As we know, Blizz has been talking about reworking classes in patch 3.1, which is when the new raid dungeon comes out. Dunno when, but blue posts suggest it will certainly be after Blizzcon.
The biggest happy in this post was this:
Consumable ammunition has been removed from the game. Arrows and bullets no longer stack, but are not consumed. Ranged attack speed bonus gained from quivers and ammo bags will be preserved in a different capacity.
I cannot believe it took them this long to implement this. I mean, OMFG. Having to pay money for every single attack that you make? They even removed the consumable element from thrown weapons ages ago. About time.
I’m hopeful that what this will mean is we’ll get a wider variety of ammo that is good in different situations. So we might have fire ammo, or ice ammo, or armor piercing ammo, etc. Based on the fight type, we’d swap over to a different kind of ammo. Kinda like rogues choosing their poisons, only way better because rogues are creepy and we hate them, and we suspect that Blizzard does too.
Also note that this will likely mean that ammo is another slot that we’ll have to get from boss drops. I’m okay with that.
We also have some comments about BM hunters getting an extra tier of pet talents specifically for dps boostage. I suspect this will be coupled with a general lowering of exotic pets base dps (which is now quite higher than normal pets).
Blizz has said before that they really don’t want BM hunter to feel like they have to take an exotic pet — and this is a good way to even the field a bit. Instead of the exotic ferocity pets getting the big damage boosts, instead all BM pets will have access to the big damage talents.
Speaking of talents, these two lines were particularly interesting:
- Piercing Shots – this talent has been changed. Your Aimed, Steady and Chimera Shots cause the target to bleed for 10/20/30% of damage dealt for 8 sec.
- Sniper Training – this talent has been changed. After standing still for 6 sec, you gain a 2/4/6% damage bonus to Steady, Aimed and Explosive Shot.
Piercing shots — awesome. That talent sucks now, this will make it very interesting, in an un-cc-able way.
Sniper Training…. ouch. That kinda looks like a nerf with interesting frosting. I mean, Blizz loves complicated boss fights where you have to move around constantly. 6% damage to everything from range is way better than this one. Way better.
But overall we here at the WHU are interested and frankly a bit excited to see what new changes are in store for us. After all, when they finally smacked BM off it’s pedastal, we were delighted to be able to play a justifiable SV build, and enjoy it a lot. Perhaps 3.1 will bring more delight.

Throwing weapons still have a consumable aspect in their durability. Each time you throw one a point is lost. Granted it was still cheaper than what Hunters had to pay for their ammo but I hope this is not the path they are going to take with it. I must admit, having different types of ammo does sound cool and I hope it does happen! Maybe they could have statted ammo!
But…not spending gold with every shot? Not losing a bag space? How will you pay your dues now?!
Lastly, where are you seeing hints of 3.1 being after BlizzCon? I don’t pay much attention to it but isn’t BlizzCon always in October? That’s a pretty long time for no new raiding content! Clan might have a slew of well geared alts by then…
The hint of blizzcon was that they kept talking about reworking hunter mechanics in 3.1, with a couple hints that they were going to “look at ammo”. Then this post:
“Yes, your role will not change. We have some long-term plans for mechanics but it is way too early to talk about them. Blizzcon maybe”
It’s possible this is referring to something completely different than the 3.1 changes…. but 3.1 sounds most likely.
How old is that 2nd quote? I’d be surprised they’d wait that long to roll out new content. Seems more likely you are quoting something that was before the previous blizzcon.
I’m not so sure that PS is that much of a dps improver…

let’s say for example your SS hits for 1000 (I like round numbers)and you’re maxed on PS:
Your PS would be 300 dmg over 8 seconds or 37.5 dps
Also, if the rotation is Chimera, AS, SS, SS and you’re max on haste, the maximum ticks the PS would be in effect is 1 tick, since you’re firing SS every 1.5

Granted, we don’t know the specifics, like if it sticks for 8 seconds and can’t be overwritten, in which case, we’d have to use other shots instead of SS/Aimed and maximize damage with Chimera…that could get a little complicated though, since it affects so many shot types.
I’d like to see a little more bang for my points that far down in the tree…

Looking good. Like that blizz change the specs so they can hold us active with testing and and shooting at dummies. wouldn’t be very interesting to push the same button week after week :p And the maommuth cutters costing me alot, so this is good. Hope they make the arrows a little hard to get. When i red the part about of the fire, frost rct arrows, it kinda reminded me of zelda ocarina of time. where you had different times like fire and frost arrows to use with your bow
