I talk a lot about various WoW people in this blog. Many of them are in my 10-man group, most are in my guild, and more than a few are just freaks. I thought it might be worthwhile to have a resource on this site explaining who all these people are. So, in no particular order, here are the people that I talk about:

Frostheim
Me, your stalwart guide, boon companion, and dps whore. Frostheim sees the world through dps-colored goggles. These Frost Goggles ignore things like emotions, feelings, and all the little joys and triumphs that make you who you are and just see the bottom line contribution to raiding success. Always remember the Frostheim Goggles when considering Frost’s opinion of, say, everyone he’s about to talk about. Frostheim believes in science, and does not understand those who don’t.

Arust
The other blog owner, a die-hard MM hunter. Frostheim and Arust have a simple, balanced way of splitting the WHU duties: Frost handles all of the backend technical stuff, the software, the search engine optimization, upgrades, addons, etc. To balance this, Frost also writes 95% of the articles. Arust once metaphorically kicked Frost in the balls when the WHU experienced a large traffic spike one day, and Frost tracked it back to a link on WoW Insider… specifically a link to one of Arust’s Achievement Guides, of all things. Arust is an elf, and spends his time molestering woodland animals, like most elves.

Hrist / The Hate Tank / The Haterade
A warrior tank, Hrist is known as the Hate Tank or the Asshole Tank for obvious reasons. He does a decent job of suppressing his natural rage and disdain for everyone for the benefit of leading raids, but of course he doesn’t try too hard at it. Of everyone in the guild, Hrist is the only one who sees the world through similar goggles as Frost (though less dps oriented). Feelings are unhelpful, illogical, and ultimately irrelevant.

Hrist’s witty repoirte, snarky comments and plain, undisguised hate have provided substance for so many WHU articles that I had to create an entire Hrist section. Hrist describes himself as Frost’s platonic life partner. Also, he’s an elf.

Arthemystia
Arth was a longtime WHU reader who started spending a lot of time trying to tank heroics with his pet. Arth was eventually tapped to write a series of pet tanking articles for the WHU, in our continuing effort to cover every aspect of hunterliness. Frostheim harbors a vague suspiscion that Arthemystia actually lives somewhere somewhat near him IRL, probably by a large body of water.

Myrliandre
Known as the Macro Master, Myr is a die-hard BM hunter from way back in the vanilla days. With a solid respect for science, no one really knows why he clings to his BM hunter ways. In addition to being an elf, he is also and Aussie, which is reason enough to hate him.

Party Girl
Someone Frost met at a party who then was subsequently assigned the unfortunate moniker of Party Girl. An altoholic, she rerolled on Frost’s serve, and leveled to 80 in under a month. This is just disturbing as all hell, and Frost now wonders where the hell she went after leveling. The whole point of running her through those dungeons was to get her to heal in raids, after all.

Mana Battery
The badass ret pally of Frost’s 10-man team. Though I always beat him on the damage meters, deep in my soul I’m bitter that he contributes more dps to the raid than I do. In addition to great dps, all his crazy pally buffs probably add up to bring more extra dps than is provided simply by our combined meters :(

Cheerleader
Every group has to have one of these. Perpetually cheery and optimistic, incapable of letting the rage flow through her veins, it’s probably a good thing that she’s a healer. Also one of those freaks that carries around 250 Fish Feasts to drop non-stop during raids. Not that we’re complaining mind you. Just saying it’s strange. Very strange.

Badass Mage
The other dps leader of our 10-man is our badass mage. Nothing is scarier than having this guy creep up on my ass during Patchwerk.

Cocky Mage
And on again/off again raider throughout WoW, he has occasionally left the guild, or even when in the guild has raided with other guilds. He goes wherever the loot is, making him perhaps even more mercenary than ourselves. We feel some strange loyalty to our teammates that does not burden him. At the last WHU BBQ he was handing out autographed photos of his character. Seriously.

Swamp Chick / Geriatric Healer
Another freak of nature that found its home in the body of the healer, this priest starts out every raid by handing out appropriate flasks to every one in attendance. Now again, we love this to death, and we love her to death for it, but I think we can all agree this is not normal behavior. Also, she’s the oldest member of our group. She refuses to tell us her exact age, but estimates place it somewhere over 90 years old. Possibly over 150.

