isPermaLink="false">http://www.warcrafthuntersunion.com/?p=817#comment-18981

Sorry to revive this, i'll explain the predicament i'm in...
one of my friend played a hunter, he's now 80 with 5k GS and he does his whole 10k dps in AOE and 6k dps in icecrown. the thing he said to me just didn't get in, though after reading this thread i think i know where we disagreed. he says in his tabs, he's 80% crit. and he's trying to get higher but all this without capping hit rating, without trying to gain any attack power, i think he's in the 4k
we got off, was that i was swearing there was a crit cap, and he said you're wrong there isn't not on all site i've looked at. thus i started looking here and now i understand what i was reading, but all the calculations i've seen here leads me to think that any class should simply crit like bitches because then they wouldn't need hit rating at all. what i mean here is that all of you seems to simply have forgotten about the hit table. i understand the whole do not care about dodge/parry/block but that still doesn'T empty the table entirely. the basic 5% miss chance going up to 8% against raid bosses. is still there, so basically even if you attain the 104% it would go down by minimum 8% because of your 0 hit rating. thats what i tryed to tell him, but he wouldn'T listen and told me he had next to 0 hit rating and would never miss anyway because of his high crit. now i'm totally lost, aside from the fact he always was a very lucky guy, i dont think he can avoid the hit rating by just getting his crit higher like he claims.
now i am quite sure that we got this argument bvecause our crit "CAP" definition is totally different. so heres what i always thought about it. CAP is the point adding more of that stat is useless because of diminishing returns (something that you all forgot to mention here) becoming too great. exemple of 20 agility gem that in the end doesn't give you much more then 0.04% crit because of diminishing returns... now he's survival and i understand survival has a talent that boost agility thus reducing the diminishing returns on their own. so i understand that for survival. but the problem, i'm beast mastery and i like it ! i dont have those and my agility wont go as high as him, thus my crit will never as high as he is.
nows where i want answers for...
is crit really not having a cap when you consider the things blizzard did tell us to begin with, i mean they confirmed this a long time (TBC times exactly.) the miss chances are there reguardless of how much you see it, thus hit rating is a must, yet you're all speaking as if it didn't matter because you got big fucking crits. so i'm lost about this... also, the whole diminishing returns on agility and crits and basically all rating stats is what makes me believe that blizzard did intend on putting a cap, i admit a soft one but still a cap on things.
i want to understand... because right now all i understand is... hit rating is useless for hunters where i been hearing the inverse for years !
thanks for readina nd answering if you decide to do and i'm sorry about the wall of text, i am like that... 8)

Sorry to revive this, i’ll explain the predicament i’m in…<br

I looked at my character page while the Iron Dwarf proc was active (700 crit strike) while in a 10 man Uld (in combat). I was at ~106% crit... I'm a Survival Hunter stacking Agility. I just thought it was pretty sweet to have more than enough crit to crit every shot against raid mobs.

I Google’d this because I got H DBW today in ICC. However the 104.8% Crit Cap is only for Autoshot, since as said before Autoshot doesn't benefit from any talents that increases Critical Strike Chance. That is the Hard Cap then. There are several soft caps, but the one there is no point passing is at the point where you get 104.8% Crit with procs+fully raid buffed. Myself I get around 25% Crit through Master Tactician and being fully raid buffed, so for me the absolute softcap is at 79.7% Crit unbuffed. Then as said before some of the other Special Attacks recieve extra Crit from talents. I am playing as Survival and I am Crit Capped on Kill Shot when I am fully raid buffed and have Master Tactician Proc. (65.23% Crit unbuffed and around 80% Crit fully raid buffed without procs) Since Explosive Shot has 7% Crit lower than Kill Shot from talents I would need around 7% more PURE Crit (its not pure if I get more Crit through Agility since that is increased through raid buffs)
And for Diaulos about blocked crits/hits. When you are capped on Hit, the mob still has a chance to block your attack, but with Cataclysm changes they can't Block a whole attack only a part of it so won't matter then.

People saying there isn’t a Crit Cap are incorrect. I was already doing fine dps/damage as i use soft cap in Arp. But today after going 4set T10 (decided to leave the T9 2 set proc) i saw on dummy that i started to have crit (block) and hit(block) shots.
I have 59%crit self buffed and 8,6%HR and also one wasted talent point at HR talent.
How can this be? It happened today after i equiped all new gear.
this is my chars armory link: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Burning+Blade&cn=Diaulos
if anyone knows how can i have blocked crits and hits with so high crit and overcaped hit is welcome to enlighten me

ok guys here goes, I am a MM hunter and after a gear improvement week i reached 5751 Gearscore. Multi-shot basically does the same damage as aimed, but aimed is an instant shot and can be cast on the run -- which is the big advantage of including it (it's also less mana than multi).
As for how much hit.... um, the hit cap is 8%. So as long as you're at the 8% hit cap, you could in *theory* reach 100% crit; however, the gear doesn't exist to really let you do that now.

Actually, Survival hunters often do use aimed shot in their rotations (though it’s not required).
