are about?

    Thanks in advance

    K

P.S Anti-Daze from curse is quite useful; it automatically cancels AotC to prevent further dazes once hit.

  43. Grundledoom says:

Recently, with your guided assistance, i’ve ramped up my skill sets considerably. So much so, that I found myself drawing aggro from time to time away from a flustered PuG tank or two (much to my dismay – and the groups). Omen is, unquestionably, my greatest ally at this time. Problem solved. TY again

  44. Tlord says:

I have not gone throguh all the posts here ( I’m at work can’t be caught :P ) but Autotrack or Autotracking works wonders..any hostile that u target, you will automatically switch to tracking it ( e.g. target a skeletal horror while you have humaniod tracking on, you will be switched to Undead ). This addon is made specifically for Imp. Tracking

  45. Balzer says:

@Umbra – I haven’t read through all of the posts yet so I can’t be sure if someone has already said this or not but if u type /dbm and look into all of the options theres alot more to it than most people might think. For one you can set it so that it doesn’t mark targets if you don’t like that. Also theres alot of helpful warnings outside of the timers that aren’t shown by the Blizzard raid warnings. Alot of these include things that aren’t happening to the entire raid but solely to you such as the Frost Fire or whatever its called on Lord Marrowgar in ICC. Yes I realize that you can actually see the fire but thats just an example.

  46. Kazador says:

    Hey Frostheim,

I love the hunter guides section of your site, and am constantly referring other hunters here, but I think the weak link in it is the addons guide. This guide covers the bedrock addons all hunters should have, but there are many more that are useful, which you mention in your different articles, but are never really named and explained well. Would you consider expanding the Addons Guide, and include a quick reference list of ALL addons that might be useful to a hunter’s DPS, with a sentence or two about what it does and why you do or don’t recommend it? For example, you have talked about addons that track the cooldown time remaining on trinkets, or that notify you of the time before your next autoshot, etc. Pawn doesn’t seem to be working in 3.3, can yo suggest an alternative?

Huntsmanslodge did a really comprehensive article on addons, but almost entirely focuses on cosmetics, not DPS optimization. http://huntsmanslodge.com/4238/the-garwulf-ui-v-3-0.htm

If you could take this idea and make a “Frostheim Goggles” version focused exclusively on DPS, that would be phenomenal.

Thanks for all the great work!

  47. Kryselyn says:

If you are using Power Auras, you don’t need Viper Watch or such. Power Auras can easily tell you if you are are in AotV while Mana is full. I have mine set up to show me when I have aspect of the viper on (at all) as well as show me when my mana is low and full while in combat. White glow when low, changes to blue when full, and an obnoxious hot pink halo around my toon when I am viper… I tend not to forget anymore just so I can get rid of that halo!

As someone else mentioned, RatingBuster is great for comparing gear for upgrades. It breaks things down by the stats so you can see at almost a glance if something would be an upgrade or not. Just make sure you remember the new gear isn’t gemmed/enchanted yet and factor that into your decision.

  48. Lee says:

Thank you for you website and the great guides you all post.. I have been using an addon called Spellflash and would like your opinion on that addon. Also I was watching your video on jumshots…unfortunately I cant master it (yet). Is that skill really necessary for MM and Survival? Thanks again.

I don’t use spellflash for a spec I know – it doesn’t seem to recognize macros anyway, so often distracts me from the macro I need to use.

I have, however, installed it to help me through the growing pains of learning a new spec. So untill I develop a SV rythm, I can always fall back on “clik the shiney button fast!” lol.

Just used power auras for the first time yesterday after playing my hunter at 80 for almost a year, and OMG it is awesome! I made it show a big pink thumbs up when I got the t10 set bonus so I knew to refresh serpent sting… Awesome!

has anyone ever used FloAspectBar? I find it helps free up some space on my action bars. It puts a bar next to your pet bar that has all your aspects. You can move it around and change what aspects you want displayed.

    Hi There,

Maybe you could help me :)

I keep on having a conflict while i set focus on tanks, it seems that there is something wrong with recount and the set focus, is there a way to have both working

    Cheers

I use all these minus omen and auras. Another helpful addon that I found is called “Hunter Misdirection Help”. I used to have a macro for it, but that addon actually creates a tiny box that once a target is selected you can press “add target” and you will be set up for md on them. Works great if the MT wipes and you gotta change up quick. or if you just wanna take out the healer that isn’t helping out with your pet ;P

and so, yeah, just got omen and idk how I raided without it before. Awesome guide.

I use misdirectionhelper too, very convenient, no need to open macro section every time!

Hi. I’ve tried to download recount manually. I followed the instructions faithfully but there was one problem i encountered, can’t find the addon at the lower left side of my screen before entering the world. Can anybody shed some light on me with regard to this problem?

I use recount & dbm which are very useful. I don’t use the others, but I do have cd timers on all Sig shots in both SV & MM spec, very useful but no idea where I got them from. For prompts on procs I use mikscrollingbattletext, fantastic addon just needs to take the time to set it up properly.

I have a very slow computer, so i usually leave all add-ons off except a select few. the only one that has not been mentioned here is GTFO, for those of you that don’t like loud noises while you play you may hate it, but the only function it has is to make a loud noise when you are standing in Fire, DnD, and all those other greats. I know that standing in fire is something that most have trained themselves not to to, but the great thing is it goes off about 2 seconds before the fire is on your position so you have time to move and not take damage.