Commie Tank
What can I say, other than his blood runs redder than ours. Brother to the Cheerleader.

AFK Rogue
Earned the nickname in our Kara days. It was quite a sight — I’d be standing there, shooting away, and I’d look to the side and there was the rogue just standing there next to me. “Now this isn’t right…” I thought. Lately he’s taken the step of announcing “afk” when he abruptly leaves in the middle of trash pulling, or the occasional boss fight. Also has a host of alts to fill whatever need the raid may have.

Roomate
Frost’s non-WoW playing roomate, who occasionally pops into the computer room. I try my best to explain to her what’s going on in terms she can understand. It’s an interesting communication challenge, particularly when my answer is something like “I’m picking carrots so I can make some meatlof for this person…”

Who Else?

And who knows who else will pop up from time to time. Now, most of these people aren’t mentioned often. In fact some of them have only appeared on the dps meters I post.

But the real question is: who do you want to hear more about?

  1. Arthemystia says:

I like Myr. BM is the ultimate in simplicity, and the macro insanity, once properly implemented, must make his WoW life the most deliriously one-button picnic ever.

Soulless devotion to dps: good. Soulless devotion to leisure: better? Now demand that Blizz make us a smoking jacket to wear during raids.

  2. Bella says:

I dont know if i want to know anymore Frost:D

My question is … when and why did Hrist become so .. so… so… Hrist-ish

  3. Thor says:

I like Myr. A fellow Aussie. Though his love for BM and not SV has disheartened me terribly. I too see the world in two categories. My DPS, and things that benefit my DPS. =D

  4. Pursuit says:

I like Arust am die hard MM. I don’t care what anyone says, and I never will. Science be damned! I would like to read more about why he prefers this spec which we both refuse to deviate from.

  5. Frostheim says:

I think he won’t deviate because he’s deviant.

  6. Hrist says:

I dunno. When did you become so…so….Cheerleaderish? :)

  7. Ché says:

I want to hear more about Party Girl and Roommate. Party Girl because it sounds as if things haven’t even really started with her yet (once she hits 80 will she really be able to resist starting another character?) Roommate because trying to explain WoW to a non-WoW person can be hilarious.

  8. Garson says:

Explaining WoW to a non-WoW person is extremely difficult. The best part as you try to explain the intricate world of WoW to a non-WoW person and you are getting more excited as they start to get glassy eyed and are wondering, “He seemed so normal, what happened.”

WoW is difficult to explain and impossible to understand unless you are dealing death to random humanoids, beasts, dragonkin, elementals, etc. They will never get it so I stop trying and go back to laughing at the non-believers with my guildes.

  9. Purp says:

How can people be so foolish?
If you’re a hunter dps is it. That is your life. Nothing else.

  10. Mason says:

    I love Hrist.

  11. quiv says:

party girl, mainly cuz i get “party all the time” by eddie murphy stuck in my head

and for those people you youtubed it and are now singing it, youre welcome.

  12. Arthemystia says:

I can understand being enticed by the RP elements of WoW, which is why some likely stick with certain pets/specs/etc. Different way to play, of course, though it’s certainly at odds with raiding regularly. I had to have my heart removed and replaced with a dps meter before I could part with my pre-80 pets. But then again, I’m an elf, so it was harder for me than the naturally-heartless dwarves.

    And thanks quiv. :-D

  13. Myr says:

Why does Myr stick to BM?

…. Originally it was the challenge of proving a disdained spec could be used successfully in raids — Taking a BM build into MC and topping damage charts in spite of people saying you couldn’t raid with it was a hell of a lot of fun.

Simplest Spec to play? … nah with the right macros BM requires 5 buttons, MM requires 4 and doesn’t need to monitor DOT timers — MM wins as the “snooze train.” (BM also has to micro manage the pet a little more due to the risk of losing it being so high). MM also has more freedom to move due to the instant shots.

BM is the spec least affected by bad latency? it’s true, but it’s not really the reason I stick with BM.

