I get a lot of email from the WHU, and the emails pretty much cover the range that you would expect: requests for dps help and analysis (most common), questions about specific things not covered on the WHU, kind words about the site, requests and suggestions for new guides, and the occasional disagreement about WHU advice.

However, I recently got an email that just blew me away:

Hi Frost,

Love your blog and help hints. They’ve turned me into one of the best hunters on the server I occupy and have gotten me into one of the best raiding guilds on the server, as a core hunter now too!

Why am I so happy about the help your blog has given me? Well, I’m a Quadraplegic. The advice I’ve gotten here has made my role as a hunter so much easier and I’ve been spreading the word about your site.

Here’s my site explaining how I do things. Feel free to pass it around to help others with a similar problem. Its a work in progress and I hope to have video soon, but for now it’ll do.

Now I’m someone known in RL as being a heartless bastard with no feeling (Roommate refers to me as a robot) - but this email frankly touched my heart. Here is someone with very little use of his arms or wrists and no use of his fingers; he uses a modified trackball with one arm and with the other he has a pencil strapped to his wrist to push buttons.

And despite this Quadilious is a badass death dealer in an endgame raiding guild.

Quad's gaming setup.

Quad's gaming setup.

This is one of the things that I really like about WoW: most of the game is up here, in the head. It’s about learning about talents, and rotations, and gems, and gear and chants and glyphs. It’s about knowing and understanding the strategy for any given boss fight. It’s about having this knowledge at hand so when things go wrong you can think on your feet and take appropriate actions on the fly. Once you’re in raid you just apply all of that knowledge. Sure situational awareness and reaction time are factors - but to be honest, doing something once every 1.5 seconds isn’t exactly a blinding pace.

And whatever Quadilious lacks in physical ability, he has it where it counts. He’s done his research, he understands the game and his class. But moreso he has the determination to push through to not just succeed, but excel.  So don’t go telling me you’re ready to quit after the fifth wipe on a progression boss anymore. That no longer flies.

No email I’ve received has ever moved me like this one, and I’m just honored at his kind words, and I do believe Quadilious is my new hero.

I don’t think anyone anywhere is ever allowed an excuse for not performing in raids any longer. We’re agreed on that, right? Just ask yourself, WWQD?

Hell Yeah, Frost I am Totally with you on this one. Rock on Quadilious!!

  2. fyte says:

ahh , we’re a community of big softys really us hunters! Sounds like a nice guy.

  3. Jackfinished says:

From now on, when someone starts complaining I will just paste the link to that site and say, “Man up, Nancy”.
That player had an obstacle put in their way, not only did they beat it. They beat it into the ground and came out on top.

Hehehe, just thought of something Quadilious could be the posterboy for “Less QQ, more PewPew”

  4. Jackfinished says:

Quadilious, I am going to apologize ahead of time from the entire WoW hunter community-

We are sorry if we temporarily break your site!

This usually happens when popular blogs like WHU post to other blogs/sites. Used to happen on BRK alot, he would say “Go give this person some love” and the next day you would read about how we gave too much love, and the site was a smoldering ruin for a short time.

  5. Hrist says:

All I have to say is FUCK YES! I’ll freely admit I totally forgot about this about 30 minutes after our discussion on the weekend but reading this and taking in the info again really does start my week off right.

I have to agree with Jack as well. The next time people start whining about wanting to go elsewhere because we didn’t win right away I’ll just ask, “WWQD?”

    Suck it up, indeed.

  6. heddamazra says:

kick ass sir. keep topping those charts!

  7. Niadain says:

All I can say is DITTO! Q you rock!

  8. Axebrew says:

…and here I complain about having slow reaction times, lag, and having to play taxi for the kids. Thanks for the good dose of perspective. And sorry if we give your site troubles today.

  9. Jaedia says:

Check Quad’s website, not only is what he achieved very impressive but he seems like a funny guy too. Nice blog post ^^

  10. Rhamnousia says:

I am incredibly proud to be Quad’s guild leader. He’s not only a phenomenal hunter, but one of the most positive people I’ve met and one of the most liked and respected people in the guild.

    /salute

  11. Taly says:

I have ran and worked with Quad now for some time and respect him greatly he is a ausom hunter and would have him in my raids when ever i can i watched him grow from a starting raider to a asuom end game raider and he is in one of the best raiding guilds on our server if not the best and Quad sweety keep the cool macros for feeding the pet comeing LOL

  12. Arthemystia says:

Wow. Respect. Also, *love* his pet’s name.

    ;-)

  13. Dharthus says:

I thought I recognized your name…I’m on your same server Quad! I’ve seen u around and marvelled at your gear, lol. I’m even MORE impressed with you now, that I see what you’ve ovecome, to keep playing the game we all love!! Keep up the good work and I’ll see you around!

  14. the Cheerleader says:

i too want to salute Quad for striving to succeed in such a demanding keyboard game! Two snaps all the way!

