So I wandered into the battlegrounds a little bit recently. I used to play them quite a lot in BC, when the PVP gear (arena in particular) often surpassed raid gear. With the pvp gear pretty much sucking horribly in wrath, I haven’t spent much time there.
Whether from nostalgia or curiosity, I finally went back in for a solid handful of bgs. I die a lot faster than I used to, which seems fair enough with my lack of resilience gear, but otherwise the bg experience seems pretty much unchanged.
AV is dull and boring because if you’re actually focused on winning, you probably aren’t actually fighting other players. Hunters are about the worse possible class for defending or taking towers, which is the only really logical time to pvp outside of a turtle. Also, Alliance usually wins, which isn’t really worth the boredom.
WSG is still godawful and way way longer than it should be, especially considering how little reward you get for it. The narrow corridors still suck for hunters. I miss big red pet in WSG the most. As it is a game that relies on coordination and healing more than any other, Horde usually wins.
EotS is still big fun, and probably my favorite. Just always lots to do, and always good fights to get into. Alliance seems to usually win, which doesn’t make much sense, since you’d think EotS would require more coordination than others. I’ve noticed that Alliance seems to be better geared overall, and have more dpsers. Alliance has very, very few people actually willing to heal in a battleground.
And finally Arathi Basin, which was the daily. Pretty much a 50/50 thing historically, but not on the day I was playing. Most games the Alliance gets off to an early start, but then no one is willing to stay and defend anything, and the horde takes over. Then it’s a tough battle to the end. I understand why people don’t want to defend — nothing’s more boring than spending an entire game sitting at a flag no one attacks. But it’s just gotta be done.
Anyhow, I never did win by Arathi Basin; however, the last game I was in I did spent a lot of time defending the Blacksmith, which was under constant assault, and managed to cross the 1 million mark for damage done! Woo! Also picked up various achievements (not sure what most of them were) including Arathi Basin Assasin.

do you use the same spec in pve and pvp?
who cares about PvP? lol. what are the best glyphs for raid dps?
Some people are into more than raiding, Trev. And since Hunters really only have a single raid purpose (dps) it’s occasionally nice to break the trend with something different, since we can’t jump to heals or tanking in raids.
Sucks about the gear, though. I’d like to see at least 1-2 PvP pieces that trump raid gear, but there really isn’t anything.
Grats on the DPS. I’m not into pvp’ing much myself (even though im on a pvp server) but when I do I often find my raid spec lacking. Is there one tree/spec better than the others for pvp, or is it all in how you play that effects how well you do?
There are certainly pvp specs; however, I do not mess with them. I just do bgs in my raid spec, with my raid pet.
As opposed to Arenas, battleground normally give you a good amount of room to maneuver and stay away from the enemy. At that point all you want to do is the max damage possible. When the enemy closes in with you, is where your pvp skill comes in. And pvp skills are completely, radically, a different skillset than raiding or soloing.
Pew pew? Isn’t that and Eve online thang? you could have used the word boring a little more.
Other than that I agree with you, what’s up with the battle grounds? In my battle group it seems to take forever to get in and when you do, alliance is out numbering the horde at least 2:1.
Are all the battle groups this way?
Thanks for the hunter union, I really enjoy it.

HUNTERS ROCK
I have four hunters, spread over four servers, love to pvp. My favourite is my Tauren hunter very good with racial for pvp, but been working on my latests hunter a Blood Elf.
I use the same spec with all of them for PvP, the best is for me, BM 54 and Mark 17.
Now that we can do dual talent trees, I use surv 51 and mark 20 for pve. Tough are survival hunters, but with my pet active I find more often than not, I can easily kill a surv pvp hunter.
Health and the ability to be feared less or stunned really help for pvp. Beastial wrath along with a trinket and I can last most fights on the BG’s. Rogues of course are still an issue, but if you can get clear of them, easy and dead targets.
