The Need to Achieve

Back at the WHU BBQ, Hrist was talking about some meta achievement that he wanted to get, which basically involved doing all of the heroic achievements. I told him I was in – after all, as much as I couldn’t care less about achievements, I do like doing challenging stuff.

Alas we found it incredibly difficult to get groups together for it, because no one cared about doing heroics. Obviously with Emblems of Conquest in the offering, that’s all changed.

So last night was 10-man raid night. With the Cheerleader recovering from elbow surgery and spirits generally low from the previous raid (due to a very small number of pansies) we didn’t have the turnout to raid even naxx. So instead Hrist and I formed our heroic achievement farming group!

Now I should point out that when Wrath came out, my sole focus was hitting 80. And when I hit 80 my sole focus was gearing up for raids. I had a list of the best gear to get before raiding and a list of what instances I needed to farm for that gear.

Obviously if someone needed a different instance I’d go help them with it – but left to my own devices I would only do the heroics that I needed gear from, and only until I got the gear I needed. Then I had better stuff to do.

So it was that I had the pleasure of going into the Halls of Stone for the very first time (and no, that’s not the only dungeon I’ve never been in) where we picked up every achievement in the place. Then we did Nexus, picking up every achievement there (Split Personality was hard). We missed a couple in Gundrak, and ToC pretty much requires you to just run it constantly.

But it was a good night, 17 emblems in a couple of hours.