I recently had elbow surgery, and now feel quite silly for having let my raid team down:(
    I mean … i am such a whimp:(

    /hangs head in shame

And… idk if we have ever asked to quit after only five wipes… it is usually after the two and a half hours of wiping dear:) and then… it is just to go to the next boss… :)

  15. Ripshot says:

As a fellow Hunter in the same guild as Quad,, I must say I;m quite proud of what he is able to accomplish with his disability. Quad continue to rock on and let’s put Arthas in his place!

  16. Korec says:

Really, the best thing about him is that he doesn’t let it get the best of him, he doesn’t let it get him down, he NEVER lets it get in his way. I have a few friends that complain about their aches and why they can’t play WoW, but man, hes just an awesome dude.

  17. Stokes - Balnazaar says:

Awesome. An inspiration to us all.

  18. Myrliandre says:

For some reason I feel compelled to link …

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unkIVvjZc9Y

    with the statement:

“#$@%!! spot on Quad!” (I’m assuming Quad also has a pig dog and sleeps with a bowie knife too.)

  19. Fradin says:

Wow man very impressive great to see your doing so well keep up the great work for the hunter community out there and better yet doing it with style . I can tell from the posts on here alot of people think the world of you and even the people you dont really know and WHU members are now even more inspired to do better your a true inspiration to us all.

  20. troublewithtribbles says:

I don’t know, Frost, it’s getting harder and harder to prove that whole “heartless robot bastard” thing I hear you referring too so often. I dare say I detect a touch of empathy, if not some honest to goodness kindness under that crusty hunter’s heart of yours.

Quadilious rocks! and truly, he is an inspiration. But so, my friend are you. You’ve helped many of us to be better at what we do. Quad speaks the truth.

  21. the Cheerleader says:

    well said Tribs! cheers:)

  22. Whuumper says:

Ditto the above you uber hunter Q…

  23. Arthemystia says:

Frost isn’t an inspiration, tribs. He’s just doing this for the chicks.

…on second thought, that IS an inspiration.

    /salute

  24. Kiramaren says:

Wow my mind is totally blown, hats off to you Q and Frost, you guys are both amazing…
And you live in my city and i’m not talking about Dal! Wow it feels like a small world afterall!

  25. Quadilious says:

When I’m asked a hunter question, I give the best answer I can that always contains the phrase “but warcrafthuntersunion.com explains it much better than I can” which is truth. The hunter community (much maligned and ridiculed) has gone through quite a nerf beating over the years and has needed a spot where we can feel safe in our discussions about our class. Thank s Frost for providing that haven and Thank you to everyone for your kind words.

  26. Frostheim says:

Hey Quad — you need to register to the WHU! Click the log in link on the header in the upper right.

  27. KahliTorah says:

This is so amazing. I am so using that the next time i’m in a pug and everyone starts bawwing about wiping twice. Quit QQ’ing and think, WWQD! Truely an inspiration. This guy should be on TV or something. So many people complain about thier handicaps and tell you what they CANNOT do. This guy doesn’t care about what he can’t do, but takes advantage of what he CAN. That is true strength right there.

  28. Ancu says:

As much as I respect and agree with most of what has been posted here, I do have to say that dial-up pretty much kills end game raiders. I am pretty good about dealing with lag and multiple DCs within a raid, but I cannot even go from Dala flight point to VH. And when I log back in, it kicks me before I can hearth. So in all truth, the only excuses for not raiding are dial-up and apathy.

  29. Vael says:

Great article about Quad on WoW.com today (October 27th), and a very nice shout-out to WHU, as well. I was like, “where do I recognize that name? Oh RIGHT – from my fave hunter blog…”
Keep up the great work, big ol’ Tauren hunter! ;)

  30. Gandor says:

    Quadilious,

Is that Mount & Blade on your screen <3 that game. Such a sleeper, if someone would perfect that concept it would make gaming history.

Great video, what I don't understand though is why a Tauren. Dwarves may not be as big as Tauren but we lack in size we make up with out beards.

Keep up your site and the good work man.
    -Gandor

  31. Quadilious says:

Lol, I took a Tauren becuase when I first started Wow, I was big into the BG’s. seemed like a good idea at the time. As for the screen, that game was a FPS called “Delta Force: Blackhawk Down” helped me and the mrs develope my style/system of playing the transfered better than expected to WoW.

  32. Duranth says:

Quadilious, I have to admit it is good to see a person that can enjoy the game for what it is, with your dogged determination and eagerness to improve and share info without being a blowhard. I have been quietly reading and studying this site, pointing many people to this site myself and agree on you opinion of this place.

I like to try and understand the basics and mechanics of the each class, BM Hunter if which holds the warmest memories, was the first type I Of character I started with.

Delta Force:Blackhawk Down was the game I was into just before I got hooked on WoW about 3 years ago =) ….. Still miss it at times, had a charm of it’s own!
