I managed to sneak some time to join my 10-man group last night for our very first foray into Ulduar.
Naturally the first thing you have to do is climb into some vehicles and clear a ton of trash with your vehicles, then fight first first boss with your vehicles. If you leave the vehicle, you’ll die very quickly. And your vehicle has it’s own abilities (different for driver and passenger) and in general functions nothing at all like a character. You don’t even have normal WoW targeting. It is the revenge of Blizzard’s vehicle combat system.
Now, I did Strand of the Ancients and thought the siege engines were cool and fun and different. It was a cute little difference in how to do stuff. Of course if I really want to pvp I go to a different battleground where I can actually play against other players.
Going into Ulduar in the vehicles felt more like a retarded five-year-old’s attempt to create a first-person shooter than it did World of Warcraft. You move in slow motion, turn sluggishly, and have to crudely aim your weapons. This is now what WoW is. And damnit, I’ve spend a lot of time learning how to play my character well. It’s annoying to lose every ability, including simple things like turning, strafing, and jumping while also trying to learn a new dungeon.
Anyhow, so I hate Blizz for forcing the vehicle combat system on us like this. Make it an optional boss — not the gateway boss to get to the rest of the dungeon.
However, we did make it to Flame Leviathan and we one-shotted him on our first attempt, despite not really knowing what we were doing. We then made our way to Razorfang and made a couple of attempts at her, getting her down to phase 2, but didn’t drop her in the time we had.
You might have got him if you had gone with your old pal, Hrist! Replacing me with some new hotness didn’t work out too well I guess!
(The Below May be overkill, but you gotta nip this sort of Behavior in the butt and nip it hard and early, otherwise BRILLIANT developers are slipped up by rudimentry FACT and RULE)
I hope these Vehicle Sequences don’t become a common occurence due to the blind thinking its a novel experiance by conforming to the ancient pattern of FPS sequels . Vehicle Combat has NO place in MMO’s, the games UI is platorm specific, bastardising the interface further seems to completely irrelivate going threw the trouble of getting gear to tackle a boss with your toon…. could have been a perfectly good boss there, with some fun new abilities to inspire DPS’ers, Healers, Tanks to push harder… not stick em in a volvo stripping them of all diversity.
Player based Cities… THATS an Immersive introduction of multiple Genre aspects relevant to the play style experiance of MMO’s(Progressive Play also seen in RTS’s) … People wouldnt play WoW so long if immediate gratification was a factor… its amazing like it is, don’t ruin it with this… please.
MMO’s are expansive… we use mounts to speed things up, they are never well done, they are just faster than walking…Maybe Mount Customisation like your toon is a good idea …instead set Armor for each mount… that drops similar to toon kit.
Since when did night elves drive tanks??
I’ve not tried it yet but it sounds uber fail…
Grats on getting Flame Leviathan down in a one shot!
i enjoyed the fight, but not as a raid boss fight. seemed out of place. create a thing were 10 mans have to go in and do a bunch of vehicle style pve battles, it would be more fitting. i dont like vehicle fights in the middle of raids (see malygos)
I had a lot of fun driving my siege tank around and my gunner was BAD ASS. It was cool watching him take shit out while I drove another way. Apparently you forgot what’s at the bottom of the place where the IF BGs queue. :p Quit yer whining or we’ll kick you out of the dwarf club.
And yes, malygos isn’t fun. However this felt different to me.
We took him down the third time around and failed hard on the colossi ( that the plural ?) . Then we thought we’d try Razerfang and fail. Sleep shortly followed.
@bloodstyle
Wow, you only thanked him a 10,000? not a “thanks a million”?
Frost is not usually worth the million (he is usually going out of his way to try and get me killed off) but he should at LEAST be worth 100k.
@ Neven
The economy is bad, didn’t you know? Who in their right mind can afford to give out 1,000,000 thanks… it wouldn’t be fiscally prudent.
Golgat from Maelstrom
With regards to hit rating, every hunter should try to cap hit at 263 by equipping gear/ weapons/ trinkets that provide hit rating. If possible, avoid using gems, enchants, and talent points to achieve ur hit cap.
I understand that it can be difficult to obtain all of the gear necessary to do so but wasting gem sockets, enchantments, and worst of all talent points on capping hit are all ways of gimping ur own dps.
Check me out on the Armory (Alphius on Smolderthorn in Rebirth) for an example of PVE gear choices and a max dps spec for this purpose.
WTB Explosive shot Glyph please!
Btw Frost, you do a wonderful job providing and maintaining this site. I wish more hunters knew of it because the information it contains is purple. =) Long time reader 1st time poster.
Frost i love ur site but i was wondering if u could mabey find out the best pvp spec bc iv tryed tons but none of them seem to do it for me
Thx
Its a first, the pinata loot boss of this new dungeon is right at the start. Maybe they just wanted to get it out of the way?
It did serve as a reminder of who the diminished capacity players in my raid were. Its sad when selfish players pull everybody else down. Anybody have a clever name for greedy loot whore mages who prioritize their vehicle choice over raid survival? Hows “Strudel Stroker” sound? I’m not sure anything matches being called a huntard, but maybe that’d be close.
/vent
Yes, we call that: Neven.
One thing I liked about the whole vehicle combat is working in tandem, both driver and gunner. Granted, perhaps it didn’t belong in WoW, but it was fun. Perhaps Frost’s biggest grief for the system is either his choice of gunner (or lack…. I can’t remember which vehicle he drove.) But the Druid Only Demolisher was awesome!
siege driver 4 life
Razorscale not razorfang. to many bosses with razor in there name.
My casual guild got the Leviathan down on our 3rd try, maybe? That was after our brilliant Pally reaid leader noticed that “Hmmm, he has WAY more hit points that he was supposed to. And lookey, there are these funny buffs showing up under his name…”
But yeah, once that was err, taken care of, we did OK. I was grooving on the motorcycle, and although I’m certainly glad that all of WoW isnt this combat style, it was a fun for all of us to be loaded up and charge in, Mad Max-style!
I, too, dislike the vehicle comabt system Blizz has forced us to incorporate into our game play.
If you want an FPS, go play an FPS, don’t force this vehicular behavior down our WoW throats.
I’ll be back later, gotta go pewpewpew some stuff in bg’s and listen to the constant “OP” and “Huntard” remarks. Lawlz
