10 man raid night.

In general it was a smooth night. Lost some time explaining all of the fights to someone new to Ulduar, but generally nice progress for the first night of the week. And if there’s anything last night taught us, it’s that there is no connection between performance and Hrist’s hate.

Now, to be fair, we certainly had some people egging Hrist on. It’s like poking a rabid skunk. There’s no way that’s going to end well — but it’s really funny if you’re just watching from a safe distance.

Right off the bat Hrist wants to be sure the new raider has read up on the strats:

w-stratsThis quickly goes poorly as a regular who has been there almost every night discusses his philosophy of never reading the strats…

This nameless raider also has a crummy computer on which he cannot see spell effects. This causes problems moderately often.

I wanted to get some footage of Kologan for a beginner’s guide video on jump-shotting. The eye beams move so slowly on this fight that it’s borderline boring to run from them. Certainly there’s nothing better to do than jump-shot while you’re moving. I asked Hrist for a 10-second warning before the pull, and he just charged in. When I brought it up (after the wipe) he said that he did count to 10 in his head.

No one cares about jump-shotting indeed! Let’s see what I say say next time he asks me to kite something!

Okay, I’ll say yes. But I’ll be thinking something sarcastic.

We finished Kolo and moved onto Auriaya, a new boss for us that we had just a couple of attempts on last week. Hrist suggested a slightly modified strat, which sounded great to me. Now, one of the keys of this fight is that she does a frontal cone aoe that does damage divided by the number of people hit by it. Thus the goal is to have everyone get hit, so that the damage is small and manageable.

At any rate, it ended up as a good night. We did Leviathan+1 for the first time. It was sloppy as all hell, but still a one-shot. Then we cruised through XT, took a few attempt to beat Kologarn, and then one-shot Auriaya, a new kill for us. We managed to clear up to Hodir just at our quitting time, so we took a shot at him, then went over to take another shot. He’s gonna require some getting used to!

  1. Hrist says:

I am still in awe of what Swamp Chick and Tree did at the end of the FL+1 fight. Super good stuff.

  2. Yorigrim says:

We have had epic finishes like that as well. It’s amazing what a little system override can do to make it possible :)

“dont make me taunt you a second time”

    ha! what a great line.

I did Hodir for the first time last night and managed to get the hard mode achievement Normal: You Could Say That This Cache Was Rare
We decided to only use one tank (pala) and 2 healers, we then had 4 melee (druid 2DK 1 shaman) 1 caster (lock) and 2 hunters (one of which was me).
This allowed us to get some awesome dps on the boss, No dps below 3k and having blood lust is essential. We carried on and downed a few more, decided against hard mode on Thorim though.
Now have Mimiron,Vezax and Yogg Saron to do on Monday.
Dual speccing really has opened a lot of options on the dps front, now we can switcha tank to help.
Our guilds 25 man progress is going a lot slower though, it doesnt help that we came up against the combat bug after leviathon meaning we were all locked in combat :( bring on soft reset and the next raid evening

I was doing my best even knowing that there was “Drama” at home. For having not been there, I didnt wipe us, which is a good thing, right?

Offtopic: Our guild tried Mimiron in Uldu25 for the first time tonight and I gotta say that whatever Blizzard thinks about Mimi being hard on pets, is total bs.. I guess the only possible way you could get your pet killed is to not call him back when the boss starts casting the whatever-Shock. Since DBM shows this, keeping the pet alive proved out more than easy. Even so, we didn’t make it tonight, since ranged dps miraculously died during P3 and P4, and eventually I was the only DPS nuking the head. However, a fairly easy fight in my opinion; P1 and P3 are trivial, and in P2 ppl just need to spead out so that the raid dmg is minimized. Will go down on tuesday…if we have enough to raid! :)

GO GO hodir is easymode!!!! just dont have a bunch of nubs getting frozen and truly it is easy.
Downed mimiron on 25 man 2 nights ago and then on 10 man last night, both times went very smooth. I normally end up tanking the head unless we got a boomkin to do it. Either way that fight is pretty easy if people just pay attention and READ THE STRATEGYS which are different then doing the actual fight you know!