I’m sticking with BM right now because, right now, the hunter class is broken. Making sweeping changes and jumping through hopes just doesn’t appeal to me when I know there is a major re-write of the hunters “just around the corner”. That logic seemed fine 2 months ago when it was s’pose to be 3.1 … now I’m getting less and less certain as we go further without seeing any real response to the state of hunters in PvE.

… that being said … I’ve been keeping “total damage” accounting running since MC, and I’ve still got breathing space before Frost catches me, do I’ll live off “banked dues” for a little longer. :-)

    PS: …. I don’t know why Forst didn’t include the portrait I sent him … http://farm1.static.flickr.com/180/430064413_a5a34e6528.jpg?v=0

  14. Myr says:

    PPS:
if they keep doing things like this:

    Surival
    * Lock and Load now has a 2/4/6% (Down from 3/7/10%) chance to proc from periodic damage.

won’t be worth speccing SV either ….

    /wrists

    Myr.

  15. Bandwarm says:

I always wondered why AKF Rogue was doing more than zero damage

  16. Heedlife says:

Hey, why have I not earned a spot on the list, I feel hurt and disheartened :(

Well I guess it could be the lack of raiding I now do with you

But I am needed to be the token hunter in other raids and top their dps charts in honor of you :P
Unless Ildirin is there, then I just give up

  17. Yorigrim says:

Heedy, Heedy, It’s easy to deal with the pesky DK. Just MD to him on the pull. >:D

  18. Neven says:

Well, its official! my web blocker at work has officially blocked this website, which means you are now on the official “games” catagory for most major web blockers at peoples work.

    I rate that poopy.

  19. Ashamel says:

I vote more from Arust! 1. He’s diehard MM like me. 2. He’s a Night Elf, like me.

Oh, and more from Hrist… always great to hear more about fellow Texans.

And in reply about trying to describe WoW to the Roomate… Describing WoW to non-WoWers is like trying to describe D&D/any other pen and paper RPG to most WoWers or the ordinary masses… makes you sound crazy as hell while people start backing away. Slowly.

  20. Ashamel says:

Btw, this post was made on my birthday, lol! Another year for dpsing the hell outta things.

  21. Hal says:

I would just like to point out that Jon has run me through way more dungeons than you have.

  22. quiv says:

me to, neven, me to. i had a good 25 minute cry when i learned this.

  23. Tenno says:

im totally with u myr, i just recently gave up surv for bm

  24. AFK Rogue says:

AFK Rogue!? thats the best you can come up with for me? At least Hrist had the idea to call me Captian AFK once or twice but if AFK Rogue is how I am known so be it at least I am known in someway which is more then some can say this is my first time on here and I enjoyed it thoroughly Frost and Rusty keep it up!

  25. Burazaazu says:

For someone who “ignores things like emotions, feelings, and all the little joys and triumphs that make you who you are and just see the bottom line contribution to raiding success,” you have a good sense of humor. XD

  26. Meg says:

    LoVe you all!
Didnt know in which area to leave this comment but the WHOLE website is a winner!
Have put so many ppl onto WHU because it has helped me so much with my Hunter and her Cats
    Thankyou *big smile*

  27. Plunk says:

    Myrliandre quit?
i search in armory, to see some nice BM hunter, but i dont found.

  28. Vascilli says:

When do we get to read more on “The Commie Tank”?

  29. Yukayoh says:

Yeah i want to know about the delicate and complex relationship that must have build up between Hrist and the commie tank, considering my main is a tank i know how stressed the MT – OT relationship can get. And i have to give a shout out to Myrl as a fellow aussie, and just a fan of his pure aussie determination to take the BM spec (what was considered inferior) and consistantly lead the charts with it. Thats the underdog mentaliity that makes us aussies so great XD

  30. Katie says:

Hey, thank you for such a great site! Keep up the good work!

    sincerely,
    Wuteva
    Blackrock

  31. acaveman says:

what kinda dps does your hunters do in 10m

  32. smilly says:

I stumbled on this site by accident. and it seems rather impressive. So I have a question as a hunter. I just learned that I need to get my Miss chance dwn to 0% and I don’t have a clue as to how to go about it. any ideas?

  33. Sofeladese says:

    Tapington needs an entry here.
