So it looks like a sneaky patch 3.0.9 is going live this week. On it are… omg? Could it be? BM hunter buffs?
Indeed:
- Kindred Spirits (Beast Mastery): This talent now grants 20% pet damage at max rank.
- Serpent’s Swiftness (Beast Mastery): This talent now grants 20% pet attack speed at max rank.
This revokes two of the three major BM nerfs from patch 3.0.8. Both these talents are going back to their previous levels of awesomeness, leaving only the Unleashed Fury talent as a BM-specific nerf.
So we’re gonna call this one a very embarrassing “Oops!” for Blizzard.
Does this mean that BM will be back on top?
We’re not sure. BM still suffers from the Steady Shot nerf and the -5% to pet damage from the Unleashed Fury nerf. Meanwhile Survival still is benefiting from their Explosive Shot buff.
The un-nerf to BM was certainly warranted if Blizz wanted BM to be a viable raiding spec, and pet-lovin’ x-BM hunters the world over will rejoice.
If I had to guess, I’d say that BM and SV will become something of a toss-up, with MM sitting lonely on the bottom.
But of course, we don’t guess. We do science!
So inc another couple hundred gold of respecs….

The only way i’ll go back to my loverly BM spec, is if it tops SV.
I like the fact that i’m not completely useless without my pet.
I agree Mytho, When I ran OS as BM and my pet died due to lava waves I remember going “Well I’m done”
This kind of flip-floppery is *so* freakin’ frustrating! I kinda hate respecs, so I’ll prolly stick with SV for a while…the casters and healers claim that the mana regen has been a sweet sweet treat, so I’ll consider it taking one for the team if BM does indeed top the charts again…

my healers and casters agree with the mana regen though its kinda amazing…
Keep in mind, effectiveness between the two specs (BM vs. SV) depends solely on the encounters you’re facing.
Obviously a pet-unfriendly encounter such as Saph, will wreak havoc to a BM Hunter’s DPS. Whilst the SV Hunter (or even MM) will shine from much higher PERSONAL dps.
I just can’t WAIT any longer for dual-speccing.
Believe me…its far too overdue, and will take a LOT of the conundrum out of which talent tree to choose for raiding.
This Hunter is more then likely going to stay SV for a bit…just to get a bit more experience with it, or at least until BM is proven higher DPS overall. But I doubt that will happen. I’m leaning more toward ‘balanced’.
