Brief recap: I specced to SV after testing showed it to be the highest dps hunter build. Went on a raid, and managed to squeak onto the top of the meters. Then discovered I was using only rank 1 of Explosive Shot.
Many people asked to see how the build was doing after using rank 4. Here’s the update.
Went into Naxx 25 tonight. Cleared the construct quarter (then stepped out to let some others get geared up on the easier wings). Overall result:
Pretty nice, I think. Not insane, but nice to still be able to make it to the top.
And then I went back after the easy wings were done to help the raid on 4 Horsement, Sapphiron, and Kel’Thuzad (the last two being firsts for the guild. Yay!)
Here’s a shot of the meter for just the Patchwerk fight, which is the perfect hunter boss:

I can barely pull 3k dps in 25 mans
Are you ridiculously higher on the meters than the other hunters in your raid because of gear or technique? I can see myself getting in to 25mans and being the little dude at the bottom of the chart :S
A littel of both Bandwarm, depending on the shot (rotating various people in and out). The BM hunter is probably geared just about as well as me. One of the SV hunters actually out-gears me. The others are *way* worse gear.
Do you think You could make a raid gear guide, that would be pretty helpful, at least for me : )
2 questions…
1)are you using macros during these raids
2)in an earlier post you said that the shot rotation should include putting 3 steady shots between the explosive shots. I tried that, which always delays explosive shot a little, unless rapid fire is up, and then I tried putting two steady shots instead of three and making sure that explosive shot fires as soon as it’s ready. When I do this on the boss dummy, my DPS is always higher when I decide not to delay explosive shot. Does that hold true for you or is your haste good enough to where you can put 3 steady shots in there without delaying explosive shot?
Would like to see this in a more in-depth breakdown, such as specific build via wowhead, shot rotation breakdown with recount and DPS recount results, some of us hunters are still striving for the top spot and looks like you got knowledge!
He has already made a Shot Rotation guide and posted his talent spec (although that might have changed) but even that is still easy to find by using the armory feature. Lazy players don’t pay dues.
Psst .. .Frost,
The BM hunter still has 3-4 things against him.
1) Thaddius doesn’t give a charge to pets.
2) As a nerfed BM was dropping traps on Gluth and letting the uber SV worry about the boss dispells.
3) wasnt in the raid for Patch
4) is a N00b
Regardless — it’s clear that the SV far outstrips BM spec atm.
All joking and flimsy excuses aside — I’d like to to do a straight comparison on a patchwork fight because this would be a reasonable indicator of the new state of the specs, given that pre patch Frost and Myr were pulling almost identical numbers, so post patch with Frost switching to SV their comparative numbers would be a fair indicator of the new order of the difference.
Myr: totally agree with you on Patch — though I think you were on patch the previous week (when I was using rank 1 explosive
) Hopefully you’ll be there this sat so we can get a good comparison!
And I have my own noob defense on Gluth — I was in Viper for at least half the fight — too focused on timing my tranqs until I noticed I wasn’t running out of mana. Did very poorly on the damage meters on that fight!
BM also has an advantage on Grob, since pet keeps doing full dps while you’re running out to drop the bomb. Loved that fight as BM.
But yeah, SV has advantage on Thaddius, and we did a lot of attempts on him.

is me..I get around 3k dps little under on dummys etc unbuffed…how do you do the crazy dps I have tried everything in my mind…and everything i can find..manually weaving…using any/all abilities…so frustrated..

I love ya’lls site! It’s so helpful, one of my buddies told me about it and I’ve been hooked ever since. And it’s nice to know I’m not the only one that gets so focused that I forget to switch back to hawk…lol!
