So taming a pet never seemed like a really big deal before. If I wanted to learn some new abilities or pick up a new pet for some specific use, I just popped over to the stablemaster, stabled my current pet, and flew out to grab a new one. Never really took up much time.

But it’s a different story when your goal is to tame every ferocity pet.

So I spent several hours last night stationed in Ironforge with pockets full of pet food taming pet after ferocity pet. Each one I brought over to the target dummies and then measured their dps over three two-minute bouts with the dummy.

Then dismiss, fly out, and grab the next one. Some were quick, whereas some – like the devilsaur – took a half hour round trip to pick up.

I’ve gotten through 7 of the 11 ferocity pets (and one of those I haven’t got isn’t available until wrath, and is a horrible rare spawn to boot). I hope to grab the last three tonight so tomorrow I should have definitive results, post 3.0.3 patch changes.

So far the big surprise is the cat, which even managed to out-damage the devilsaur! I actually tried that experiment many times, ’cause I didn’t believe the meakly cat special attack could add up to more damage than the dino stacking damage, but in fact it is so. The big question in my mind is the corehound with its newly buffed lava breath.

As an aside I love the target dummies, but they just make me hate other people all the more. Why on earth would a lvl 70 mage need to spend two hours attacking a lvl 60 target dummy??? And why do so many frickin’ 70 warriors attack them? The warriors were the worst, ’cause they’d apply sunder armor which would mess up the dps results of the pet and I’d have to switch dummies, or wait for them to finish.

Worst of all were the elf warriors — go to your own damn fruity city and mess up someone else’s science damnit!

Anyhow, look for the ferocity pet dps rankings tomorrow!

hey frost, love the site and all, but have one question, will you have a “cheat sheet” pet build for cunning pets anytime soon? i’ve finally dual speced (for sh**s and giggles) and have gone back down the BM tree allowing me to use my chimera exotic, been so long since i used him i don’t remember how well he did things, lol.

  3. Frostheim says:

Duuk: probably not. The real purpose of a cunning pet is pvp, and I don’t do enough pvp to be an expert at it. If you want to dps you want a ferocity pet. If you want to solo or tank, you want a tenacity pet.

will some one please tell me how to purchase additional pet slots so I can get more pets? can’t find it at the stable master, in my pets window, or the stable we carry with us…help plz

  5. Arthemystia says:

Unless it has changed, you should be able to buy them at the Stable Master when you have the actual stable tab pulled up, kinda like buying new bank slots.

Remember you can only have 5 pets (and 4 stable slots) at any one time. This posts title might seem misleading, but Frost wasn’t keeping all 7.

  6. Dourne says:

Ghostcrawler must have read this post, Frost! Now you can test to the bottom of your hearts desire with the Stable of Infinity (or at least it feels like it) and Five-on-the-Fly!

Oh, and in only a year! Things are a changing with such rapid response from developers!
