We all play Wow, and as a result we surely have all encountered people who are monumentally stupid. We’ve also seen people do monumentally stupid things. It is my great hope that you can do the later without being the former. What I’m trying to say is I got hit hard with the stupid bat.
So I spent a good chunk of last week on the target dummys in Ironforge respeccing and respeccing and measuring the value of different specs. I got to try out Survival for the first time ever, and was pleased to find it had the best dps because I really do think survival deserves it’s moment in the sun. I took this build to a 25-man raid and this was the overall results:
Obviously I was happy with this. Hunters got a huge nerf and I still managed to top the damage meters.
Then the other day I made a very embarrassing discovery. It turns out that there are actually 4 ranks of Explosive Shot… not just the first rank that I was using!
I had never been survival before, so I had never trained the new ranks, so they didn’t auto-train. And I didn’t visit the trainer.
So yeah. I totally stepped in a big sticky pile of stupid. On the bright side though, I’m excited to see where my dps ends up when I’m not gimping myself by downcasting!

I read a post somewhere today, where the poster was telling Newly SV hunters to make sure they did this (may have been on BRK’s forums).
I literally did a /forehead slap at work….
I had tried the SV spec after BM got nerfed, saw that my DPS was about the same, so specced back to BM. Now….gonna have to get back to SV, see how much of a difference it makes.
Luckily you have feign death!

Thank you for this article! I respecced SV last night and ran Gundrak to get a feel for the rotation for tonight’s 25-Naxx…. DPS was about the same as BM, with RANK 1.
Hoping for a ton more with Rank 4 tonight.
For your punishment you must now always use rank 1 Explosive Shot … forever.

Hah frost, you know by making this public we can never let you forget it.
Well, thanks for sharing so I didn’t make the same mistake when I rebuilt my BM to SV this week
